BRAVE MAN,A SOLDIER’S STORY

“I am but a child, speaking of love, of peace. Being in harmony with all around me and yet you ask me to be a man. You ask me to go and fight a war I know nothing of, or no reason for. Brave man, I am told to serve my country, defend her freedoms and beliefs. But, whose freedom do I defend and who will defend me? I am but a boy.”“Brave man, they say as I board the trains and busses and watch all I know click be with every turn of the wheel. My family, who defend me, friends who scream ‘traitor’ and baby killer in anger. I am torn. I do not feel so brave.”“Brave man, I am told by my leader as we go into a land as dark and sinister as any I have dreamed, yet as beautiful as can be seen. Where is this enemy I am sent to find. Who is this I am fighting and why?”“Brave man, they say as I run to hold the hand of my best friend and watch as the holes in his body pour out life as surely as they pour blood. I do not feel brave. I feel only anger and sickness. As fire rains down we close in, bodies flying, unidentified and forgotten.”“Shouts, unintelligible, lost in the rumble of gunfire and explosion, then a silence as thick

as the jungle itself, a silence of the dead.”“Brave man, they say as I step off the plane amidst the jeers of the ones who know not. Only my family there believing I have done the right thing. No one defends me. I have fought and now wish only peace. There is no peace. I relive daily the screams, the horror and deaths I helped to cause. There is no peace in the night, only nightmares.”“Do not call me ‘Brave Man’ for I am but a child, trapped forever in a world I never wished to see. I am a voice, but only one of many. Do you hear our cries?”“Regrets, we have them. Would we go again? You better believe it, forever!”Just thoughts from the minds of those who have given so you can have the right to call them baby killer, friend, father, son, brother or “Brave Man”. You have this right because they chose to give up theirs for a while and bear the memories for the rest of their life.IF YOU WANT TO DO ANYTHING, THANK THEM.From a brave man to all who served and the ones who respect them, Thank you.

4 TABLE TALK NOVEMBER 2012

AMSAF is a non-profit service organization established in 2011. Our name says it all: we aim to reach out to the entire motorcycle riding community, as well as to every Arizona citizen, to promote and improve the well-being of motorcycle enthusiasts.

Our passion for motorcycles and the riding experience fuels our mission to make motorcycling safer and more enjoyable. Our Board is made up of folks who ride, have experienced a successful Business background and want to help make a difference.

Our vision is to foster a safe and friendly motorcycle riding environment for all Arizona motorcyclists to enjoy. Here’s how we’re planning to do it:

• Produce public service announcements, seminars and DVDs with the theme, “Watch out for motorcycles!”

• Produce educational materials emphasizing the importance of riding responsibly and the perils of impairment.

• Create multi-media marketing campaigns using TV, radio, billboards, newspapers, magazines and Internet to promote motorcycle safety and awareness.

• Promote Arizona legislation to enhance motorcycle safety and awareness.• Promote rider-training assistance programs.• Work with the Arizona Department of Transportation to minimize

road conditions uniquely hazardous to motorcycles.

To reach our mission we are seeking your support. Your contribution will allow us to make use of every conceivable media format to inform and educate riders and the general public.

We need your help, in the form of a tax-deductible contribution, to achieve our goals. All proceed sponsorship funds go to the AMSAF mission of promoting motorcycle safety and awareness. All sponsors are recognized in our media and promotional campaigns. Check us out at www.amsaf.org or Amsaf on Facebook.

This is an exciting time for Arizona and all motorcycle riders as AMSAF starts to expand communication, safety tools and awareness out there to help the motorcycle rider.

I thank you for your interest and support on AMSAF, the Foundation created to help Motorcycle Safety and Awareness.

→ The Hustler was based on a novel by Walter Tevis. The novel, however, was based on a short story he had earlier submitted to Playboy. Before “The Hustler” was released, the “Philco TV Theater” aired an episode called “Goodbye, Johnny”, which bore an uncanny resemblance to the Playboy short story. In it, Cliff Robertson portrayed the cocky young hustler, making Robertson – not Newman – the original “Fast Eddie” Felson. → Marquetry – the art of making pictures or designs with thin slices of wood, shell or other materials – has long enhanced the beauty of tables and cues. The art form is hardly a recent development. It has been practiced in Egypt and the Orient for more than 3,000 years. → Many handicapped people have played the game of pool, but the story of “Handless George” Sutton is truly one of inspiration. Born in 1870, Sutton lost both hands in a sawmill accident at the tender age of eight. Despite his handicap (and long before the days of advanced

prosthetics), he studied medicine and graduated from the University of Milwaukee. During his college years, he took up the game of billiards. He became so proficient, he set an 18.2 Balkline world record with a run of 799, in 1921. He took his playing skills on the road, touring the country and amazing audiences for nearly 35 years. He left an everlasting legacy – the resolve of the human spirit – upon his death, in 1938. → Before the invention of celluloid and other new-age plastics, billiard balls were made out of ivory. The elephants can thank their present existence on the invention of plastics. Because billiard balls had to be cut from the dead center of a tusk, the average tusk yielded only 3 to 4 balls.→ In 1586, the castle of Mary, Queen of Scots, was invaded and captured. The Invaders made a note of forbidding her the use of her Pool Tables. They then killed her, and used the covering of the table to cover her body.

By Robert LymanI agree with a Grover Norquist style contract to uphold all promises made to their constituents during the election process, also could show their official voting record to prove they had upheld their campaign pledges, however, the root of the problem is the corrupting power of money in politics. All congressmen, and senators and even our supreme court have been bought by very wealthy campaign donors and gifts, all which favor legislation to the contributors, how many lobbyists do the poor and the unemployed have fighting and giving gifts to you in Washington? Ever wondered why it will take 1 billion dollars to become President this year, do you think those who contributed the dollars would want

something in exchange? If we can get a ruling to on repeal Citizens United in the bought off Supreme Court, that would bring the elections back to a level playing field not influenced by lobbyist for special interest from large corporations like pharma, oil, or gas companies. Look at the getmoneyout.com site or movetoamend.org for details on how we can get the assholes to do the work of the people, not the highest bidder. Keep up the good work, keep the billiard guys thinking.

TAVERNMedalist News! - Come out to Cheers Tavern - Wednesday Night Blind Draw Dart Tournament

by James Kozak

Let me start this informative action packed 200 word tutorial by admitting that I am probably the worst dart (ist?)(Thrower?). That doesn’t mean I can’t research, and help our reader’s choose a better dart board. So if and when you go dart board shopping, there are several aspects to consider in your journeys. For instance, a premium high quality steel- tipped dart board should be made of bristle, be sure it has a movable number ring. The thinner the metal bands separating the numbers, the less the darts will bounce out. The board should be 18” in diameter. Bristle dart boards are made with African sisal fibers

which provide a self-healing dart board when darts are removed, adding to the boards lifespan. Most importantly bristle boards are rated highest for accurate scoring. Unless you’re like me, and you’re looking for that extra edge.If your dart board happens to be made in Kenya, England New Zealand, or Australia, chances are you have yourself a good board. Sorry China this is one manufacturing list you didn’t make. And remember folks if you see me with dart-in-hand, please, for your safety, keep your distance. I would like to give special thanks to Patty at Dart Force One in Mesa, for her time, patience, and knowledge.
