Tent City MattersOf the 500 blankets made during the Blanket
Blitz, 200 wen t to Tent City last w eekend . Tent
City is an advocacy program w hich h elps the
homeless get medical, legal, and other services to
help them OUT of homelessness.
For some, it is hard to comprehend w hy we all
do w hat we d o. This email arrived at Tent City
offices a few days ago:.
“I vowed last year at Tent City, this year I
wou ld be able to serve the homeless and not be
one of them. Through God an d A.A., I have
achieved that goal. Today I’m clean and sober!! I
saw Michele Ross’video and everything she said
is so true. I wond er if you all know wh at an im-
pact you have on us? Last year was AWESOME.
It was the start of my road to recovery and the
start of being a productive part of society. The
comp assion, dignity and k indness I was shown
last year will forever leave my soul indebted.
The only way to pay it back is to come back
October 31 and pray I can touch even one lost
human being.
Please let me know wh at I can do to help. I
wou ld love to just “m ingle” amongst m y former
“peeps” and maybe tell them m y story. Or just
LISTEN. They MATTER.
Christmas flow er memo rialsEach Ch ristmas, we decorate the church and
cloister with flowers and other decorations.
Those wh o wish to contribute should send the
names of donors and those being remembered or
honored by Friday, December 19, in order to list
them in the Christmas liturgy booklet.
We ask don ors to give the full Christian n ame

Smith, rather than Mrs. John Smith). $25 is the
usual gift but larger donations are especially
welcomed. An envelope is enclosed in this issue

Special Parish Mee ting N oticeWhen: Sunday, November 30, 2008 immediately
following the 10:45 service, in th e n ave.
Why : To consider amend ing the Parish Bylaws.
What: The Vestry believes that given the current
size of our community, it is reasonable and
app ropriate to reduce the num ber of vestry
members from 12 to 9 (i.e., 3 classes of 3
members). For the past 18 months, the Vestry has
intentionally operated with 11 members, because
of a lack of nominees and to experience operating
as a smaller leadership team. Changing the size of
the vestry requires amend ing the Parish Bylaw s,
wh ich mu st be voted on at a parish meeting.
In ad dition, counsel is reviewing the Mod el
Bylaws r ecently offered by th e Diocese of Ohio,
and may recommend other minor amendments to
Trinity’s Bylaws intended only to conform them to
these Model Bylaws.
Questions in advan ce of this meeting can bedirected to any m ember of the Vestry.
Bishop Hollingsw orth to visi t
November 23Our annual Episcopal visitation will occur on
Sund ay, Nov. 23rd with Bishop Mar k
Hollingsworth. Please join us on th is day to
welcome Mark. Note that we will have only one
service at 10:45 am on that da te.
N ominations sou ght for vestryAre you a p erson of vision w ho d ares to dream
as big as God's creation? Are you w illing to ma ke
and follow through on commitments? Do you
have specialized skills that might be helpful as we
work tow ard ou r vision and mission? If so, then
we'd like to hear from you.
The vestry is a small group of people who help
to discern the vision toward wh ich God is
draw ing our commu nity, articulate and
comm un icate that vision, hold ou r commu nityaccountable for the realization of that vision, and
keep the mission of the Church and of our
individual congregation clearly before our
community.
We believe we have been given the resources
needed to do the job God has called u s to. Our
leaders identify and allocate those resources, and
lead our comm unity in celebrating an d giving
thanks for those resources.
In 2009, we expect there to be only two vestry
positions to be filled. This is a challenging time
for the parish and these leadership positions offer
unique opportunities for ministry. Nominations
or expressions of interest can be given to junior
warden Jeff Albright.
D iocesan conventionThe vestry appointed Bud Gartz, Mary Gartz
and Becky Roth as the parish’s delegates to the
diocesan convention being held November 14-15.
Alternates are Jim Zechm an, Jane Bueche and Jill
Snyder.
Weather AlertA level two or level three snow emergency
means that the church is closed. That goes for
Sunday services, too! Church closings will be
announced on local television.
Next to NewShopping Hours Monday and Friday 9:30-3:00.
Don’t forget to shop at a p lace wh ere your
pu rchase matters! In this economy, w e can help
your Christmas shopping, and you can help area
ministry partners w ith every purchase you make.Come and see the new winter collection at Next-
to- New. Clothes, household goods and other
wonderful things await you. Gift Certificates

Watching the web workIn preparing for the
Diocesan Youth Event,
it has been a privilege
to talk w ith so many
wond erful people in this
town who are giving
their lives to help those in need . Here’s a synopsis
of one interesting unfolding of the web of connections:
This all started when Marie’s connection with
Susan McDonald, th e Bishop ’s Assistant for Life-
long Learning, led to Trinity being asked to host
the Fall Youth Event. Part of my work for this
weekend w as to find p laces where the youth
could go in small groups to volunteer. The com-
mu nity has been very enth usiastic and we easily
found plenty of agencies and places for the young
people to go for 3 hours on Saturd ay morning.
One of these places was Mobile Meals. While I
was talking with Carolyn at Mobile Meals I told
her about one of the other sites we w ould be
using, Food for Thought, the group that han ds out
sandwiches on Saturdays at the downtown
library. She was very interested in this service
and has since contacted them , volun teered with
them and has given them extra food from Mobile
Meals for their lunch progr am. Next I found ou t
that the husband of the person w ho run s Food for
Thought w orks in the same bu ilding as the Mobile
Meals office so he can easily take th e d onated food
to the site where the lunches are put together. In
ad dition, a r elative of a Mobile Meals stafferworks at Panera and now they have Panera
helping with Food for Thought.
And there’s more. Many from Mobile Meals
staff are coming to tie blankets with us. Another
group coming to help w ith blankets is the Girl
Scout troop that the director’s daughter is
with. AND, a group of women from New H arvest
church has mad e and delivered blankets to us
already.
Toledo is a small town in some ways, filled
with very generous people. This seems to have
God’s fingerprint all over it.
—Susan Lowrey
Meditating on A dvent
when you may not think
you are readyIf you w ant God, and long for union w ith
God, yet sometimes wonder what that
means or w hether it can mean anything at
all, you are already w alking w ith the God
wh o comes. If you are at times so w eary andinvolved with the struggle of living th at you
have no strength even to wan t God, yet are
still dissatisfied that you don’t, you are al-
ready keeping Advent in you r life. If you
have ever had an obscure intuition that the
truth of things is somehow better, greater,
more won derful than you d eserve or desire,
that the touch of God
in your life stills you
by its gentleness, that
there is a mercy be-
yond anything youcould ever suspect,
you are already
draw n into the cen-
tral mystery of salva-
tion.
Your hope is not a
mocking dream; God
creates in hu man h earts a huge desire and a
sense of need, because God wants to fill
them with the gift of God’s self ….
You yourself are the place of desire and
need. All your love, your stretching ou t,your hope, your thirst, God is creating in
you so that God m ay fill you. It is not your
desire that makes it happ en, but God’s. God
longs through you r heart ... God is on the
inside of your longing.
! Maria Boulding
