Even the apostle Paul, a hero of the faith , had to learn to be content (Phil. 4:11). It was not a natural character trait for him. For Paul to write that he was content in every situation is truly amazing. At the time of this writing, he was in jail in Rome. Charged with sedition, treason, and other serious crimes, he had appealed to the highest court: Caesar himself. Without other legal recourse and friends in high places, he had to wait for his case to be heard. It seems as if Paul had the right to be an impatient and unhappy person. Instead, he wrote to the Philippians to say that he had learned to be content. How did he learn this? One step at a time until he could be satisfied even in uncomfortable environments. He learned to accept whatever came his way (v.12) and to receive with thanks whatever help fellow Christians could give (v. 14-18). And most important, he recognized that God was supplying all he needed (v.19). Contentment is not natural for any of us. The competitive spirit in us drives us to compare, to complain, and to covet. Few of us are in a predicament such as Paul’s , but we all face difficulties in which we can learn to trust God and be content. Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy

Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Lord our Governor, whose glory is in all the world: We commend this nation to thy merciful care, that, being guided by thy Providence, we may dwell secure in thy peace. Grant to the President of the United States, the Governor of this State (or Commonwealth), and to all in authority, wisdom and strength to know and to do thy will. Fill them with the love of truth and righteousness, and make them ever mindful of their calling to serve this people in thy fear; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Prayer...for our country

Prayer...for the President of the United States and all in Civil Authority

Prayer...for the ElectionAlmighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States (or of this community) in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

responds to all of our prayers, individual and corporate. Every prayer is to God a love poem from a dear child. Like any loving parent, our God rejoices in the faith that underlies our prayer.

Our Christ Church prayer list is offered as but one way to respond to the many and varied concerns of our members and our friends. In an effort to keep this essential part of our prayer life current and relevant, we will be updating the list weekly, and have determined that each month we will start a new list. If you wish to keep a name on the list for an extended period, please contact the office every month to let us know.

Bible Trivia: How old was Abraham when Issac was born ?

z 12 Tribes of Israel zThe Jewish forefather Jacob, fathered 12 sons - they are the ancestors of the tribes of

Israel, and the ones for whom the tribes are named. After conquering Israel, each tribe occupied a separate territory in the land (except

for the tribe of Levi which was set apart to serve in the Holy Temple). Joseph, Jacob’s 11th son, fathered two sons as part of the 12 tribes, Ephraim and Manasseh.

ABRAHAM > ISAAC > JACOB (ISRAEL)

Manasseh was the son of Joseph and Asnat (Pharoah’s daughter) and brother of Ephraim. Jacob adopts both Manasseh and his brother Ephraim as part of the tribe of Simeon and Reuben. Although Manasseh was technically the eldest son, he does not receive the greater blessing. Ephraim does, as Jacob foresaw that his descendants were more worthy of the blessing than Manasseh's (Genesis 48:13-20).

"Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve theLord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that theLord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We areHis people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with

thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, andbless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His

truth endures to all generations."
