PurPose statementThis symposium has been planned to offer the practicing pediatrician an opportunity to learn about recent advances and state-of-the-art diagnoses and therapy for common problems encountered in daily practice. At the completion of this symposium, pediatricians and other pediatric health care professionals will have enhanced their skills and competence in patient care, medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills and systems-based practice.

target audience The program is designed for pediatricians, primary care physicians and other interested pediatric health care professionals.

Learning oBJectiVes At the completion of this symposium the participants should be able to:• Identify the latest outbreaks of mosquito borne diseases and how to diagnose them, and address the potential for spread in the US mainland• Review the association of Zika virus infection with microcephaly in babies• Identify when to suspect FPIES in an infant with gastrointestinal symptoms, describe management strategies and identify the most common food triggers• Describe recent research that links the developing intestinal microbiome to preterm delivery, neonatal morbidities and metabolic problems in adulthood and analyze newly developing knowledge of how the developing microbiota interact with the host• Discuss how to use technology in dermatologic diagnoses• Define and differentiate developmental screening, surveillance, and evaluation • Describe the processes that underlie problems in development, and identify patterns of developmental delay• Recognize common non-epileptic paroxysmal spells and their treatments• Identify when to suspect and refer patients for EOE, understand it’s diagnosis, and differentiate the efficacy of various dietary and medical therapies• Analyze the need for special formulas depending on special infant circumstance, describe the composition of these special formulas, and clarify the evidence for the use of non-lactose containing formulas, soy formulas, products with additives such as DHA• Recognize the Female Athlete Triad/RED-S and understand concussion management for the female athlete• Review the epidemiology and clinical impact of genital HPV infections and apply present HPV vaccine recommendations• Assess new insights into pathophysiology and how they affect management of atopic dermatitis• Formulate a differential diagnosis for the presenting complaints of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, recognize ADHD within the spectrum of developmental-behavioral disorders,

and diagnose associated co-morbid conditions• Recognize which children are at risk of nutritional deficiency and the associated skin manifestations• Summarize various gastrointestinal diseases and review the efficacy of dietary restriction therapies for these diseases• Recognize and manage common anxiety disorders and review evidence-based treatments and guidelines for referral• Apply evidence-based guidelines for preventative and treatment modalities in the newborn nursery for the management of GBS, Herpes and Sepsis and review the controversies• Recognize autism spectrum disorders (ASD) within the spectrum and continuum of developmental-behavioral disorders, and describe the developmental and behavioral profiles of children with ASD• Integrate newer and/or changed recommendations from the AAP Red Book and understand the process for AAP updates

PurPose statementThis symposium has been planned to offer the practicing pediatrician an opportunity to learn about recent advances and state-of-the-art diagnoses and therapy for common problems encountered in daily practice. At the completion of this symposium, pediatricians and other pediatric health care professionals will have enhanced their skills and competence in patient care, medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills and systems-based practice.

target audience The program is designed for pediatricians, primary care physicians and other interested pediatric health care professionals.

Learning oBJectiVes At the completion of this symposium the participants should be able to:• Identify the latest outbreaks of mosquito borne diseases and how to diagnose them, and address the potential for spread in the US mainland• Review the association of Zika virus infection with microcephaly in babies• Identify when to suspect FPIES in an infant with gastrointestinal symptoms, describe management strategies and identify the most common food triggers• Describe recent research that links the developing intestinal microbiome to preterm delivery, neonatal morbidities and metabolic problems in adulthood and analyze newly developing knowledge of how the developing microbiota interact with the host• Discuss how to use technology in dermatologic diagnoses• Define and differentiate developmental screening, surveillance, and evaluation • Describe the processes that underlie problems in development, and identify patterns of developmental delay• Recognize common non-epileptic paroxysmal spells and their treatments• Identify when to suspect and refer patients for EOE, understand it’s diagnosis, and differentiate the efficacy of various dietary and medical therapies• Analyze the need for special formulas depending on special infant circumstance, describe the composition of these special formulas, and clarify the evidence for the use of non-lactose containing formulas, soy formulas, products with additives such as DHA• Recognize the Female Athlete Triad/RED-S and understand concussion management for the female athlete• Review the epidemiology and clinical impact of genital HPV infections and apply present HPV vaccine recommendations• Assess new insights into pathophysiology and how they affect management of atopic dermatitis• Formulate a differential diagnosis for the presenting complaints of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, recognize ADHD within the spectrum of developmental-behavioral disorders,

and diagnose associated co-morbid conditions• Recognize which children are at risk of nutritional deficiency and the associated skin manifestations• Summarize various gastrointestinal diseases and review the efficacy of dietary restriction therapies for these diseases• Recognize and manage common anxiety disorders and review evidence-based treatments and guidelines for referral• Apply evidence-based guidelines for preventative and treatment modalities in the newborn nursery for the management of GBS, Herpes and Sepsis and review the controversies• Recognize autism spectrum disorders (ASD) within the spectrum and continuum of developmental-behavioral disorders, and describe the developmental and behavioral profiles of children with ASD• Integrate newer and/or changed recommendations from the AAP Red Book and understand the process for AAP updates
