EditorialDear Ladies and Gentlemen,Dear Porsche Club Members

Dr. Kjell Gruner Marketing Manager

The LMP1 race car 919 Hybrid started Porsche’s comeback to top-class endur-ance racing in Le Mans. Remarkable per-formances in Austin, Fuji and Shanghai were now followed by a success in Sakhir/Bahrain: For the first time both Porsche 919 Hybrid crews made it to the podium, finishing second and third. The 919 Hybrid is the most innovative race car that Porsche has ever built. And we are already refining it for the 2015 season. It is our racing lab of the future.

A lot of things that are tried and tested for racing are subsequently incorporated in the standard versions. Drive concepts such as the hybrid were first tested for racing. The turbocharger, a number of aerodynamic developments, lightweight constructions, numerous innovative mate-rials and safety concepts were first tested here. The Porsche-Museum is currently presenting the most exciting top secret projects as part of a special exhibition. It is well worth a visit, with projects and cars that have never been shown to the public but that have had a fair share in making sure that Porsche is always a step ahead of its time.

The fact that it is not just our race cars that feel at home on the race track, but also our standard models, has been proven by the Federazione Italiana Porsche Club and Porsche Italia with an impressive driving programme on five Italian race tracks. Here, members of the Italian Clubs and cus-tomers of Porsche Centres were able to ex-perience the connection between racing performance and day-to-day usability that is typical for Porsche in a professional setting. From Porsche classics to the wide range of current models – each Porsche owner not only participated in the challenging track program in their own vehicle, but also travelled to the event in it.

The fact that the classic cars do well here too is particularly important to Porsche Classic. Porsche AG is expanding the inter-national dealer and service network to ap-proximately 100 Porsche Classic Partners. Preservation of modern and classic cars is a matter of great concern to Porsche; not least because of their long service life. The selected Porsche Centres have been certified especially for this purpose. Porsche Classic has set up seven centres this year, with further international centres to follow. The preservation of modern and classic cars is a comprehensive worldwide commitment for us.

Our new product features are all about per-formance as well. At the Los Angeles Auto Show, Porsche presented the new 911 models Carrera GTS and Carrera 4 GTS, the entry model from the Cayenne model series and the performance-oriented Cayenne GTS. At Porsche, GTS stands for the especially sporty model version that combines pure performance with sporti-ness in day-to-day driving. In addition, the new Cayenne S E-Hybrid completely rede-fines the standards of responsible perfor-mance in its class. Porsche Exclusive has created a design package for the world premiere of the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, the first premium SUV with plug-in hybrid drive. This transforms your Cayenne into a vehi-cle with the highest standards in design as well as technical innovation.

The Porsche Clubs too are a guarantee for exceptional Porsche performance. This year, the Porsche Parade in the USA was once again the biggest Porsche Club event in the world. Approximately 2,400 partici-pants with almost 1,200 Porsche vehicles gathered in Monterey. The framework pro-gramme spoke for itself: sporty rallies, a Concours d’Elégance and a visit from the Porsche family, which has already become

a tradition. The company was represented by the managment of the Porsche Mu-seum, Porsche Classic, Porsche Exclusive and Tequipment, and of course Porsche Community Management. The high level of participation proves the success of the global Porsche Club community, as well as the huge interest by Americans, who re-warded this Club event with high atten-dance and enthusiasm.

This season, approximately 186,000 Club members were able to experience Porsche together and prove their enthusiasm for Porsche at lots of local and international events all around the world. This is Porsche performance, which we enjoy supporting with our races, new product features, ser-vices and our Club coordination by Porsche Community Management.

To this effect, I wish you plenty of success and popularity for the remainder of the cur-rent season, and of course, have fun read-ing your Porsche Club News.

Best regards from Zuffenhausen,

Yours,Dr. Kjell Gruner

For the first time both Porsche 919 Hybrid crews were part of the podium ceremony: The trio of Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb finished second in round seven of the FIA World Endurance Championship in Bahrain. Immediately behind them the sister car crossed the line. Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber came third in the six-hour race. These are the fourth and fifth podium finishes for the Porsche 919 Hybrid in its debut season. Great fights for position in the beginning and strategies that pro-duced exciting outcomes in the end were the result of the penultimate round of the world championship, along with high temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius.

Wolfgang Hatz, Member of the Board, Research and Development, Porsche AG: “Second and third with both crews on the podium – this is a very nice conclusion to this exciting race. We tried everything, but a race win wasn’t quite possible yet. However, again we have made a significant step forward.”

