Eduardo earned his Agricultural Engineeringdegree-major in Animal Science from theInstituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superioresde Monterrey, Mexico. He completed his Ph.D. innutrition and reproduction interactions under thesupervision of Frank Aherne and GeorgeFoxcroft after which he was the feed millnutritionist with Calmar Feed Mill Ltd. in Alberta.

From 1994-2003 Eduardo managed the ExternalResearch Services at Prairie Swine Centre Inc.and In 2004 joined Alberta Agriculture and RuralDevelopment as Research Scientist. He iscurrently Adjunct Professor in the Dept. ofAgricultural, Food & Nutritional Science,University of Alberta.

Sue graduated with a B.Sc in 1980 from theUniversity of Guelph and a DVM from the OntarioVeterinary College in 1984. She worked in amixed practice for 3 years, spent the next threewith the Ontario Government working on a porkindustry initiative program and then left again forprivate practice. She began her solo swineconsultancy practice in 1990. Although practicekeeps her busy in Ontario, she has travelledextensively "doing pig things" - to countriesincluding China, Africa, Malaysia, Phillipines,Jamaica and Estonia.

She obtained her Diplomate status in SwineHealth and Production in 2005 and is currentlyenrolled part time in a Masters in Public Healthat the University of Guelph.

Laurie Connor is a Professor and current Headof the Department of Animal Science at theUniversity of Manitoba (U of M) where she hasover 20 years experience teaching andconducting research in areas of livestockreproduction, animal-environment interactions,welfare and management relative to pig housingconcepts. She is also Director of the Swine Unit(part of the National Centre for Livestock and theEnvironment) located at the Glenlea ResearchStation Farm, U of M. These facilities provideopportunities for education/outreach andinvestigating conventional and alternative porkproduction strategies as well as theirenvironmental and economic impact.

Her recent and current research includes:evaluating large commercial group housingsystems in terms of sow productivity and welfare.

Mark Chambers immigrated to Canada in 1995and started with Sunterra farms at their Nucleusherd. He came from England with 6 yearsexperience in swine production.

Over the last 15 years he has moved up throughthe company managing various barns includingthe Nucleus he started at.

Mark is now the Canadian Production Manger forSunterra, looking after production from 13,000sows between Alberta & Ontario. Marksresponsibilities include the production side,budgeting & staffing including spending a lot oftime on the foreign worker program.

Matheus Costa obtained his veterinary medicinedegree from the Federal University of MinasGerais, Brazil, in 2011. During his studies, hejoined Dr. Oliveira's team at the University ofMinnesota to investigate the emergence ofcellulitis among commercial turkey flocks. Duringthis period, he furthered his expertise onmolecular epidemiology and diagnostics. Afterreturning to Brazil, Matheus was recruited by theAquatic Animal Diseases Laboratory at UFMG toinvestigate outbreaks of multiple antibioticresistant strains of Aeromonas in fish farms.

Upon attaining his Vet degree, Matheus joinedDr. Harding and Dr. Hill at the University ofSaskatchewan, contributing to understanding there-emergence of Brachyspira in the Canadianswine herd.

Tyler Fulton is the Director of Risk Managementfor H@MS Marketing Services and isOwner/Operator of a 500 head beef cow/calfoperation in Birtle, Manitoba, Canada. Tyler hasworked with H@MS since 2001, where hemanages the forward contracting and feedmerchandizing activities.

In this role, he provides market analysis anddevelops strategies to aid hog producers inmanaging their price risk.

Steve Meyer is founder and president of ParagonEconomics, a consulting firm working primarily inlivestock and meat marketing that he founded in2002. He has worked in some aspect of livestockand meat marketing for over 25 years. His clientsinclude the National Pork Board, National PorkProducers Council, Chicago Mercantile Exchangeand National Hog Farmer magazine. In addition,Dr. Meyer is a frequent guest speaker for manypork- and livestock-related companies andorganizations. He is perhaps best known as thelead author of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange'sDaily Livestock Report.

His professional career includes positions insales, sales management, business developmentand academia. From 1993 - 2002 he served asDirector of Economics for the National PorkProducers Council and National Pork Board.

