A longstanding reputation for doing our very best for each individual girl

I am delighted to welcome you to this outstanding school. Notting Hill and Ealing has a longstanding reputation for doing its very best for each individual girl, by underpinning an exciting and ambitious academic programme with excellent pastoral care and a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

Visitors will soon be aware of the deep seated ethos of mutual respect amongst the girls and between girls and staff. This is a friendly school; girls are confi dent and happy but also loyal, sensible and thoughtful in their relationships with others. I am continually struck by their curiosity, wit and warmth as well as by their openness and well placed pride in their considerable achievements.

I do hope you and your daughter will come to one of our Open Events so that you can meet our staff and girls and experience this for yourselves. In the meantime, this prospectus, and the school website will give you information about the curriculum and the activities which go on in school, as well as a chance to read the latest newsletter. You will see that, throughout the school, girls are encouraged to try out new things and have many opportunities to develop their talents.

I know very well the mixture of excitement, anxiety, occasional bewilderment and pure joy involved in watching a daughter grow from an inquisitive little girl to a warm, confi dent and well educated young woman, ready to take her place in society. At Notting Hill and Ealing High School staff, governors, parents and pupils all support each other and work together to give your daughter the very best start along that road.

Our academic record is outstanding and excellent results are achieved alongside a genuine love of learning.

We encourage girls to pursue the subjects that excite them, to discover their passions, discuss, debate and think for themselves. Our teachers are committed to developing each girl’s abilities and to fostering independent learning and the confi dence to rise to new intellectual challenges.

Our curriculum offers both breadth and depth at every level, always meeting the challenge of preparing girls for the next stage in their education. It also makes the most of the wealth of opportunities available in London, with frequent visits to galleries and museums. Trips further afi eld in the UK and abroad bring languages and subjects such as geography, history or art to life.

Tolerance and mutual respect are nurtured and you can be yourself

We put pastoral care and the wellbeing of each girl at the centre of everything we do. We want your daughter to be feel happy and confi dent; ready to learn and take advantage of all life offers; comfortable with herself and tolerant and supportive of others.

In this environment learning in its widest sense can fl ourish resulting in girls who are outstandingly academically successful, well-grounded, confi dent and independent. By the time they move on to university they are well-educated young women with a wide range of interests and life skills. They are confi dent of their own worth, prepared for independent lives and ready to make a positive contribution to society.

At NHEHS there is always something going on. A rich menu of opportunity is offered to everyone through music, drama, sport and art. There are choirs, orchestras and ensembles. Girls can perform in a play, help backstage or represent the school in their chosen sport. They organise special events which raise funds for charities, enjoy the challenges of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and involve themselves in an extraordinary number of clubs and activities. Many of these are run by our sixth form girls who also organise sports teams, act as subject mentors and ‘big sisters’, organise the School Council and House system and elect the Head Girl Team. Girls and staff alike look forward to the special events and NHEHS traditions, from the exuberant House Shout to the moving candlelit Christmas carol service, which enliven the school calendar and bring everyone together.