Despite an inspired charge through the field on the Bahrain International Circuit it was not enough for the Porsche 911 RSR to secure a podium spot for the first time in this year’s sports car World Endurance Championship, two weeks after a brilliant double vic-tory in Shanghai. In the number 91 Porsche Team Manthey 911 RSR, Porsche works driv-ers Jörg Bergmeister and Richard Lietz scored fourth place in the highly competitive GTE-Pro. Their factory pilot colleagues and Shanghai winners Frédéric Makowiecki and Patrick Pilet from France saw the flag in fifth at the wheel of the number 92 vehicle.

No upper limits:Four new top models complement the 911 Carrera family: Coupé and Cabriolet, each with rear wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Four new top models for the 911 Carrera family

Porsche is sending the second generation of the 911 Carrera GTS to the start line: Four models – Coupé and Cabriolet, each with rear or all-wheel drive – close the gap between the 911 Carrera S and the road sports car optimised for racing circuits, the 911 GT3. 430 hp (316 kW) power, Sport Chrono package and the PASM active damper system with ten-millimetre lowering are some of the technical ingredients for even more 911 driving dynamics and driv-ing pleasure. Another result of the increased efficiency is faster acceleration and higher top speeds, despite the overall consump-tion values remaining unchanged at the fa-vourable level of the S models. In conjunc-tion with PDK Porsche Doppelkupplung, the 911 Carrera GTS achieves a best value for acceleration from zero to 100 km/h of 4.0 seconds (cabriolet: 4.2 seconds). The top speed for all of the GTS models is over the 300 km/h mark; the front runner is the coupé with manual transmission and rear-wheel drive with a speed of 306 km/h.

Moreover, the new top models are attrac-tively priced in terms of their equipment features. A number of options such as the Bi-Xenon headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) or the sports exhaust system for the unmistak-able GTS sound are included as standard. The driver and front passenger sit in an ex-clusive interior in Alcantara on leather sports seats, the centre strips of which are made of Alcantara, as on the other Porsche GTS models.

The exteriors of the new 911s are very different from the other Carrera models, as with all Porsche GTS models. They all fea-ture the 911 Carrera 4 body with the wide-set wheel housings on the rear axle and the wide track. The 20-inch wheels with central locking and painted exclusively in matt Black are also standard. The special front apron and darkened Bi-Xenon headlights lend the front view its distinctive appear-ance. Black painted strips on the specific

GTS air intake grille and black chrome-plated tailpipes distinguish the GTS rear end.

With the new top models, the 911 Carrera family now features twelve sports cars in three power levels, as a coupé and cabriolet, with rear and four-wheel drive. The 911 Carrera GTS and the 911 Carrera 4 GTS are available in Germany, including the country-specific equipment and 19 per cent value-added tax starting from 117,549 euros. The four models are available for purchase in Germany from November 2014.

01 News from Porsche AG

Standard model: The new Cayenne benefits from general efficiency measures such as the coasting function, Auto Start-

Stop and thermal management, and has more comprehensive standard equipment.

World premiere for Cayenne and Cayenne GTS

The new Cayenne GTS announces its out-standing sporting character in its very name. At Porsche, GTS stands for espe-cially sporty models. At the same time, the new entry-level model with the familiar 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine rounds off the Cayenne portfolio at the lower end of the range.

Porsche drivers like their car to be sporty – regardless of whether it has two doors or four. At eleven percent, the GTS version of the Cayenne makes up a high proportion of the model mix of what is currently Porsche’s most successful range, with the four-door sports cars in general long since making a major contribution to the company’s profit-able growth. At the same time they ensure future investment in the broad spectrum of highly dynamic models offered across the entire portfolio. It is not only the name of the Cayenne GTS that is resonant. The 3.6-litre V6 bi-turbo engine is the performance-oriented enhancement of the new power unit presented in the Cayenne S. Its con-sumption is lower and it delivers improved levels of performance. Compared to the previous model with a V8 naturally aspirated engine, power output rises by 20 hp to 440 hp and torque by 85 Nm to 600 Nm, while fuel consumption goes down by up to 0.9 l/100 km. The Cayenne GTS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, or just

5.1 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package. That’s 0.5 and 0.6 seconds re-spectively less than the previous model. Top speed is 262 km/h. As standard it has a sports exhaust system, which provides the familiarly meaty GTS sound.

Thanks not least to its suspension the Cayenne GTS captivates drivers with its un-mistakable lateral dynamics. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) damping system has a sporty set-up. With the standard steel-spring suspension the vehicle sits 24 millimetres lower, while with the optional air suspension it’s 20 millime-tres. Further standard features include the brakes from the Cayenne Turbo with 390-millimetre discs on the front axle (358 millimetres at the back), inclusive of brake callipers painted red in typical turbo fashion.

