The bars of Alaska are places of lawlessness, notoriety, fellowship, sanctuary and community as well as a good place to get a beer. Used as meeting places, banks, churches, community halls, employment centers and homes, bars have and do fill functions that are sometimes lacking in Alaskan towns.

Author Doug Vandegraft will give a walking tour of some of Kodiak’s most notorious bars, both past and present. Starting at the Baranov Museum at 7pm, it will travel through downtown, visiting sites of former notorious bars and stopping in at those that remain.
