1 Coasts and islands, listen to me; distant peoples, pay attention. The Lord called me

before I was born. He named me while I was in my mother’s womb.

2 He made my words like a sharp sword; he hid me in the shadow of his hand.

He made me like a sharpened arrow; he hid me in his quiver.

3 He said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified.”

4 But I myself said: I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and futility;

yet my vindication is with the Lord, and my reward is with my God.

5 And now, says the Lord, who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob

back to him so that Israel might be gathered to him; for I am honored in the sight of the Lord,

and my God is my strength—

6 he says, “It is not enough for you to be my servant raising up the tribes of Jacob and restoring

the protected ones of Israel. I will also make you a light for the nations, to be my salvation

to the ends of the earth.”

7 This is what the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, says to one who is despised,

to one abhorred by people, to a servant of rulers: “Kings will see, princes will stand up,

and they will all bow down because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel

—and he has chosen you.”

8 This is what the Lord says: I will answer you in a time of favor, and I will help you in the day

of salvation. I will keep you, and I will appoint you to be a covenant for the people, to restore

the land, to make them possess the desolate inheritances,

9 saying to the prisoners, “Come out,” and to those who are in darkness, “Show yourselves.”

They will feed along the pathways, and their pastures will be on all the barren heights.

10 They will not hunger or thirst, the scorching heat or sun will not strike them; for their

compassionate one will guide them, and lead them to springs.

11 I will make all my mountains into a road, and my highways will be raised up.

12 See, these will come from far away, from the north and from the west, and from the land of

Sinim.

13 Shout for joy, you heavens! Earth, rejoice! Mountains break into joyful shouts!

For the Lord has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.

God’s Word - Devoted to Him

Who would, after seeking the King’s palace, be content to stand in the door,

when he is invited in to dwell in the King’s presence,

and share with Him in all the glory of His royal life?

Andrew Murray

Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions. . . . And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:4–6)

This is our rightful place—“seated . . . with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,” yet seated and still. But how few of us actually experience this! In fact, most of us believe it is impossible to sit still “in the heavenly realms” while living our everyday life in a world so full of turmoil.

Oh, we believe it may be possible to visit these “heavenly realms” on Sundays or now and then during times of great spiritual emphasis and praise, but to actually be “seated” there all day, every day, is a completely different matter. Yet it is clear from the Scriptures that it is meant not only for Sundays but for weekdays as well.

A quiet spirit is of priceless value when performing outward activities. Nothing so greatly hinders the work of God’s unseen spiritual forces, upon which our success in everything truly depends, as the spirit of unrest and anxiety.

There is tremendous power in stillness. A great believer once said, “All things come to him who knows how to trust and to be silent.” This fact is rich with meaning, and a true understanding of it would greatly change our ways of working. Instead of continuing our restless striving, we would “sit down” inwardly before the Lord, allowing the divine forces of His Spirit to silently work out the means to accomplish our goals and aspirations.

You may not see or feel the inner workings of His silent power, but rest assured it is always mightily at work. And it will work for you, if you will only quiet your spirit enough to be carried along by the current of its power. Hannah Whitall Smith

There is a point of rest At the great center of the cyclone’s force,

A silence at its secret source; A little child might slumber undisturbed,

Without the ruffle of one fair curl, In that strange, central calm, amid the mighty whirl.

Make it your business to learn to be peaceful and safe in God through every situation.

Your money talks… what does it say?

“Come now, you rich…” With these four words James begins his discussion of Biblical stewardship (James 5:1-6). Many of us are prone to skip over this paragraph, erroneously feeling that it does not apply to us. We think this passage is for the men and women who live in the multi-million dollar homes on the water. We may think, “Yes, Lord, give it to those rich snobs!” There are basically two reactions to James’ discussion of money. Those without money somehow feel that they are more spiritual than those who have money. Well, they are not. On the other hand, those who have money somehow feel as if they have to be defensive. Well, they don’t. These verses apply to everyone, for being “rich” is relative. Compared to the rest of the world, almost everyone reading this book is filthy rich. Most of us have automobiles with power steering. We can afford to buy hamburgers for lunch. Most of the world’s people cannot. I wish I could take each of you out into the African bush a few miles from Mombasa, Kenya, in East Africa. I have preached in some churches there. It is not uncommon for three or four thousand people to walk miles to attend the services. They sit on the ground, not on pews. If their pastor were to preach on James 5:1-6 this coming Sunday, they would be thinking about people in America who make the minimum wage when they heard the words, “Now listen you rich people…” From Money Talks by O.S. Hawkins