Other design attributes also turn the Cayenne GTS externally into a sporty vehi-cle. As standard it has the turbo nose sec-tion with large air intakes and the Sport De-sign package, including more contoured side sills and wheel arch extensions. The latter, like the roof spoiler and lower rear of the vehicle, are painted in the car body co-lour. The colour black provides some strik-ing contrasts: all lettering is black, as are the 20-inch wheels in the RS Spyder design, the exhaust tailpipes, the bi-xenon head-lights’ inner apertures and the fittings of the darkened LED rear lights. There’s a new fea-

ture on the front doors: striking GTS letter-ing.

The sporting character continues on the in-side. Eight-way electrically adjustable GTS sports seats in leather/Alcantara uphol-stery, including GTS lettering on the head-rests, are fitted as standard. Alcantara is the predominant upholstery material used inside the car. The interior GTS package is optionally available in carmine red or rho-dium silver with rev counter face, decora-tive stitching, headrest lettering and safety belts in contrasting colour.

The engine used in the Cayenne, the new base model, is the familiar 3.6-litre V6 natu-rally aspirated engine, delivering 300 hp. It accelerates the Cayenne from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds – 7.6 seconds with the op-tional Sport Chrono package. That’s 0.2 seconds faster than before. At 230 km/h, top speed matches the level of the previous model. Like all new Cayenne models it ben-efits from the general efficiency measures, such as coasting, Auto Stop/Start function and thermal management, as a result of which fuel consumption drops in compari-son to the previous model by 0.7 l/100 km to 9.2 l/100 km. That equates to CO2 emis-sions of 215 g/km, thus 21 g/km lower than before.

Compared to the previous model the new Cayenne also offers more comprehensive standard features. In addition to the new eight-speed Tiptronic S with Auto Stop/Start and coasting functions these also in-clude, for instance, the bi-xenon main head-lights with four-point LED daytime driving lights, the multi-function sports steering wheel with paddle switches and the auto-matic boot lid.

The Cayenne and Cayenne GTS are cele-brating their world premiere on November 19th at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. Sales of both models will start in Germany at the end of February 2015. The price for the Cayenne in Germany is 65,427 Euro and for the Cayenne GTS 98.152 Euro, in each case including value added tax and country-specific features.

Development, research and experimentation lie at the heart of the Porsche brand. Over 4,500 engineers work in the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach in order to ensure that Porsche is always a step ahead. The path to new innovations is not always a straight one. For technical or economic reasons, many good ideas don’t make it to series production.

After these projects are completed, the secret studies and development vehicles are usually scrapped. However, the most important or most exciting of these projects are passed on to the Porsche Museum. From there, they will now be made public for the first time as part of a special exhibition.

PROJECT: TOP SECRET!

Porsche 995 research car1978/79, 8-cylinder V-engine, 130 hp, 1,290 kg, 200 km/h

Commissioned by the German Ministry for Research and Technology as a concept for a futuristic sports car. The focus was on consumption, safety and noise emissions. The car had a five-gear double clutch and two engine concepts: a V8 engine with automatic cylinder shut-off and a four-valve four-cylinder power unit.

Porsche 960 P.E.S. study1980, 8-cylinder V-engine, 250 hp, 1,090 kg, 260 km/h

Lower consumption, higher safety. As part of the 8th Traffic Safety Conference (ESV) in October 1980, Porsche presented the study of a safety vehicle. The aim was to save a considerable amount of fuel by reducing the weight without having to make compromises on safety- relevant components. As a result, not only the doors, bonnet and front wings, but the entire front section of the vehicle are manufactured from aluminium. There are also numerous developments for pedestrian and occupant protection that were used in subsequent vehicle generations.

Porsche 924 world record vehicle1976/77, 4-cylinder turbo, 250 hp, 980 kg, 280 km/h

Porsche wanted to accompany the market launch of the 924 with a spectacular marketing campaign. The 924 too was a response to the increasing sensibility for consumption and acquisition costs. The aim was for the 924 to set a long-distance record as a high-speed vehicle with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and an average speed of approximately 250 km/h. Thanks to its ingenious aerodynamics, it achieved speeds as high as 280 km/h, making it at least the fastest 924. The project was stopped for strategic reasons shortly before the record attempt in 1977.

Long-term vehicle FLA research project1973, 4-cylinder bank, 75 hp, approx. 1,000 kg, approx. 160 km/h

As a resource-efficient response to the global economic and oil crisis in the 70s, Porsche presented a vehicle concept designed for a life span of 20 years that would be able to travel 300,000 km, which was rather unusual at the time. Both the materials and all technical components were extremely wear-resistant. The 2.5-litre engine achieved a modest 75 hp; however, this allowed it to achieve a maximum life output.

They were one of a kind. They were ahead of their time. And they were top secret.

