Resume Truths 1

The Resume styles change like fashions

Chronological resumes are preferred over functional resumes

Quantify show how you made money, saved money and & saved time

Effective resumes are based accomplishments & biggest impacts

Hiring Managers want to see what problems you have solved & what your role was & the result, Use your last review/focal for ideas.

Resume Truths 2

A roster of your job duties/responsibilities is out

One page resumes are for new college grads Page Length –1-2 pages for a junior candidate s–3-4 pages for a senior candidates

Use Resume verbs that create marketing hooks are effective (see slide coming up)

Analyze resumes on Craigslist & Monster samples etc…how does your resume compare?

The New Resume 1

What can you offer? What problems can you solve? Hiring is about solving problems

Understand what makes your work and abilities valuable to companies in your field

Don't just think about your skills. Think about how you have used your skills to help an employer succeed and be more profitable

The New Resume 2

Clearly and succinctly communicate your achievements. Avoid vague language that doesn't precisely explain a skill or an accomplishment.

Consider whether a long ago job best supports your qualification for a job you're after today. Use Resume verbs that create marketing hooks are effective (slide)

Avoid – Spelling, grammatical errors, incorrect dates, using headers & footers, gaps in history etc.

Do not include any information that doesn't contribute--or detracts from your overall selling message.

Choose the right keywords: Find words and phrases that describe what the company is looking for and use them

Use keywords wisely: Some resumes have a keyword section that simply lists keywords for the ATS System to pick up. It is best to simply use keywords smartly throughout your resume. A paper tiger resume will never get anywhere

• Streamlined team’s development process by 10% by bridging communication between team worldwide offices in Germany and Japan.

1. Go in Person connect with a recruiter that you can call weekly.

2. Be flexible contracts job often get converted into a fulltime job. Some agencies even have benefits.

Make A Plan

A serious job search requires you to cold-contact 50-100 people with the power to hire you. That’s usually not the human resources person. Make your goal to answer 25 on-target ads and to contact 20 employers who are not advertising a job opening.

Indeed.com, simplyhired.com, and jobster.com each cover somewhat different territory, so it’s worth using each of them weekly until you’re hired. America’s largest employer: the federal government, visit www.usajobs.gov.

Has anyone used resumedispatcher.com? This service sends you resume out to hundreds of recruiters.

Only Apply to Jobs that you are qualified….Match at least 80% of the job spec.
