The Lord does not tell the scribe anything new ~

anything that the man does not already know.

But when the voice of the Word speaks to him,

the scribe suddenly listens to his own heart in a new

way, with new and sensitive attentiveness. He cries

out to Christ, You are right ~ to love God is worth

more than all burnt offerings! because that truth

has been verified in the infallible experience of his

own heart. He takes to heart the Word that forms

his heart. Christ the High Priest is always

able to save those who approach God

with such docility and love. ~Magnificat

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

Pope Francis, in his message for the Second

World Day of the Poor (33rd Sunday in Ordinary

Time), writes:

When we find ways of drawing near to the

poor, we know that the primacy belongs to God,

who opens our eyes and hearts to conversion. The

poor do not need self-promoters, but a love that

knows how to remain hidden and not think about

all the good it has been able to do. At the center

must always be the Lord and the poor. Anyone de-

sirous of serving is an instrument in Gods hands, a

means of manifesting his saving presence.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Develop-

ment (CCHD) seeks to serve the disadvantaged by

funding initiatives that strive to break the cycle of

poverty that plagues so many in our community

and nation. Next weekend the Diocese of Palm

Beach will take part in the annual collection to ben-

efit the programs and services of the Catholic Cam-

paign for Human Development (CCHD) as we an-

ticipate the commemoration of the World Day of

the Poor on November 18th.

Your spiritual and financial support of the

CCHD helps those in need to better themselves,

their families and their community. May God bless

you with every grace and peace and may our

Blessed Mother always intercede for you.

With gratitude for your continued generosity

and every prayerful wish, I am

Sincerely yours in Christ,

367. What are the sources of the morality of human acts?

The morality of human acts depends on three sources: the object chosen, either a true or appar-

ent good; the intention of the subject who acts, that is, the purpose for which the subject per-

forms the act; and the circumstances of the act, which include its consequences.

Week 33

Gabriel weighs over 3 pounds and may weigh

about 7 pounds at birth. My brain is growing

very fast.

Im starting to have regular sleep and awake

time. I have dreams, but I keep them secret be-

tween God and me. Im using my four senses of

vision, hearing, taste and touch. I try to stretch

out but there is not enough room. Mom is plan-

ning a Baby Shower. I dont know why, its al-

ways wet in here.

Regular gatherings are on most Tuesday Evenings at 7:00

p.m. in the Parish Center in Room 8.

If one of the following descriptions fits YOU YOURE INVITED!

· FULLY INITIATED CATHOLIC who may have last studied the faith many years ago and would like to

update your knowledge of our Catholic faith.

· BAPTIZED CATHOLIC WHO HAS NOT COMPLETED YOUR SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION:

becoming Catholic.

· NON-BAPTIZED PERSON who would like to learn more about potentially becoming Catholic.

The early stages of RCIA are known as the inquiry phase and a non-Catholic engaging in this part of the pro-

cess is not making a commitment to become Catholic. Regular gatherings will begin on Tuesday, September

Primary Responsibilities of CitizensPrimary Responsibilities of Citizens Pay Taxes, Defend our Country, To Vote!Pay Taxes, Defend our Country, To Vote!

the targeting of noncombatants in acts of terror

or war, and racism, as they too are severe violations

of human rights and dignity. Related concerns are ex-

cessive consumption of

material goods, unjust

discrimination and the

narrowing redefinition of

religious freedom which

threatens both individual

conscience and the free-

dom of the Church to

serve those in need.

Is there going to be any-

one we can vote for?

We are often forced to

choose between two inad-

equate and flawed political agendas. It can be quite

difficult to find candidates who align with our con-

sciences on all of the key moral issues. This is why

the virtue of prudence is necessary. This virtue helps

us deliberate over the choices before us! To deter-

mine, in light of Church teaching and our formed con-

sciences, who is most deserving of our support. In a

world of imperfect choices, we must strive to make

the best choice possible.

The Church challenges us to vote for what is best for

society and all of its members, particularly those least

able to speak up for or defend themselves. The great

privilege of democracy is that we, as citizens and reli-

gious believers, can have a voice in the direction of

our country by voting for the common good; this is

both a right and a responsibility. The great privilege

of being Catholic is that we have a community of

faith and a body of teaching, going back to Christ

Himself, that can help us make good decisions in the

voting booth.

The direct and intentional destruction of innocent

human life from the moment of conception until

natural death is always wrong and is not just one

issue among many. It must always be opposed. ~Excerpted from Our Sunday Visitor

Does the Church tell me whom I should vote for?

Catholics are to use their judgment and follow their

consciences as they apply the teachings of our Lord

Jesus Christ and the core

faith values to the choices

they make in the voting

booth. We need to evalu-

ate the issues and candi-

dates in the light of our

Catholic faith.

How does my Catholic

faith help me

to make these choices?

To follow ones con-

science is often misun-

derstood as something that

allows us to do whatever we want, or as following the

feeling we have that something is right or wrong.

But our faith teaches us that conscience is the voice

of God resounding in the human heart, revealing the

truth to us and calling us to do what is good while

shunning what is evil.

Is there anything Catholics must always reject?

We may choose different ways to respond to com-

pelling social problems, but we cannot differ on our

moral obligation to help build a more just and peace-

ful world through morally acceptable means, so that

the weak and vulnerable are protected and human

rights and dignity are defended. We must always

reject and oppose intrinsically evil actions of any

sort. Acts such as the taking of innocent human life

are so deeply flawed that they are always incompati-

ble with love of God and neighbor.

It is clear that one absolutely may not vote for a can-

didate who favors a policy promoting an intrinsically

evil act, such as abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide,

human cloning or the destructive research on human

embryos, deliberately subjecting workers or the poor

to subhuman living conditions, redefining marriage in

ways that violate its essential meaning, or racist be-

havior. The church condemns genocide, torture,

The moral teaching of our Church is about more than prohibitions. We Catholics are encouraged to

respond to the basic needs of human beings ~ food, shelter, health care, education and employment.

We are called to welcome refugees and immigrants, defend religious freedom, support marriage

and family and protect the environment.

Devotions to Our Blessed MotherDevotions to Our Blessed MotherDevotions to Our Blessed Mother

Most Holy Trinity ~ Father, Son, and Holy Spirit ~

in union with the Blessed Virgin Mary, we adore Your Majesty and

acknowledge Your supreme eternal dominion and authority.

Most Holy Trinity, we place the United States of America

into the hands of Mary Immaculate in order that she may

present the country to You. Through the intercession of Mary,

have mercy on the Catholic Church in America.

Have mercy on our President and on all the officers of our government.

Protect family life in our nation.

Grant the precious gift of many vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

Have mercy on the sick, the poor, the tempted, and all who are in need.

Mary Immaculate Virgin, Our Mother, Patroness of our land,

we honor you and ask your maternal protection and care for us.

Obtain for us the graces we need to live and die according to the Will of your Divine Son. Amen.

May your valiant Spouse, St. Joseph, with the holy Angels and Saints,

assist you and us in renewing the face of the earth. Amen.