Porsche 918 Spyder rolling chassis prototype2011, parallel full hybrid with V8 engine + 2 electric motors550 hp, 1,250 kg, 150 km/h

After the study of the 918 made global headlines in Geneva and Beijing, the Board of Management decided on series development in the summer of 2010. The “rolling chassis” shown here comprises a monocoque frame, the chassis and the drivetrain. It is also possible to drive the vehicle without the bodywork, meaning that development engineers were able to start with the fine tuning of the three highly complex powertrain units at a very early stage.

Porsche 918 Spyder lap record2013, parallel full hybrid with V8 engine + 2 electric motors887 hp, 1,634 kg, 345 km/h

On 4th of September 2014, the 918 Spyder was the first vehicle with global road approval to drive the 20.6 kilometre-long Nordschleife of the Nürburg-ring in under seven minutes. At exactly six minutes and 57 seconds, Porsche works driver Marc Lieb beat the former record by 14 seconds.

With the Nürburgring record, the 918 Spyder proves the enormous potential of the Porsche plug-in hybrid concept and underlines the pioneering role of the company in this forward-looking technology.

Development, research and experimentation lie at the heart of the Porsche brand.A lot of this takes place behind closed doors.

Porsche Panamera S prototype2008, eight-cylinder V-engine, 400 hp, 1,770 kg, 285 km/h

The time has come for a four-seater Porsche sports car, and a goal that we have not lost sight of over the years becomes reality: In 2009, the Porsche Panamera is launched on the market. Prior to this, the prototypes have to pass the day-to-day driving test and cover kilometres. The cars are subjected to the most extreme conditions: from the heat of Death Valley in the USA to Arctic cold in Scandinavia. Numerous components and covers protected this development stage 1 prototype from the overly curious eyes of spy photographers.

Porsche 989 study1991, eight-cylinder V-engine, 200 hp, 1,572 kg, 297 km/h

In the late eighties, a decision was made to develop a new model series with the project name 989.

As a four-door “family sports car” or “Porsche for more than two”, the sports saloon with a V8 front engine and rear wheel drive was set to be launched on the market by 1995. However, the supervisory board stopped the project in 1991 for cost reasons. A number of detailed solutions later found their way into the 996 model series.

Many projects were never implemented. However, the work involved was never wasted. A lot of ideas and approaches were used in subsequent Porsche models.

Porsche 944 Turbo endurance test vehicle1986, four-cylinder in-line engine, 220 hp, 1,350 kg, 245 km/h

In 1986 – exactly 100 years after the first patent application for an automobile – a Porsche 944 started off on a trip around the world. The car was exactly the same as the series production vehicle. Well, except for the spare canister and additional spare wheels on the roof.

For Porsche, this wasn’t just about circumnavigating the world as quickly as possible by car, but also about proving the resilience of catalytic converter technology, which was still new at the time. After 31 days, the vehicle achieved the record for: the first circumnavi-gation of the world in a vehicle with a catalytic converter, the first circumnavigation in winter and the fastest circumnavigation to date. The tool kit that was brought along just in case was not touched!

Porsche 928 Cabriolet study1987–88, eight-cylinder in-line engine, 320 hp, 1,649 kg, 70 km/h In 1977, Porsche launches the Porsche 928, intended to be the successor to the 911. Porsche Head Designer Anatole Lapine had developed a completely new design language for the 928. The designers also planned a Targa version from the start; however, this was never implemented. 10 years after the start of production, a cabriolet version was considered. The study, in which only one specimen was built, stands out due to its elegant, harmonious shape. The project was stopped in 1988.

The predominantly black interior features numerous Porsche Exclusive special fea-tures. The interior package, the painted air vent slats and the aluminium Tiptronic S gear selector give it a sporty edge. The decorative stitching in Acid Green creates an extra contrast. The Porsche crest on the headrests and the model logo on the centre console storage compartment have been embossed by hand. An exclusive detail that means you don’t forget where you are: in a Porsche sports car.

The exterior is muscular. New design lines make it exceptionally dynamic. And Porsche Exclusive gives it that special something. Straight from the factory. For example, with the SportDesign package with side skirts, Bi-Xenon main headlights in black including the Porsche Dynamic Light System and sports tailpipes in black. Or with 21-inch Cayenne SportEdition wheels painted in black high-gloss with wheel arch extensions. And, of course, wheel spacers for the front and rear axle and the tank cap in aluminium look are a must. That’s enthusiasm. From the first glance down to the last detail. With Porsche Exclusive.

01 News from Porsche AG

More than 70 per cent of all Porsche cars ever built are still on the road today. For optimum support and reconditioning of classic vehicles, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG is expanding its international dealer and service network to comprise approxi-mately 100 Porsche Classic Partners. The full range of Porsche Classic services awaits Porsche customers and prospec-tive customers there. These include provi-sion of around 52,000 original spare parts, repair and maintenance work as well as full and partial restorations. Porsche thereby integrates the care and value retention of both modern and classic cars into an inno-vative service concept that intertwines Porsche tradition and innovation.

