A specially interesting chapter is the one which deals with tuberculosis. It is there stated that before I890 tuberculosis was very rarely diagnosed in dogs at the AHort School, but in that year an examination more likely to lead to detection of cases was begun, with the result that in less than I8 months 40 advanced cases of the disease were met with. The excellent description of the symptoms and lesions given by the authors ought to serve to diminish the number of cases that escape detection.

Les Maladies du Mouton. Par G. Moussu, Professeur a l'Ecole Veterinaire d'AHort. Paris: Vigot Freres, I923. Price 20 fro

In the Preface of this work the author points out the serious losses that often occur in sheep from diseases that are preventable or curable and the consequent importance of making breeders and shepherds better acquainted with the symptoms, in order that, either directly or with the assistance of a veterinary surgeon, the proper preventive or curative treatment may be put into operation at the earliest possible moment. It is surprising to learn that the ovine population in France is declining, and in fact has fallen from 30,000,000 in I875 to 9,500,000 in I9I8.

The work runs to 332 pages, and it includes I28 figures in the text and eight coloured plates. The first 50 pages are devoted to diseases of lambs and the remainder to diseases of adult sheep. Each disease is dealt with in respect of etiology, lesions, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. It is unfortunate that in the article dealing with Tremblante, or Prurigo lombaire, the English synonym of that disease is given as louping-ill, and that throughout the article the author has confounded the diseases termed respectively lou ping-ill and scrapey.

Students will certainly find the work a useful introduction to the study of diseases of the sheep.

The earlier parts of this work were reviewed and commended in the previous volume of this Journal (p. I33). The thirteenth fasciculus has been reached, so that more than half of the work has now been published. The merit of the earlier parts is well maintained. Several of the recent numbers have been particularly interesting on account of the descriptions and illustrations of breeds of cattle and other farm animals.
