HOLY FATHER APPOINTS REVEREND JOSEPH SIEGEL AS
NEW AUXILIARY BISHOP FOR THE DIOCESE OF JOLIET
His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, today named Fr. Joseph Siegel as a new auxiliary Bishop forthe Diocese of Joliet.
In making the announcement Bishop J. Peter Sartain said: I was delighted to learn that PopeBenedict had named Fr. Joseph Siegel as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Joliet. Fr. Siegel isa native son with deep roots in the city of Joliet and the entire diocese, and he has served anumber of parishes with great love since his ordination to the priesthood in 1988. He is deeplyrespected by his parishioners and brother priests, and he will bring many gifts to this new minis-try. I personally look forward to working in collaboration with him in the pastoral care of our peo-ple. I express my gratitude to Pope Benedict for this appointment and to Fr. Siegel for accepting with generosity and hu-mility a surprising call from God once again.
He will be ordained Bishop on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet.
Bishop-Elect Siegel will hold the title of auxiliary bishop, meaning he will assist Bishop Sartain in the pastoral administra-tion of the Diocese of Joliet. He will receive the office of teaching, governing and sanctifying as a bishop. He will exercisehis ministry in union with the Pope and his fellow bishops throughout the world. An auxiliary bishop is also given a
titular see since he is not a diocesan bishop. The titular see is usually the name of a diocese somewhere in the worldthat has been suppressed at some time in the past (i.e., absorbed into another diocese.) It is an honorary title given tothe Bishop to remember in prayer those who have gone before us. Bishop Siegel's titular diocese will be Pupiana, north-ern Africa, in modern-day Tunisia, near the ancient city of Carthage.
Bishop-elect Siegel commented: I was both humbled and honored when I received the unexpected news that PopeBenedict had named me to serve as auxiliary bishop of Joliet. I am deeply grateful to our Holy Father and Bishop Sar-tain and I pray that I will be worthy of the trust they have placed in me as I strive to be a faithful shepherd after the heartof Jesus. I ask for the prayers of our clergy, religious and laity that I may serve the people of this Diocese with love, wis-dom and courage.
Fr. Siegel, 46, was born in Joliet, Illinois and was raised on a farm in Lockport Township. He was baptized at the Cathe-dral of St. Raymond Nonnatus and attended the parish grammar school. He attended St. Charles Borromeo HighSchool Seminary in Romeoville from 1977-1980 and continued his studies at St. Meinrad Seminary College in Indiana,
where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in history in 1984. He completed his seminary formation at thePontifical North American College in Rome from 1984-1988, where he earned his Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology(STB) cum laude from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1987, and continued his theological studies at the PontificalUniversity of St. Thomas Aquinas. He was ordained to the diaconate by William Cardinal Baum at the Basilica of St. Pe-ter in Vatican City on April 14, 1988. Fr. Siegel returned home to be ordained to the priesthood on June 4, 1988 by theMost Rev. Joseph Imesch at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet. After ordination, Fr. Siegel completed hisstudies in systematic theology at the University of St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein, IL, earning a Licentiate in SacredTheology (STL) in 1990.
Fr. Siegel was assigned as parochial vicar at St. Isidore Parish, Bloomingdale, St. Mary Immaculate Parish, Plainfield,St. Mary Nativity Parish, Joliet and the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, where he also served as diocesan master ofceremonies. He has been pastor at Visitation Parish in Elmhurst since 2004.
In addition to his parish ministry, Fr. Siegel has also served the diocese in many capacities. He has been a member of
the Presbyteral Council for nine years, including three years as chairman and was appointed to the Diocesan Board ofConsulters. He has been Director of Continuing Formation for Priests, a member of the Diocesan Vocation Board, thePriest Personnel Board and served as the Dean of Eastern Will County. With the Catholic Conference of Illinois, heserved on the Executive Committee as a priest representative and was chairman of the Catholics for Life Department.Father is currently chair of the Steering Committee for the Joliet Diocesan Year of the Eucharist and Eucharistic Con-gress and is a member of the Bishops Respect Life Advisory Board. He is a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and amember of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher.