The Vélizy Porsche Centre in France was certified as the world’s first Porsche Clas-sic Partner. This was followed by the four German centres 5 Seen, Hofheim, Berlin-Potsdam and Hanover as well as Bangkok, Thailand and Budapest, Hungary. Further Porsche Classic partners are forming in Japan, the USA, South Africa, Australia, Colombia, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands and other countries.

Porsche Classic Partners provide custom-ers and their historic Porsche cars with competent contact persons on site, who combine service and consultation with expertise. Porsche Classic has developed a special training concept for this purpose,

which all employees complete. As a result, Porsche ensures a consistent high quality standard at all classic car service points. In addition, Porsche Classic partners set up a separate area to present classic showroom vehicles, current spare parts and technical literature right in their showroom.

Information about the Porsche Classic partners, current Classic news and events is also available atwww.porsche.com/classic-partners

Porsche Club News: Mr. Salm-Reiffer- scheidt, do you drive a classic Porsche?Philipp Salm-Reifferscheidt: Yes, I own a pastel green Porsche 911 2.4 T Targa which I bought a few years ago. Unfortu-nately, I barely find the time to drive it.

PCN: Porsche is expanding its international dealer and service network to approxi-mately 100 Porsche Classic partners. Porsche is thereby supporting the prover-bial longevity of Porsche classics.PSR: More than 70% of all Porsche cars ever built are still on the road today. By im-plementing the Porsche Classic partner concept, we want to ensure that this is still the case in the future – we are indeed supporting the longevity of all Porsche classics.

PCN: To date, Porsche Classic has assis-ted owners of classic cars at its support point in Zuffenhausen. Is the establish-ment of an international service network

the strategic answer to the developments in the classics markets over the past few years?PSR: We continue to support owners of classic cars in the Classic Workshop as we did before. However, the focus here is on restoration. The Porsche Centres that have been supporting Porsche Classic vehicles successfully for years and that meet the qualification and equipment requirements have been made Porsche Classic partners. As there is an ever-increasing number of new owners of classic Porsches who do not yet know whom to turn to with their Porsche classic car, we want to specify competent contact persons with the Porsche Classic partners.

PCN: What can owners of classic Porsche cars expect from these partners in future? As well as a total supply of around 52,000 Porsche Classic Genuine Parts, customers can also expect competent contact per-sons when it comes to Porsche classic cars – both in the workshop and when it comes to parts supply. The Porsche Clas-sic partners are always completely up to date when it comes to the latest product highlights, such as Porsche Classic engine oil, the new oil filters, the bodywork and lightweight construction parts and much more.

PCN: Over what time period will the final total of 100 partners be certified and established?PSR: Certification of Porsche Classic partners will take place continuously over the coming years, not only the Classic ex-pertise, but also the spatial requirements have to be available in order to provide Porsche Classic with enough space in the showroom.

PCN: How many vehicles does Porsche Classic “support” each year? If the focus is on the 356 vehicles, how do the other model series develop, for example the transaxle vehicles that are gradually start-ing to have the status of a value-retaining modern car?PSR: The number of cars in the Porsche Classic segment is approximately 680,000

worldwide. This includes vehicles from the Porsche 356 to the 911 (including the 996 model), 912, 914, the transaxle models 924, 944, 928 and 968, the super sports car 959, right up to the Boxster (986 model). Basically, we try to keep a suitably high parts supply available for all models. The increase in value of some vehicles surely also encourages customer willing-ness to use Genuine Parts and thereby help with the vehicles’ value retention. In 2016, we will also be celebrating “40 years of the Porsche transaxle” with the Porsche 924‘s 40th birthday.

PCN: Porsche Classic has a close connec-tion with the Porsche Clubs and Porsche Community Management. They are present at several Club events and participate in the Porsche Classic Clubs Round Table. What can Club members expect from the new strategy?PSR: Porsche Classic Club members are always well informed about our classic strategy initiatives by their Presidents. Porsche Community Management is also in close contact with us and can bring in-formation to all Club members’ attention quickly and directly in this way. Of course, our Classic partners would be happy to advise Club members at any time. All other information is available at www.porsche.com/classic.

PCN: Lastly, a classic question about classic cars: What is the most unusual ve-hicle that Porsche Classic has ever had in its care?PSR: We are currently restoring the 1964 Porsche 911 Monte Carlo Rally, which was the first Porsche 911 factory vehicle to take part in a race, in January 1965. Huschke von Hanstein sent this Porsche 911 into the race at the Monte Carlo Rally with Peter Falk and Herbert Linge at the wheel and the objective of arriving un-scathed in Monaco. The result was 5th place overall. And consequently, the Porsche 911 was officially presented to the royal house and the enthusiastic world press as part of the presentation ceremony. This vehicle is now undergoing full restoration at Porsche Classic.

