For the members of Brooklyn five-piece, The Loom, the answer to this question is the reason that theychoose to play music together in the first place - the simple search for joy. It’s a concern that both far outdates,and is reflected in, the searching folk, intricate percussion, and psych-influenced dissonance andatmospherics that they love and wind into their music. But Teeth, their debut, is not all joyful. Like the musicthat inspires them, it focuses more closely on the myriad hurdles that ensnare us along the way.

Shirk Circus, This Band Will Destroy Your LifeAmidst a pile of empty chococcino bottles and the blaring background sound of the Descendents’ “I Don’t WantTo Grow Up”, Shirk Circus was spawned in January 1991. The band released two stellar albums on the greatBar/None label, and then imploded, another victim of the 1990s indie rock boom. Rumors of a third, unreleasedalbum persisted, but were never confirmed. Finally completed in 2007, this is that third album. Following theuntimely death of singer/guitarist Josh Silverman in February of 2011, the album art was compiled by hisfriends and family for release - finally, after more than a decade.