Flu Season
During the cold and flu season, parishioners are welcome
to give a friendly nod instead of a handshake if they pre-fer. Please try to be sensitive to the choices of your
neighbor during the sign of peace. Also, taking from thechalice is an option - but not a requirement. When wereceive the host, it is the whole and entire Christ re-
ceived. Receiving from the cup is referred to as a fullersymbol of the communion we share in Christ, but not
necessary for full communion.

2008-09 Financial Report to the Parish
The parish financial report and stewardship report of services ending our fiscal year of June 30 2009 can be found onthe next page of this bulletin. Financially it was a challenging year as economic issues of the country affected our parishfinances as well as many other parishes in the area. We ended the year with a deficit of 59,808 and in addition we havea debt of 78,215 owed to the diocese.
We can assure you expense control continues to be a focus. All expenses are reviewed and re-reviewed by the costaccount managers for each department. As stewards of the Parishs financial resources, members of the Finance Com-mittee must personally review and sign our Parishs annual financial reports a very high level diligence and oversight ispracticed here. In addition, Christ the King Parish was audited by the diocese last year and passed.
Overall expenses were within expected ranges. Church salary increase reflects a transfer of salaries previously placedunder school and religious ed. Our mortgage debt is $1,351,030, placed by the diocese through Harris Bank. Our mort-gage is set up with a minimum payment due of $9279 per month however this would leave a significant balloon paymentafter 15 years. Our hope is increased green envelope donations will allow us to pay down the debt on an acceleratedschedule.
With the restructuring of the school we are optimistic we will be in better position for 2009/10 year. We are committed tooperating in a fiscally prudent manner while serving the needs of our parishioners. Focus will be meeting our necessaryexpenses, paying off parish debt as well as providing opportunities for parishioners to assist the less fortunate.
In light of the economic times, we have delayed our annual stewardship appeal to after the New Year. However, in themeantime prayerfully consider if it would be possible to provide additional support at this time. Perhaps consider if usingour automatic electronic donation offering would work for you. We now have the capability to split out white, green andgold offerings. Information and the form can be downloaded on the CTK website. www.ctklombard.org
Please let us offer a word of gratitude and thanks for the generous support of those who continue to contribute to ourparish. The point is not how much you donate, but that you contribute regularly. Your financial contributions, and the timeand talent that so many of you share with our parish community, are greatly appreciated. Again, thank you.

Update on the
Annual Stewardship Appeal
Each year, in the fall, Christ the King Parish,as other diocesan parishes reaches out to itsmembers for the Annual Stewardship Appeal.
Most parishioners have typically been veryresponsive to this appeal. However, the cur-rent economic conditions are difficult and theholidays are approaching quickly. Therefore, after consulting and giving our recommenda-tion to Father Peter, the Finance Council willpostpone the Appeal until early 2010.
This has been a challenging year financiallyfor many and we would like to take this oppor-tunity to thank you for your generous giving.Christ the Kings existence over these fiftyyears is dependent upon the financial gener-osity of its members. It is our hope that every
household 1300 registered will contribute tothe White envelopes which are used to fundall the daily operational needs. The Greenenvelope money is applied to the mortgage, while the Gold envelope donations are setaside for extraordinary expenses.
Just this past summer we came together as aparish to fully fund the purchase and installa-tion of a brand new air conditioner for thechurch. This is a perfect display of the gener-osity that so many in our parish possess. Weare now able to worship comfortably during
the hot summer months. We ask that until ourAppeal in February, that each householdstrive to give a little extra, as we prepare forthe snow plowing season.
Thank you again for all that you do. We trulyare a blessed parish.
Sincerely,
The Finance [email protected]