Porsche Sport Driving SchoolMaster training, Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (PT) 8th–9th of November 2014

Have you already completed several Porsche Sport Driving School training courses but just can’t get enough? Of course, you could start with motor sports, but maybe you prefer developing your talent with other strong and experienced participants?

Then the master training course is perfect for you. Here, the highest level of driving expertise is demanded of you. And at your side, a Porsche works driver who is incorporated into the program as well as our instructors. So it’s only logical that we recommend participation in powerful vehicles. You will be driving at a high level. We don’t waste time with the basics. Instead, we go straight to independent driving and learning how to negotiate the track quickly without traffic cones or instructors. Of course, this will involve recognising and implementing the correct ideal line. You will also find out how to further optimise this.

The driving performance is then analysed together in small groups using video and data evaluation. The high amount of free driving means you have plenty of opportunities to put the feedback into practice and continuously improve your driving performance – individual laps are even with one-to-one supervision.

Additionally, in a workshop with plenty of theory and practical exercises, you will learn everything you need to know about the chassis and tyres in order to get the most out of your car on the road. Another treat: taxi rides in the cup car (where available).

Porsche Winter Driving Experience 2015Driving experiences on snow and ice in Finland

For many, winter is a time to rest and reflect. At Porsche Driving Experience we see that a little differently – actually, we see it completely differently.

Finland. One of the northernmost countries in the world. Its borders lie on the other side of the Arctic Circle. Winter dominates the snowbound landscape. With temperatures far below freezing. For 200 days a year. Ideal conditions for unrestricted driving pleasure.

Our location is right in the middle of this wintry area: Levi, a modern winter sports resort, which is renowned for its traditional Lapland hospitality. In other words: Levi provides the best conditions for the Porsche Driving Experience winter programme. In icy, but controlled conditions you can improve your driving skills in our winter pro-gramme. Of course under instruction from the Porsche Driving Experience trainers over four successive levels created especially for you: precision, performance, master and the advanced special level. Learn about intelligent braking, evasive manoeuvres or controlled drift on specially prepared sections and handling circuits.

In detail this means: first-time participants start with the Precision training Camp4, before moving on to Camp4S, which centres on performance. In the next level up, Ice-Force, the focus is on perfecting your vehicle control at the limit. Finally, the special Ice-ForceS training puts your driving skills to the test in extremely challenging conditions. Various Porsche models are available depending on your training level.

There are almost no limits as to what you can achieve behind the wheel. The only question is how exactly you want to spend the winter.

Take up the challenge. And shift up a gear this winter. We’ll be delighted to see you.

The development, production and delivery of Porsche Classic Genuine Parts is making a vital contribution to preserving

Naturally, we ensure that all Porsche standards are met in terms of technol-ogy, quality and safety – even with new versions of parts. In addition, we are constantly endeavouring to close gaps in the spare parts range by continuously monitoring, updating and expanding our inventory.

Some of the products also have an exciting story behind their production and testing.

The reason: Each Genuine Part has its own tale. Just like your Porsche.

Summer, when the call of the mountain passes is clear, is time for the 356. The power of the engine drives it uphill, downhill it relies on its agility – and the drum brakes. These are given a thorough workout on such trips. Owners of a Classic Porsche should pay particular attention to this wearing part. This means: adhering to the specified maintenance intervals, checking the brakes, observing the instructions on replacing them in the repair guideline and exchanging the brake shoes if necessary.

Porsche Classic has now recreated the brake shoe on the basis of the original tech-nical drawings.

The brake shoe is available in two versions. As a zero size, it is suitable for brake drums that are new or as good as new. The over-size brake shoe can compensate for wear in used drums.

During the development of the spare part, the Porsche experts paid particular atten-tion to the perfect material composition of

the brake pads in order to meet Porsche safety standards and to keep in tune with the outstanding reputation of the Porsche brakes.

The pads were subjected to a comprehen-sive endurance test on a specially created brake drum test bench. The process simu-lates driving and braking procedures, conducts light and heavy braking processes in turn and subjects the brake shoes to extreme loads.

The objective was to prevent the fading that can occur under extreme loads when the brakes are very hot and also to ensure harmonious response and braking behav-iour in all operating conditions. After suc-cessful laboratory testing, the brake shoes underwent practice tests to prove their performance. This was a resounding success.

With the new version of the original brake shoes, Porsche Classic has created the optimum prerequisites for driving the

The series of events kicked off back in March at the race track in Vallelunga, with more than 50 vehicles. In May, 85 participants were eager to go on the race track in Monza, having travelled from all over Italy to be there. And in July, 70 participants turned up in Imola, where record heat saw temperatures climb to almost 40 degrees Celsius in the shade!

