IN MEMORY

It is with great sadness that we learnt that our Club Patron, Margaret Lamb, passed away Saturday

13 October, 2012.

Until her health declined, Margaret had enjoyed many outings with our club in Charles’

side-valve Morris Oxford. She reminisced that she would have rather been on the pillion of a

motorbike as in her younger days with Charles .

On Charles’ death, we kept Margaret as our Club Patron, even though they no longer could

campaign their Morris in our club.

I am sure many of us will miss dear Margaret’s lovely smile and quiet sense of humour.

May our friend and Club Patron, Margaret, rest in peace with Charles.

PRESIDENT’S PAR

Firstly, it was great to see a good roll-up of members for the October Meeting as it was the long-weekend and usually the

attendance is low.

The main topic of discussion was spending some of the profit from the Swap Meet.

Approval was given to purchase a four wheel and a two wheel line-marker to mark the sites at the Swap Meet.

I suggest the Swap Meet Committee to make a “wish list” of things that will also make their job easier. No doubt we will

have some requests at future meetings from the Swap Meet Committee.

Also at the October Meeting it was agreed to donate some of the proceeds of the Swap Meet to the Cootamundra and

Harden Hospital Auxiliaries, and the Riding for the Disabled Association to the sum of $500 each. As we are a

community group I feel this was a great idea to put some of our good fortune back into some needy charitable

organisations as we haven’t done this for a number of years and we can financially afford to do this. It was agreed that

we would present the Harden Hospital Auxiliary their cheque at the Meeting in November as the Meeting will be at

Harden.

The Cootamundra Hospital Auxiliary and the RDA cheques presentations will be done in the December Meeting which

will coincide with our AGM. While on the subject of the Harden Meeting, as this will be the last time I will chair the

Meeting at Harden and like I did last year, I issued you a challenge to bring your old car out to Harden and leave the

modern rubbish at home. The same deal as last year a prize of either a Mars Bar or a Matchbox car, to any member who

brings their old car to Harden. This was received well last year so let’s get into the spirit and have some fun with our old

cars and get a prize as an added bonus.

Also I would like to encourage members attending the November Meeting to book for Dinner before the Meeting at

Harden Bowling Club. Book with Sue & Peter on 6386 3365 (evenings only) by 31 October.

This is a great opportunity for a get-together and a meal which is great value for a three course Chinese meal.

With the Annual General Meeting next month you will find enclosed a nomination form in the Coota Hoota. All

positions will become vacant. Please consider taking on a position as this can be very rewarding and you would be

making a valuable contribution to your club. These positions aren’t really time consuming and if I can be President while

holding a managerial position in my employment – other members have no excuse to not volunteer for a position.

In particular we need an Editor so we can give John Collins a break as he is well due for a long-earned rest.

With the Christmas Party rapidly approaching – could members keep Saturday 8 December free, as a drive to

Murrumburrah will be a great run for our old cars as well as being a great day.

From November Meeting through to December Meeting you can indicate whether or not you’ll be attending.

I would like to suggest we subsidise the Christmas Party Meal (maybe $10) per meal? This will be discussed at the

November Meeting.

Club member Laurie Stewart made a suggestion to have some of our club merchandise on display for members to see

what we have on offer. This proved to be successful, as some clothing was sold.

I will endeavour to have our merchandise on display in future meetings. I only have one small and one medium green

sloppy-joes (with no embroidery) left. I would like to get rid of them at the November Meeting so please think about it. I am willing to negotiate just to see them gone.

I would like to extend a personal Thank You to club member Doug Wright for presenting me with some beautiful

automotive memorabilia (mainly grille badges). As I’m an avid collector I will treasure these.

This is also another of the nice things about our club - the unselfishness of members which is why we are a strong club.

Finally, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Paul, Karen, Jordan and Ainsley Fuller. Please make Paul, Karen and

their family feel welcome and encourage Paul and Karen to participate and enjoy our club activities.

