O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made. I see the stars I hear the rolling thunder, Thy pow'r thru' out the universe displayed.

(Chorus) Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee, "How great Thou art! How great Thou art!" Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee, "How great Thou art! How great Thou art! How great Thou art! "

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in. That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin. (chorus)

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart. Then I shall bow in humble adoration and there proclaim, “My God how great Thou art!” (chorus)

Good News for Central Asia

Central Asia - which consists of several “...stan” countries, including the former Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan - is a far-off, forgotten corner of the world to most Westerners. But God has not forgotten the people of Central Asia. Since the early 90s, when the area opened to the West, missionaries have been sharing the Good News about Jesus with the people of Central Asia. Today, thousands of Central Asians are following Jesus, but the cost can be high. Many Christians of Muslim background face rejection from their families, while in sever-al countries, the government actively persecutes Christians. Please pray that God will strengthen and protect the Christians in Central Asia and that they would be bold in sharing the love of Jesus with their friends, families and neighbors so that all people will have an opportunity to hear the Gospel.

MISSIONS FEATURE

Responding to God’s Call with Gratitude and Generous Giving!

Today is COMMITMENT SUNDAY: “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it,” Ps 24:1

It all belongs to God, and He asks that we return a portion of it for His kingdom. We need your generous response to make God’s vision, through VPC, a reality! Please take the next step up in your financial commitment to the church with a generous pledge to support the ministries and missions

budget –the 2008 Unified Budget. Prayerfully consider what level of giving best reflects your gratitude for all God has entrusted to you, and then complete a pledge card (found in the friendship

pads, Welcome Table and on the information wall in the gathering space) to let the church know your intentions. We will have a special offering of these pledge commitments during each of today’s

worship services.

The 2007 Budget needs your support.

We are currently $494,151 or 17.5 percent behind budget in our congregational giving. At this year-end time of Thanksgiving and Christmas God’s people at VPC have historically responded to the

welfare of the church with their generous giving. Please prayerfully consider what God is asking of you to help close this gap.

CARE & SUPPORT

New Stephen Ministers to Be Trained: Since beginning Stephen Ministry here at VPC ten years ago, we have seen the great value of lay caring ministry. Another training class for Stephen Ministers will begin in January. Please seriously consider whether God is calling you to use your gifts and talents as a Stephen Minister. Contact [email protected] for more information.

Christian Cancer Companions was formed a few years ago by members of VPC who were all cancer survivors. These survivors felt called to outreach to individuals newly diagnosed with cancer, letting them know there were people who had been through what they were facing. If you know of a friend or loved one who would benefit from this support, feel free to invite them. If you have any questions please contact Rita Lockwood for more information, 703.573.6168.

Do you have a heart for marriage? We are seeking to create a new Marriage Ministry Team at VPC to help plan and support programs for married couples (all ages and stages). Please contact Julie Knight at [email protected] or 703.691.3406 if you would like to serve in this exciting new ministry area!

VPC’s Call and Care Ministry has a big mission: To extend God’s love to our entire congregation. This is being done by phoning the VPC community twice a year to say, “Hello! How are you?” There are 150 families still waiting to be placed on Call Lists. Will you help us? We’ll supply you with a script, guidelines, and a list of 10 families to call. Contact Lisa Baltzer, 703.560.9398, [email protected].

Parents of College Students! Would your son or daughter like a VPC care package? If so, we need to know where to send them! Please e-mail your student’s name, college address and e-mail to [email protected] so we can get them on our list.

Do you know a child or family living with a food allergy? The Food Allergy Support Group of Northern Virginia helps families navigate the lifestyle challenges that food allergies present. The next meeting will be held at 7:30 pm, Nov 14 at VPC. We will be discussing holiday cooking and social events. For more information, email [email protected]. Meetings are free and open to the public.

Coping with the Holidays after the Loss of a Loved One: After a loved one has died, the holidays can be painful reminders of loss. We can take steps, however, to bring new meaning to this time of year. Please come tonight, 6 pm, in Rooms 203-204. Judy Taibl from Haven of Northern Virginia will share her insights and thoughts to help during these times. No need to call ahead of time; however, if you have any questions, please call Inajo Cox (703.938.4779). Haven of Northern Virginia was started by Jeanne Arcuni, a former member of VPC.