All participants were also able to book a special offer from the Porsche Sport Driving School, allowing them to learn new skills behind the wheel of the latest Porsche models.

Sergio Ancarani, President of the Federazione Italiana Porsche Club, sums up the secret to the success of these events as follows: “The Porsche Club Days are always held on the weekend, and are open to all Porsche Club members as well as Porsche customers accompanied by the Porsche Centres. We have exclu-sive use of the race tracks on the Porsche Club Days. Of course, “free driving” is the main focus of our Porsche Club Days. To ensure everyone gets their money’s worth, we make allowances for everyone’s level of experience with race track driving when

dividing our participants into groups. Along with driving on the race track, there was also plenty of time for friends to catch up over good Italian espresso at the small but excellent ‘Porsche Bar’ that we set up in a box right next to the respective race track.”

THE RACEWAYSummer in Finland. Tropical temperatures. At the same place drift challenges are held in winter in conditions that could not be more different, the Porsche Club Finland held its second Porsche Club Finland Festival.

Nature at its finest. The Alastaro Raceway is surrounded by forests extending as far as the eye can see, in the middle of a virtually unsettled region.

The raceway provided a spectacular location for three exciting Porsche Days, held from 22nd to 24th of August 2014.

ATMOSPHEREWith the Carrera Cup Scandinavia, the GT3 Cup Trophy and the Sports Cup all involved in the event, a fascinating array of racing cars and road vehicles could be admired in the drivers’ camp on the Saturday and Sunday. The sight of around 400 Porsche vehicles blended harmoniously into the race track atmosphere.

The members of the Porsche Club Finland all had the opportunity to participate in guided drives between the respective races, scoring points in a slalom competition and ensuring they got to experience the Porsche feeling for themselves while racing around the circuit.

Following the positive response received in 2013, the Porsche Club Finland organised this Club meeting for the second time, shar-ing the invitation to this motor sports event with the Carrera Cup Scandinavia.

On Friday, the concentrated horsepower of the Sports Cup, GT3 Cup Trophy and the Carrera Cup vehicles were able to drive their test laps on this high-speed race track with all its run-out zones. At the same time, all of the other Porsche owners were in-

vited to complete laps in their very own ve-hicles.

In addition, two more highlights were await-ing the participants: the Porsche Centre Helsinki presented the new Macan, and the Concours d’Elégance provided an opportu-nity to decide just who is the fairest in all the land. Around 60 Club members and their vehicles took part in the show: a show which holds something special for every Porsche fan. The winner among all the

beauties was a 911 SC Targa in the tradi-tional Porsche colour – green. That this classic has remained in good hands and was voted the winner of the Concours by the 5-member jury indicates how well a Porsche retains its value.

A personal note: it was a real pleasure for me to be part of this jury!

BIG PARADEPacific, sun and palm trees. A week crammed full of non-stop events, work-shops, gala receptions and excursions – and with 1,122 Porsche vehicles, the biggest Porsche Parade USA ever held. This might be one way to sum up the 59th Porsche Parade held by the Porsche Club of America in just a few words. But it just doesn’t do justice to this superlative Porsche event.

A world of Porsche:Porsche was proud to be present with Porsche

From the 15th to 21st of June 2014, the Porsche Club of America held its annual Porsche Parade, a one-week event involving everything that a Porsche fan could ever desire, from excursions and training sessions to workshops and presentations, as well as an impressive Concours d’Elégance and, of course, festive banquets in the company of kindred Porsche spirits.

This event, the 59th time the Porsche Parade has been held, was its first return to the US West Coast since 2007. Around 1,200 registrations were received in Mon-terey, California, which adds up to around 2,400 attendees – making the Porsche Parade in Monterey the largest ever held.

And, of course, most participants arrived in their very own, much-loved Porsche: 1,122 vehicles from all corners of the United States convened in this city on the Pacific coast for the week-long event.

Porsche also had any number of represen-tatives at the parade from its official level as well. Numerous departments – Porsche Exclusive and Porsche Tequipment, Porsche Classic, Porsche Drivers’ Selec-tion by Porsche Design and Porsche De-sign, as well as Porsche Customer Rela-tions and Porsche Consulting – united to create an outstanding world of Porsche while providing a framework for the entire event. And even a member of the Porsche family was present: Hans-Peter Porsche happily embraced the opportunity this year to join in and mingle with the Club

members, swapping stories with them and even signing the odd vehicle or two.

The Porsche Parade was inaugurated on 15th of June with a welcome party in the Custom House Plaza in Monterey, at which – unperturbed by the rather cool weather – more than 1,200 guests enjoyed the privilege of witnessing Hans-Peter Porsche unveiling the very first Porsche Boxster GTS for the American market.

