The NAJA Clowns went to MSA in Sioux Falls this year with the idea ofcompeting in everything we could and ha ving a lot of fun. The BelleFourche and Rapid City Clowns went as one single N AJA Clown unit, and everyone definitely knew we were there. At the awards ceremonyduring the clown dinner on Friday night, the comment w as made theywere glad we didn't go to Imperial because the y wouldn't have wonanything. I was coerced into taking the position of 3rd Vice President ofthe Midwest Shrine Clown Association during the awards ceremony. Iwill be President when we host MSA in Deadwood and will be lookingfor a lot of help to make it a success.

Before and after the parades, especially the one in Tea, our golf cart wasbusy transporting people back and forth from the parade route and stagingarea, to the Oasis and the parking area. At one point we had made somany runs we said we needed to put up a sign that said “CLOWN TAXI”.It was all part of the fun and we were glad to do it. A special thanks tothe guys who drove my pickup with the clown trailer in the parades andto Wayne Miner from WAWA Temple who drove our golf cart in theparades. Without your help we would have had to take clowns away fromriding our scooters in the parades and interacting with the crowds.

We had one ne w clown and several who weren't ne w but had nevercompeted. Every one of the NAJA Clowns who competed wonsomething, which is quite an accomplishment as some of thecompetition was pretty tough. The awards we won are as follows:

Chris Buckius (Yippy) - 2nd - 1 man skit, 2nd - Character makeup

Clyde Smith (Rowdy) - 1st - Character Makeup

Ron Nenaber (Pokey) - 1st - Whiteface Makeup

Ray Leeman (Pappy) - 1st - Paradeability

Joel Stephens (Katchup) - 1st - Auguste Makeup, 1st - 1 man skit, 2nd Paradeability

Rick Dehaven (Taz) - 2nd - Auguste Makeup

Chris Buckius, Ray Leeman - 1st - 2 man skit

Clyde Smith, Ron Nenaber - 2nd - 2 man skit

Joel Stephens, Rick DeHaven - 3rd - 2 man skit

Clyde Smith, Ray Leeman, Kacee Spaulding(Twitch), Eric Fisher (Shoey)- 1st - Group Skit

Chris Buckius, Ron Nenaber, Joel Stephens, Rick Dehaven - 2nd - Group Skit

Besides winning a lot of a wards, we had a great timewith everyone at the competition and picked up a lot ofnew ideas and tips on how to get better at what we do.For those who didn't go, you missed out on a great time.Maybe you can go ne xt year and help us bring homemore awards.

See You There,

Ray Leeman, President, NAJA Clown Patrol

MSA Parade

Page 25: November December January 2014/2015 Naja Nugget
