PASTOR’S NOTES CONTINUED

Please pray at Mass and in your Rosary for the

election on Tuesday, too. Our country and religious

liberty need it. As Mother Teresa said, “Any country

that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to

love, but to use violence to get what they want. That

is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is

abortion."

Our Youth Group got off to great start last Friday.

We have two young mothers running the group so

they can use a hand from other young adults or

young couples. We need to keep our young people

interested and active so they continue to grow in the

love of Christ and His Church which nourishes us

through the sacraments and its effects of love of God

reflected in love of one another and our neighbor.

Thanks once again to all our parish groups who do so

much to keep our parish going. If you don’t belong,

please look into our groups and ministries and

consider joining. Regardless, let us all let Christ’s

love shine through us to all we meet in public and at

work, especially those who are in need or may be

difficult to interact with.

In joyful union with the suffering of

Jesus and His sorrowful Mother,

Fr. Frank Samoylo

CATHOLIC SCHOOL CORNER

Considering a Catholic Elementary School

for your child?

Come and visit and see the difference a Catholic

school education provides. We are blessed to have

an excellent school right here in our parish. St.

Columbanus School serves children in grades PK

through 8. Plan a visit on TOURING TUESDAY,

November 15th from 9am to 11am or by

appointment. TOURING TUESDAYS are universal

open houses held at Catholic elementary schools

throughout the Archdiocese of New York.

Reservations are required, to RSVP please call 646-

794-2885. We look forward to welcoming you!

During the last few months with all the personal sur-

prises, I have tried to continue running the parish

from my upstairs office. We have had our parking

lot re-sealed and relined and the steps at the Martyrs

Church have been replaced. One area I have forgot-

ten has been the Cardinal’s Appeal. We are only

$2,100 short of our goal for this year. Since our goal

was raised several years ago we have not been able

to reach it. We are so close this year—which is

about to end—I hope if you haven’t contributed yet

you will make a gift to help us attain our goal. Eve-

rything we have and are is a gift from God. Let us

give back to Him what is His and know God will not

be outdone in generosity. Thank you.

Once again I would like to thank everyone for your

prayers. I finished my third round of chemotherapy

on October 27 and for the first time before it I didn’t

need a transfusion or shots to raise my white blood

count, so I know St. Teresa of Calcutta and your

prayers are helping me to progress against my can-

cer.

Prayer is a very powerful but underutilized tool we

have with God and I remind you that we should con-

stantly pray for all the sick in our families and parish

(we list the sick in the bulletin).

As we enter November, having honored All Saints

on November 1, we remember November is the

month of the Holy Souls (November 2nd was All

Souls’ Day). The greatest prayer we can offer at any

time or for anyone is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

It is one of two times a year a priest is allowed with-

out special permission to offer 3 Masses in one day.

So I would encourage you to have Masses offered for

your loved ones or friends who have died but also for

those who are living who may be ill or suffering in

any way. At the parish Masses we mention the in-

tention each day so all who are attending Mass can

unite their prayers with yours in our bond among the

communion of saints and as members of the Body of

Christ.
