We promised a bumper November issue and I think you will agree we delivered!

I am really excited about our new releases and am very pleased with the development of the 2006 Baby Coin Sets. I enjoyed reading ‘The Magic Pudding’ with my children and I am confi dent this humorous Australian bush tale will be cherished in our coin sets.

The theme for 2006 celebrates our changeover to decimal currency. The introduction of a unique Australian currency gave us another opportunity to carve out a bold identity and showcase our exceptional fauna in currency design. Fondness for our 1c and 2c coins will resurface when you see them in proof fi nish.

The Silver Kangaroo series continues to develop in leaps and bounds and the 2006 design is as bold and patriotic as the other superb coins. It further delights with the inclusions of a joey and gorgeous packaging showcasing Australia’s landscapes.

Christmas is fast approaching and I, probably like many of you, am putting thought in to what to get family and those special friends living overseas. Consider the 2005 Christmas medallion, but beware…it is a hard gift to stop giving and it will quickly become a tradition and your signature gift.

I wish all our Collectors the best of the Season and thank you all for your support and feedback throughout 2005 and can promise more great things in 2006.

The Royal Australian Mint is proud to launch its new 2006 Eight Coin Proof Set that celebrates the 40th anniversary of Australia’s decimal currency.

The Mint has created a collection that pays a memorable tribute to the history of decimalisation, with brilliantly crafted coins that capture the beauty of yesterday and today.

Possibly the most exciting piece in the collection will be the 50 cent coin appearing in its original round form for

the fi rst time since 1966. Designed by Stuart Devlin, it is minted with a metal content of 80 per cent silver.

Two other coins that have not been used as legal tender since 1991 – the 1 and 2 cent pieces – also appear in the set, both beautifully crafted in bronze.

Long-time members of the coin stable – the 5, 10 and 20 cent pieces – are represented in the Proof Set, as well as the $1 and $2 coins.

Australian coins are highly sought after around the world and have a reputation to be proud of.

Celebrating Australia’s unique heritage, the set includes 1 cent, 2 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent, 50 cent, $1, and

$2 coins. Unlike the Proof Set, which features a round 50c coin (for the fi rst time since 1966), this set offers the 50 cent coin in dodecagonal form.

The Mint expects both the Proof Set and Uncirculated Set to be highly sought after by collectors, so be quick to secure your piece of Australian history.

Few children’s stories have stood the test of time like Norman Lindsay’s ‘The Magic Pudding’.

Since it was published in 1918, thousands of Australian children have grown up enjoying the adventures of Albert, the rude pudding, and his band of cheeky buddies, Bunyip Bluegum, Sam Sawnoff and Bill Barnacle.

Norman Lindsay’s original illustrations for ‘The Magic Pudding’ are now held at the State Library of NSW and the book is regarded as a national treasure.

As part of the new 2006 Baby Coin Set range, the Royal Australian Mint is offering ‘The Magic Pudding’ set in an uncirculated version.

The collection comes in a beautiful presentation folder adorned with original artwork from the book, as well as a special page to write your own personal message.

The Australian children’s classic bush tale ‘The Magic Pudding’ comes alive through this delightful set of six coins that form the Royal Australian Mint’s new 2006 Baby Coin Set.

‘The Magic Pudding’, by the legendary Norman Lindsay, remains one of the most popular children’s books in Australia today.

It follows the adventures of three characters, Bunyip Bluegum the koala and his two larrikin mates Sam Sawnoff and Bill Barnacle.

They travel through early-1900s Australia with a magically self-replenishing but temperamental pudding called Albert.

The story is soon to be brought to life on the big screen, with the voices of Aussie stars and the incomparable John Cleese as Albert.

The eternal popularity of the story and the upcoming fi lm are expected to make the Mint’s new Baby Coin Set a big hit as well.

Crafted to the Mint’s impeccably high standards, the pack contains the six circulating coins in proof fi nish and a fi ne silver frosted uncirculated medallion featuring the pudding character Albert.

The Mint’s Baby Sets make a unique and traditional gift for any new arrival that is sure to become a treasured heirloom.