Harold Gonyou comes from a mixed family-farmin southern Ontario where he learned first-handabout agriculture and the handling and treatmentof animals. Graduating from the University ofGuelph with his BSc, he then pursued an MSc atthe University of Alberta and graduated with aPhD from the University of Saskatchewan (U ofS). His professional career includes Professor inthe Animal Sciences Department, University ofIllinois, Research Scientist at Prairie SwineCentre and Adjunct Professor at the U of S.

Harold's focus on the practical needs of animalsin relation to the needs and capabilities of thefarm business has resulted in significantprogress in understanding the pig, its welfareand relationship to its surroundings.

John Patience is a professor in the Departmentof Animal Sciences at Iowa State University,having joined the faculty in 2008. Prior to this,he was President and C.E.O. of the Prairie SwineCentre, a non-profit research and technologytransfer company located in Saskatoon, Canada.

John is responsible for research in applied swinenutrition and as such, undertakes studies onenergy metabolism, ingredient evaluation andgeneral wean-to-finish feeding and management.He also has responsibilities in extension,providing service to pork producers across Iowaas well as the U.S. generally.

Florian Possberg has specialized in hog produc-tion since 1975. He started by building a 60 sowoperation near Humboldt, SK that grew intoPossberg Pork Farms with 1200 sows. In 1995,he started Big Sky Farms where he was CEOuntil 2008. His family started Polar Pork FarmsLtd in 2009 and have 5400 sows.

Florian is a director of Sask Pork, Canadian PorkCouncil and NFAHW Council.

He currently chairs the Canadian Swine HealthBoard and Pig Code Review Committee.

Miranda Smit was born and raised in TheNetherlands. She did her undergraduate degreein Animal Science at the Wageningen Universityand as part of her M.Sc. she received double-degrees from both Wageningen University inThe Netherlands, and ESA Purpan School inFrance. She then came to the University of Alberta(U of A) to work with Dr. George Foxcroft and aftergraduating returned to the U of A Swine Researchand Technology Centre as a Research Technician.

Miranda began her Ph.D. there under thesupervision of Dr. Foxcroft. Her research focusincludes fetal programming in pig litters and theeffects of omega-3 fatty acids on piglet growthand sow reproduction.

Miranda is a two-time award winner of the R.O.Ball Young Scientist Award and hopes tocomplete her Ph.D. in early 2013.

Lyle Stewart was born and raised near Pense,Saskatchewan, where he continues to farm andranch with his wife Linda and son Lee. Lyle wasone of the first members in the newly formedSaskatchewan Party and was elected to theLegislative Assembly as the MLA for ThunderCreek in 1999.

He was re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2011.During his two terms in opposition, Lyle servedas the Interim Leader of the Party, as well as thecritic for Agriculture, Economic Development andIndustry and Resources.

On May 25, 2012, he was appointed as theMinister of Agriculture and minister responsiblefor Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corp.

Dr. Catherine Trask is an Ergonomist with a PhDin Occupational Hygiene from the University ofBritish Columbia. She is an Assistant Professorin the Canadian Centre for Health and Safety inAgriculture at the University of Saskatchewan.

Her research spans ergonomics, musculo-skeletal injury prevention, exposure assessment,and participatory interventions and she haspublished several scientific articles on thesetopics. Since arriving in Saskatchewan inAutumn 2011, she has been working on injuryprevention projects in intensive pork production.

Mark graduated from Iowa State University withhis BS degree and attained his MS and PhD atthe University of Kentucky in reproductivephysiology.

He was Professor at the University of Minnesota,Waseca for 11 years where he won severalNational awards for under-graduate educationand coordinated the swine research at theSouthern Experiment Station. He spent 9 yearsas director of technical service at United Feedswhile overseeing the boar and sow research. Hewas vice president of Technology Transfer atMinitube of America.

He is currently one of the scientists of theResearch and Nutritional Services Team forZinpro Corporation and is adjunct professor forthe University of Wisconsin and University ofMinnesota. Mark is a frequent speaker atNational and International Swine events.