My quote for the month: I would like to dedicate to our newest members – Paul and Karen Fuller:

“NINE TENTHS OF EDUCATION IS ENCOURAGEMENT” -- Anatole France.

May the Ford be with you,

PAUL Page 4

ANNUAL VEHICLE INSPECTION

All vehicles on Conditional Registration must be inspected and passed for roadworthiness

prior to registration renewal each year.

The CAMC Inspection Day will be held on Sunday 2nd December 2012 commencing at

9AM at the Automotive Workshop of the Cootamundra TAFE College,

Mackay Street Cootamundra.

When you present your vehicle for inspection, please bring with you:

(a) Registration renewal papers (if you have received them),and

(b) Annual Club Membership renewal fee ($30),

(or your receipt showing that you have already paid.)

When your vehicle has been inspected and passed and your membership paid, the

“Conditional Registration Historic Vehicle Declaration” form (included with your registration

renewal – (but I have some in case you have not yet received your papers) can be completed

and signed, declaring that:

(a) ) The vehicle is in a safe operating condition, and

(b) ) The registered operator is a financial member of the club.

If your registration renewal is due during December or January bring the vehicle to the

inspection day, even though you may not have received your renewal papers.

Any Member who may not be able to attend the Inspection Day on the 2nd December, or has

more than one vehicle to be inspected, could bring their vehicle to the TAFE on a Wednesday

night between 7 and 10 PM when club members (and inspectors) are at the weekly workshop

session. If you intend to do this, please ring Alan Thompson to confirm appointment.

For new members who may wish to put a vehicle on Conditional Registration for the first time,

RTA application forms will be available.

There will be tea and coffee on hand for morning tea.

Socialise in Cootamundra’s Albert Park until 12 noon . . . . then . . off to Murrumburrah for Xmas Lunch.

NOVEMBER HOLIDAY TOUR : Miles travelled on this club’s Tasmania Tour -- 2,200 miles

Miles travelled on the Kangaroo Island Tour -- 2,400 miles

I wonder what the distance will be for this November’s Holiday Tour to Wilsons Promontory?

Michael Izzard has achieved the status of having had a successful heart transplant !

That certainly explains why we haven’t seen him active in past events!

Michael is currently recuperating in Cootamundra . . . and is a bit delicate.

[Michael’s first outing with us was in his 1958 MORRIS Major Cootamundra to Quandialla for a Damper

Making Day at Geoff Charlesworth’s in 2003.]

Michael says, “Thanks for the C.A.M.C. Get Well card. I need to be cheered up.”

Our present Club H number plates were first released in 2002. So we’ve had them for 10 years.

Aunty Jack reckons their size and colour spoils the historic appearance of our vehicles. A sissy little white

number plate (with a H on it) doesn’t match your original number plates.

John Collins’ VW 1200 --- won a trophy at German Autofest at Canberra in September.

Barry Gavin’s V8 Torana -- won a trophy at Toranafest at Newcastle in September.

John Hambrook’s Austin 1800 has been said to go like a rocket. Well so said John. . . .

And John has acquired a 1972 HQ Holden that needs a paint job.

Robert Penn Bradley has acquired another Armstrong Siddeley and is rewiring an Armstrong Siddeley.

Laurie Stewart has endured a lot of sorting out registrations with the Roads And Maritime Services.

(That’s what happens when the R.T.A. changes its name to R.&M.S.)

Ken Harrison’s Humber Super Snipe has been given a new gasket for its manifold . . .

in readiness for a trip with I.V.V.C. -- Wollongong to Pambula -- 24 - 29 October, 2012.

Royce Finlay has a 1980 INTERNATIONAL tractor -- so he’s put it on club plates so now it can drive to

Cootamundra Showground for Cootamundra & District Machinery Restoration Society’s Biennial (Look

Bienniel up in the Dictionary) Machinery Show in 2013. And our cars can go on Display, there, too.

