Annual vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening will take place during the months of November and December. Only those students who are unable to pass the screening will receive a no-tice in the mail.

INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOOL PHYSICALS

New York State Law requires physical examinations of children when they:

-are new students to the district

-are in grades K, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11

-participate in interscholastic sports

-apply for working papers

To be eligible to participate in interscholastic sports, all students must have a current physical on file in the health office prior to the start of each season. Physicals are valid for a period of 12 months through the last day of the month in which the physical was conducted.

According to state law, if any reason prevents you from having your child’s physical completed, your child will be examined in a timely manner by the school physician. Physicals are offered pri-or to each sport season as well as several dates in the spring. Parents must contact the health

office between February 1st

and March 1st

if they want their child to obtain a physical at school.

Please contact the LMS Health Office with any questions, concerns, or to schedule your

child’s physical. Contact us at 686-3225 or [email protected] before 2/1/19.

Canned Food Drive

Hey LMS, it’s that time of year again for the annual Canned Food Drive. LMS has held this canned food drive for over 25 years. Every year, our goal has been to help the communities of Lancaster and Depew collect important food items such as turkey, stuffing, corn, and much more to make the holidays brighter for our neighborhood friends.

How it works: every homeroom will receive a bag with a list of foods that could be used for a thanksgiving dinner. Instead of collecting 3,000 packages of ramen noodles, we have a list of foods that the people actually need. There are 25 items on the list, so, if every member of your homeroom brings in just one item you will be able to fill the list and get one entry into a raffle. If you fill up the list one time you get one entry to win a prize, if you fill the list two times, you get two more entries for a prize, if you fill the list three times then you get three more entries for a prize and so on. The homeroom that wins the raffle will receive a catered party from somewhere like Paula’s Donuts, Tim Horton’s, Picasso’s, or Moe’s. Reminder, Frozen Turkey Day is November 15th.

So LMS, what do you say? Let’s make this holiday season special for everyone and partici-pate in our annual Canned Food Drive.

List of items: Frozen Turkey, box of stuffing, boxed mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, canned yams, cranberry sauce, boxed dessert mix, mac and cheese, big box of cereal, hot chocolate, pudding, pop tarts, pancake mix, syrup, granola bars, jelly, peanut butter, juice, cake mix, canned fruit, applesauce, pasta, spaghetti sauce.

One Lancaster Dance

The One Lancaster, Red and Black dance was a huge success with over 500 students in attendance. The cafeteria was decorated in the red and black theme by members of LMS student council. Our DJ, Mr. Johnson, played songs that got everyone dancing in the cafeteria. And boy, was it hot in the cafe!!! There were cold, refreshing beverages in the hallway for the thirsty dancers. Thank you to all who attended. Our next dance is the Winter Ball, January 25th from 7-9:30 pm. Hope to see you there!

Halloween Dance

This year’s Halloween Dance had an awesome turn out! The dance was really fun I enjoyed it myself. There was a lot of really cool costumes.

The winners of the costume contest were:

Sabrina Winnert as the make up table, Caroline Helenbrook as the GummyBear, Julia Drayer as the Bag O’ Jelly beans, Hannah Holdsworth with the fantastic, artist face makeup, and David Murschel as the Magical, Rainbow Unicorn.

The music was great with lots of Halloween themed songs, and I liked how there was pizza and cookies and donuts.

Thank you to the Home School Association for their help that evening. Overall I think everyone had a great time. These dances are always fun.

Mrs. Spampata's period 2 Home Skills class has made lots of great foods this marking period. The

kids enjoyed trying different combinations of flavored popcorn, pizza, macaroni and cheese (Kraft

was voted the best by the class), monkey bread, and yummy hamburger cookies (made from Nilla

wafers, Mint Chocolate cookies, and lots of frosting that we colored to look like lettuce, ketchup and

mustard). The kids have done a great job with all their delicious treats!

October, 2018

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The Lancaster Central School District is conducting a survey of youth attitudes and behaviors in eighth, tenth and

twelfth grades. This survey will be used to assess the needs of young people and their families in the Lancaster

Community, to support grant applications for funding, and to plan for future programs and services. Students from

the Lancaster Middle School and Lancaster High School in the Lancaster Central School District have been invited

to participate.

Survey information is entirely confidential and the data gathered will be presented only in the form of statistical

tables.

The survey itself is a simple, multiple choice instrument which will be administered on January 4, 2019 during

school on Chromebooks. At no time will your child be required to place his/her name anywhere on the survey.

Topics will include the students' involvement in positive youth development activities, behaviors, attitudes; and in-

volvement with family, friends, school and community organizations.

Participation in the survey is completely voluntary. However, we hope that your son/daughter will choose to be

involved. The data we collect will be critical in providing important services for young people in the next decade.

You are invited to read the survey beforehand, if you wish to know more about it. The survey will be available for

your perusal at Lancaster Middle School between December 10, 2018 through December 20, 2018.

If you do not want your son/daughter to participate in the survey, please return the form at the bottom of this page

to the Middle School Main Office no later than Thursday, December 20, 2018. If we do not hear from you by that

date, it will be assumed that your son/daughter has permission to participate in the survey if he/she so chooses.

If you have any questions, please contact Lancaster Middle School at 686-3220.

Thank you for your cooperation.

The Technology Department in Lancaster has been involved in many STEM related programs; PLTW, Gateway, Launch, and events such as Physics Olympics, Sci-ence Olympiad, ECC Tech Wars and "Hand and Hand". Some of these events would not have been possible without the WNY STEM Coalition and their out-reach.

The WNY STEM Coalition recognized one of our own! Leif Johnson was recog-nized as a WNY "STEM Teacher Leader" for his work with the "Hand and Hand" program that designs and fits prosthetics for youth along with his VEXS teams that have competed successfully over the years at the ECC Tech Wars.

Congratulations Mr. Johnson!!!
