Our Parish Mission Statement We are a welcoming Catholic Christian community alive in the faith! Through Baptism, we are called to become the heart, the hands and the voice of Jesus. We do this through Eucharist, liturgical celebrations, prayer, and nurturing parish ministries, “That in all things God may be glorified.” (Rule of St. Benedict)

To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven …

… a time to be born …

FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Go and Do Likewise

Miss Collins, the dean of students at Olympic High School, was past the point of scolding Matt, though she liked him very much. "Four detentions in two weeks are too many." Still Matt wouldn't tell. It was only after Miss Collins went on a morning neighborhood patrol that she found out the real reason for Matt's tardiness. Thump, thump, thump, came the wheelchair down the stairs. It was Matt, steadying Shawnetta as he helped lower her down the stairs and then push her to the corner bus stop.

"She's a girl in my parish youth group," Matt explained to Miss Collins.

There are many ways to describe Matt's actions--a random act of kindness, making a difference one person at a time. Jesus would understand. When the lawyer correctly identified the good Samaritan as the one who had treated the injured man with compassion, Jesus said simply, "Go and do likewise" (Luke 10:37).

ANY GIFT SHOP SUGGESTIONS?

As we continue the process of “re-envisioning” a new and improved Christ Corner Gift Shop, we want to give our parish family the opportunity to provide ideas and suggestions regarding the types of merchandise we will be ordering. Remember, we want our store to reflect the parish’s mission of evangelization and to support the efforts of our ministries however we can. That means that what we sell should have at least some spiritual connotation, and also, if it’s something you can purchase at Walmart or Kohl’s, it’s probably not suitable for our store.

There are two ways to submit any suggestions you have: 1) You can leave a voicemail at 973-538-1358, ext. 123; or 2) You can send an e-mail to [email protected].

We look forward to hearing from you!

A MESSAGE FROM FR. PADDY

Dear Parish Family,

I need your help! We have a wonderful parishioner couple who are experiencing financial difficulty and are urgently seeking housing. They would welcome an opportunity to rent modest

accommodations (a finished basement, a room and bathroom, etc.) as long as it is within drivable distance to our church. The couple both work during the day, are middle- aged and are in good health. They are faith-filled, loving people and it would be a great blessing if we could help them through this rough patch in their lives.

If you or someone you know is able to offer a rental opportunity to these good people, please give me a call at 973-538-1358, ext. 101, or send an email to [email protected].

God bless you!

Fr. Paddy

PAUSE FOR PRAYER

Lord, I lift up to you all the people so busy they don't know what to do next...

And I lift up to you all the folks so bored they think they’re gonna go crazy…

I lift up to you all the unemployed who wait for a job to support them…

I lift up to you all the suffering and sick who beg for an end to their pain…

I lift up to you all the folks in deep sadness who yearn for the healing of grief...

I lift up to you all who stand in harm's way for the sake of our freedom and peace...

I lift up to you all the folks so long hurting they doubt they'll ever find peace...

I lift up to you the depressed and despairing who hunger for promise and hope…

I lift up to you the abused and mistreated who wait for the nightmare to end…

I lift up to you all who search for more faith, who thirst for belief and conviction…

I lift up to you the poor and the hungry who wait for a place at our tables...

I lift up to you the forgotten and lonely who long for companions and friends...

I lift up to you the hooked and addicted who work their recovery a day at a time…

I lift up to you all the folks who are lost, who fear they’ll never be found...

I lift up to you all who've suffered my faults and I pray they'll pardon my sins...

I lift up to you all the people I've hurt and I pray you forgive what I've done...

I lift up to you myself and my needs and pray for your blessing of mercy...

I lift up to you those with no help at hand: hear my prayer and come to their aid...

I lift up to you all people in need and I pray you'll deliver us all...

Amen. (A Concord Pastor Comments)

FOUR STEPS TO EXPERIENCING ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL MARRIAGE-BUILDERS OF ALL TIME

“A great marriage is the union of two forgivers.” – Ruth Bell Graham

When you forgive your spouse, you are ultimately saying to them, “I choose to give up the right to punish you for how you have hurt me.” When we forgive another person, it doesn’t mean we forget. And it doesn’t brush it away and pretend that it didn’t happen.

Forgiveness says, “I refuse to dwell on my anger and hurt.” It is an essential step to healing and restoring oneness. Christ’s death on the cross—His forgiveness—restored our relationship to God. Trust that God can use your forgiveness to restore your relationship and change you both for the better. Here are 4 steps that will help you express and experience forgiveness:

Do it privately: Go to God in prayer and say, “God, I forgive _________ for hurting me. I choose to give up the right to punish __________.”

Do it publicly and specifically: Go to the person and be specific, “I forgive you for ________.”

Do it graciously: Keep the bigger goal in mind, which is restoring your relationship and rebuilding trust. That means giving up your right to punish!

Do it generously: Acknowledge your own failings to maintain balance; not one of us is perfect! And once you’ve forgiven, refuse to bring up the matter again in a hurtful way.

Forgiveness gives us the opportunity to re-establish our relationship and make things right with our spouse or a family member. It removes the issue that creates isolation in a marriage and empowers us to grow in oneness in our marriage.

A MESSAGE FROM JOE DUFFY, PRESIDENT OF CATHOLIC CHARITIES

I have known and worked with many of you for the past 19 years. I have been privileged to serve as your President of Catholic Charities. For me my work here has been much more than a job. It has been a vocation. Much has been accomplished during these

years and much has been given to others. And for me I can tell you I have received so much more than I have given.

Our parishes have been such an important part of our ministry at Catholic Charities. You have helped us in so many ways, sometimes connecting us to someone in need; often providing us resources such as food, toiletries, coats, gifts at Christmas, and boots on the ground in the form of volunteers; support for the Bishop’s Annual Appeal and very recently for Partners In Faith; publicizing our car donation program, hosting our clothes donation boxes, and in many cases, direct cash donations. And very importantly, I appreciate the many times I have heard from so many of you that you are praying for us.

I will retire from Catholic Charities as of June 30. True to form, I cannot close my comments without one more ask. Please keep Catholic Charities and its leadership in your prayers, and please say a prayer for me for a productive and healthy retirement.

Blessings, Joe Duffy