Michael Bickford claims he sometimes strikes a blow on his pre-war Austin 10. Keep up the good work!

Gary Webb’s Mustang was the last club car in the Parade -- for the Running of The Sheep.

Paul Ballard intends to attend a Rally for Citroens and then continue on, in his 2.5 L 1985 Citroen, to

another rally at The Vintage Motor Garage, near Sydney – Saturday 13 October, 2012.

Geoff and Barbara beetled to Chinamans Dam. Col & Trish clowned to Chinamans Dam. Colin and Trish call their 1958 Morris Minor “The Clown” which is a bit of an insult to the car, when you consider that

the “Clown” Morris has towed a caravan, around Australia and Tasmania !!!

Colin wants it to be known that Morris Minor Travellers were released in 1953.

So next year is the 60th Birthday of such cars . . . . and because Colin has one,

you can give him presents next year; or Aunty Jack will rip your bloody arms off!

The Studebaker Lark convertible of Alan Thompson had . . . a slightly worn front end. Must be because

from 1960 it travelled the U.S.A. . . . until, after 50 years, it ended up -(!) - in Cootamundra.

After a few nights at Tech Workshop, Alan has now reconditioned the Lark’s front suspension. Page 7

Page 8: NOVEMBER 2012 - Cootamundra Antique Motor Club

Eddie Sams of Temora Antique Motor Club told the Secretary of Cootamundra Antique Motor Club that at

Ardlethan . . there is a 1966 Hillman Imp . . .with only 12,000 miles on the clock . . .

Tim bought it. And brought it home, to Harden.

The Imp has a 930 c.c. motor which just might go into his GT Imp.

Tim O’Keeffe just can’t help himself and so . . has bought another IMP. He says it’s for spare parts. Getting

as bad as the bike owners with their “spare parts”.

Our president -- is a prize in a Slave-For-A-Day Raffle. Tickets on sale at Woolworths.

Changing the subject . . . Our president recommended for cars - a bug remover -- SONAX insect remover, - on

sale at Cootamundra N.R.M.A. garage. - $14 for club members.

NEVER BE AFRAID TO LAUGH AT YOURSELF,

AFTER ALL, YOU COULD BE MISSING OUT ON THE JOKE OF THE CENTURY. AGE IS AN ISSUE OF MIND OVER MATTER. IF YOU DON’T MIND, THEN IT DOESN’T MATTER.

A concrete slab has been poured for THE NEW FIRE STATION being built for the 1957 Fire-Engine in

Dillon Ave. We are yet to be advised of the laying of the Foundation Stone or when the official opening will be. Eighty percent of success .. is .. showing up.

There’s been a lot written in The Hoota about the motorbikes in our club. But no reports from other rallies;

and visits to other clubs; and weddings; and Truck Shows; and GT Falcon Nationals?

Drivers too busy to put pen to paper?? Maybe their navigators would like to do a write-up???

Like, what about a story about the late John Hill’s MACK truck, now gone to Queensland?

For example: Here’s a little report: Which motorcycle owner on the Mid-Week Run in September, tried to kick-start

his bike to get it started, using a few choice words, too. At last his mate tapped him on the helmet and said,

“Got the ignition key turned on . . . . .. . ?”

“/?X1!!##! Bloody Japanese bikes!!” was his reply.

The Historic Railway Signals Gantry at Cootamundra Heritage Centre still needs painting.

And . . . . the tractor on show commemorating PLOUGH AND BE COUNTED . . . needs a car-port over it.

Our club has the funds. . . . to pay a painter, to hire a builder.

That’s all, Folks!

DRIPFEED & CRANKHANDLE ---- useful stuff and gossip gatherers. And . . During our Swap Meet -- The STEAM TRAIN SAFARI went from Sydney to Dubbo. We missed out going on it.

A train chaser took this photo of 3642 on 1September, 2012, our Swap Meet day . -- Sent to us by Patrick Livingstone