The first highlight followed the next day, with the Concours d’Elégance. 225 partici-pating Porsche vehicles could be marvelled at on the Del Monte Golf Course at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Spa, the main venue for the Porsche Parade. Moreover, a major Porsche Brand World Display provided the next sensation, where the entire model range of Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) and numerous products made by the company divisions present were on show, as well as a special

Feeling very Porsche:Hans-Peter Porsche was also visibly delighted by the event – and even gave some quite

unusual autographs.

exhibition on the Porsche 911 RSR, a tribute to the Le Mans weekend one week before the parade.

The vehicles that won the Concours d’Elégance were awarded their prizes on the following evening at the Concours Banquet. Following a reception in the Hospitality Area of the Porsche Brand World Display, the banquet was held in the Hyatt “Club Pavilion” tent, where the winning vehicles, a Porsche 911 Targa and a Porsche Macan from PCNA, as well as the two Le Mans vehicles, the Porsche 919 Hybrid and Porsche 911 RSR, were on show.

The rest of the Parade week held many more treats in store for the Porsche en-thusiasts in attendance. The motor sport ambitions of the participants in the parade were, for example, intensified by the Auto-

cross Competition held on the grounds of the adjacent Marina Municipal Airport. And the Time Speed Distance Rally, a four-hour, beginner’s level rally following a training session given by the TSD Rally School, also offered participants the expe-rience of driving a rally in their very own vehicle at the same time as discovering the area surrounding Monterey.

Along with many driving-related activities, a diverse accompanying program was or-

ganised, with events ranging from the Parade Tech Quiz and its subsequent Tech Academy, where expert speakers from Porsche and other companies shared an understanding of technology-specific Porsche knowledge with the interested lis-teners, to a golf tournament on the Del Monte Golf Course, and even sporting activities like the Porsche Parade 5K Run were held.

The true highlight of the Porsche Parade was the parade of participating vehicles through Monterey and environs on Satur-day, 21st of June, which, as always, caused a sensation and visibly delighted the onlookers.

The Porsche Club of America proved to be more than thrilled with the way the 59th Porsche Parade unfolded. The biggest Porsche Parade of this type to date de-lighted each and every participant, not to

Milestones:The parade caused a sensation – due to its size and all the different outings (left). Hans-Peter Porsche represented the Porsche family. He is shown here with

mention the organisers. In addition, the parade provided a forum for the first meet-ings to prepare the rapidly approaching 60th anniversary of the Club. In the mean-time, the preparations for this are running at full speed; the anniversary parade will be held from the 21st to 27th of June 2015 in French Lick, Indiana.

Porsche AG and Porsche Cars North Amer-ica praised the way the Parade Week was realised. In particular, the enormous popu-larity enjoyed by the Brand World Display and the Le Mans racing car exhibition, as well as the numerous superb talks, such as the ones held by Dieter Landenberger (Porsche-Museum) and Sascha Glaesner

(Porsche Experience Centre), left every-one feeling satisfied. The presence of Hans-Peter Porsche and numerous Porsche managers and employees accen-tuated the inestimable significance that large events like this have for the Porsche company.

Porsche Community Management would like to thank all participants in the 59th Porsche Parade for an unforgettable week in Monterey, and is already eagerly await-ing the major anniversary next year.

apart from this? Just as in other schools. Except, perhaps, for the clear seating plan.

A family reunion:24 Guatemalan Porsche vehicles and their owners enjoying each other’s company. An informal, familiar atmosphere all day.

The famous Lago de Atitlán, which can more or less be translated as “place with a lot of water”, is located 145 km west of Guatemala City. This spectacular, cold blue lake is located deep in a crater formed in ancient times by a volcanic eruption. The lake is still surrounded by three large volcanoes – Atitlán, Tolimán and San Pedro. The lake and its pictur-esque surroundings were declared a na-tional park in 1955, making it not only a popular destination for excursions, but also providing a way for many of the in-habitants of the towns surrounding it to make a living and preserve their tradi-tions. The German explorer Alexander

von Humboldt was the first famous Euro-pean to describe the lake as the “most beautiful in the world”.

The lake provided a destination for the Porsche Club Guatemala on 10th of Au-gust 2014. Twenty-four members drove along breathtaking stretches of road in their Porsche sports cars to get there.

Following in the footsteps of their forefa-thers, the participants also stopped for a break in Tecpán, the first permanent Span-ish settlement in Central America, founded on 25th of July 1524 by the Spanish con-queror Pedro de Alvarado.

A catamaran tour and a traditional lunch were also on the programme, before the participants set out on the return journey, rounding off a great day spent together.

Porsche Community Management is de-lighted that the affinity for the Porsche brand and its products is being lived in the same way all over the world. Includ-ing Guatemala.
