BIG BEAUTY AT

Throw a one-man party. Make yourself a small meal or order a pizza the night before, and chill out on your couch until the “itis” gets the best of you.

Eat out and reserve a table at:Kincaid’s, a steakhouse near Ward Center. This upscale restaurant is pricey but worth it. Kincaid’s has a special holiday menu, so make reservations now! Or go to Side Street Inn on Kapahulu’s (pictured) famous holiday buffet. This restaurant is budget-friendly, so relax and eat up.

Find peers in your situation. Many students are from the mainland, and they probably won’t be fl ying home. Find those friends and plan a traditional “family” feast together.

When you’re out to eat a hearty meal at Big City Diner, you aren’t thinking about how your food benefi ts you – you’re too busy thinking about how good it tastes. But even your favorite loco moco can benefi t your beauty regime… RDINATOR

Guava is rich in Vitamin E and antioxidants, which keeps your skin lustrous and makes you glow.

THE REALLY LOCO, LOCO MOCOEggs contain choline and lutein, types of Vitamin B that help maintain skin tissue and elasticity. In other words, yes, eating a loco moco could help you look younger.

GRANDMA’S INCREDIBLE KIMCHEE FRIED RICEThe fermentation process that makes kimchi results in antioxidant production that quashes skin aging. Other nutrients in kimchi also reduce dry and fl aky skin.

PROTIP: Check out Big City Diner’s late-night happy hour for deals that will keep your wallet (and your complexion) even happier.

BRIDGET KITSON ADVERTISING STAFF WRITERART AT BAMBUTWO

In Chinatown, look for a colorful martini lounge called BambuTwo that sells more than bright drinks: It always has unique local artwork on display. This lounge is like a grown-up corner coffee shop with one-of-a-kind paintings and pieces. Go for the drinks, but stay for the art. It ranges from skateboard grip tape art to fl oral photography, and changes monthly.

TheVenue, BambuTwo’s attached event center, is large, modern and boasts warehouse-esque style, with cement fl oors and exposed beams striping the ceiling, letting the space become a canvas for fun and exciting events. Keep an ear out for new art exhibits, fashion shows and more.

BambuTwo does it all as a classy place for drinks, but they also keep a foot in the art scene – with style. If the pretty drinks didn’t convince you, let the art sway you to take a look for yourself. Better move quickly: BambuTwo will be undergoing a transformation very soon. But that’s art: ephemeral and fl eeting.

BELTNo matter how popular Justin

Bieber is with the ladies, don’t for a second think it’s due to his baggy pants. A belt is a necessary item,

and there is no excuse not to have one. Diesel sells quality leather belts with well-made clasps for

around $60. Go for darker shades to avoid clashing with your pants.

WATCH Sure, everyone has a phone to check the time, but be honest: who wants to constantly pull it out during class, or even worse,

a date? A nice watch adds character, but you don’t need a

Rolex to look good. Nixon is nice because their watches range

from old-school leather bands to bright electric faces to sleek chrome. Check for it at Macy’s

and Nordstrom.

DARK-WASH JEANS

This is the most fl attering shade for guys, so go for a straight

fi t – light-wash baggy jeans are never in. A well-fi tted pair can be dressed up or down. Levi’s has

been a go-to brand for years, and for good reason! Check out their 501 Original Fit Jeans, which look good on most any body shape.

Fashion shows pop up all the time, so make sure you’re not the odd one out for your fi rst one.

1. USE YOUR PHONE. Social media is an important way to showcase designer work.

2. BE FASHIONABLY LATE. The average fashion shows starts 30 to 45 minutes late.

3. CONTAIN YOURSELF. Yes, the clothing is gorgeous, but save your gushing for the designer.

4. DON’T TALK.Talking should be kept to a bare minimum. You’re there to watch a show, not gossip.

5. WEAR FLAT SHOES.You’ll probably end up standing most of the time, which brings us to number six…

6. PREPARE TO STAND.You’ll be standing a lot: waiting to get in, waiting for it to start, watch-ing the actual show, socializing...

7. HAVE BUSINESS CARDS.You never know who you’re going to meet or how they’ll be able to help you later.

8. STAY OUT OF THE WAY. Don’t block the way for anybody in a rush or who is an important part of the show.

9. AVOID HYPERCRITICISM.Nobody cares if you think the closing dress was “so last season.” Focus on the positives.

10. BE YOURSELF. You don’t need to dress outrageous-ly to show your style. The simplest outfi ts can be the most fl attering.

3FALL MUST-HAVESAT VALERIE JOSEPHBOUTIQUE

SAMMI BAUMGARTNERADVERTISING STAFF WRITER

Fall—a season Hawaii lacks, not only in weather, but also in fashion. Fortunately, Valerie Joseph Boutique, located on the fi rst fl oor of Ala Moana Shopping Center, has identifi ed three trends for the season.

1 THE SHIFT DRESS

The shift dress may belong to the warmer

months, but it is perfect year round here. Pair the dress ($53) with a belt

($21) to cinch in the waist line – creating an hourglass fi gure. Snatch a muted one,

like navy blue or black.

2 LEOPARD PRINTS

It’s the trend that never dies: Leopard

is sexy, sophisticated and cute all at once! Valerie

Joseph features it on everything from

headbands to shoes. Try a gold, steel-toed,

leopard-print heel ($59) with a plain

dress or jeans to jazz up the outfi t.

3 FUR

Hawaii may seem like the last place on Earth to want fur, but furry accessories like earrings, bangles, and bags are appropriate

for the season. Try a leather bag lined

with fur ($79) to turn heads. This adorable purse also comes in

navy blue.
