Editor’s Leer Dear Everyone,

Firstly, I must apologise for the lateness of the September is-sue. The newsletter was ready for printing on October 1st and actu-ally went on line….then we had problems with the printer. I realise that some copies had ugly lines going through a few of the pages. We did a some spare copies, so if anyone would like an “unblemished “one, please give me a ring or send an email. Thanks as usual to all those who have sent articles in to me. We had a newsletter meeting earlier in the month and discussed whether or not we should be thinking about a bi monthly newsletter. After much consideration, we decided to leave things as they are for now. Again, I appeal to anyone who has a news or indeed some-thing of interest, regarding our village to get in touch. You don’t have to write anything, if you don’t want; just let me have the facts and I will attempt to write an article around it. Also, if you have a new neighbour, please let me know and then we can write a welcome in the newsletter. There are lots or activities in the village and I’m sure new comers would like to read about them. Last month we had an advert from Trish Arnold who does pilates classes in many of the villages. I popped along to the Kil-ham class several months ago, following a leaflet drop. I am not the most agile of people and thought that it may be an hour of sheer torture! However I was wrong. You do have to work hard, but only at your own level. Trish, pilates teacher, always stresses that you only do the actions that are good for you. At least I can now get on the floor to play with my grandchildren...a great improvement after my hip injury 2 years ago. Admittedly, I don’t leap up afterwards, but can revert to the standing position without too much fuss! It is at 9.30 on Monday mornings, so if anyone wants to come along with me, please give me a ring or email. This month’s cover photo features the new village notice board, sponsored by the Parish Council, and professionally made by Albert Pritchard with help from his son in law Alan Byfield. Right. That’s enough from me. Hope to see everyone at the bonfire on Doug’s field on November 5th.

A word from our curate, James Dear Friends It is getting to autumn and the leaves are falling and the days are growing shorter. This time of year is often a time for reflection which for many causes a tear to be shed. Remembrance Sunday often reveals a pub-lic expression of grief and thankfully these days weeping in considered to be a positive thing to do; to show how we feel and not be ashamed to do so. Tears in the Christian faith are also a positive way in which we can express things that words cannot and in the Bible there are many example of tears being shed to express a deep emo-tion. Our Lord Jesus wept on many occasions; at the home of his friend Lazarus, as he entered Jerusalem, and in the Garden of Gethsemane. Tears are unique; in the Eastern tradition of the Church tears were accorded priority, perhaps on account of the empha-sis on the heart as a vessel of the Holy Spirit. They are a silent way of learning and loving; a positive thing because as well as tears being seen as way of surrendering, of dying, it is always in the context and in the hope of new life and resurrection. They are a way of embracing darkness in order to receive light. And the source, the object of these tears is the light of the resurrec-tion that shines beyond the cross, transforming sorrow into joy. Tears mark the tension and transition between being and becoming. When we weep, we stop; tears are an opportunity to slow down and to stop, to be silent and simply to be. They are a tangi-ble manifestation of our conscious contact with God. Do not be ashamed therefore to shed a tear; our Saviour wasn’t because through tears, we receive the light of Christ with-in; we are en-lightened; through tears, we receive the life of the Spirit within; we are in-spired; Then, tears – like Heaven itself –flow from within as the surprise of new life, marking the dawn al-so of new light. Thanks be to God.

Volunteers Needed To Support Our Defibrillator

As part of the support for our defibrillator, we have got a scheme called VETS (Village Emergency Telephone Service). A third of all 999 calls are from lone rescuers, so getting help to them quickly is important. VETS is a community run system, and enables up to 10 neighbours to assist pending the arrival of the emergency services. For instance, if you are on your own with the person having a heart attack, a call to VETS means someone else may be able to collect the defibrillator and bring it to you. The VETS system works like this:

We need some more people to volunteer to be on the tele-phone list for the VETS scheme. If you are happy to be on the phone list, please contact Jen Hobson, Parish Clerk, phone: 07542874957, Email: [email protected].

The next Parish Council Meeting is to be held on Wednesday 13th December at 7.30pm in the village hall.
