The UK education systemIn the UK, students normally take A levels before starting their Bachelors (or undergraduate) degree, which usually lasts 3 or 4 years. Our Foundation Certificate and International Year One courses are also a recognised qualification for entry to a Bachelors degree, and are specially designed for international students.

Some university graduates then study a Masters (or postgraduate) degree, which usually lasts 1 year. Our Pre-Master’s courses bridge the gap between your existing university credit and the level needed for entry to a postgraduate degree.

Jitimiebi Sanami is a Nigerian student who studied a Foundation Certificate at NTIC and progressed to LLB (Hons) Law at NTU. Hear about her experiences.

When I saw the prospectus for Nottingham Trent University (NTU), it just looked so fun.

I saw the accommodation and facilities and when I came here the staff were lovely. They told us about the College and everything we were supposed to do and just made it very easy for us.

Studying here has really prepared me for university. The teachers are amazing and have taught us about referencing and paraphrasing, which will really help me during my degree. The College also organises events for us, such as the Easter party, which was really amazing.

They have talent shows – we dance, eat lots of food and have a good time. I’ve made lots of friends since I’ve been here too.

The accommodation is amazing, and I’ve dicovered a lot about other countries and cultures. You learn to

adapt. It’s a really nice community here.

When I go back to my home country, I want to be a lawyer. I want to help fight crime, and promote justice and equality. One of my dreams is to become the

president, and studying law can help me with that dream. I have a vision for my country and my future, and NTU will help me achieve my dream.
