Director of Missions Deryl Lackey

We continue to see new church starts this month and look forward to a great November.

I am very thankful for your prayers and support as the Lord opens the doors wide open for opportunities to proclaim His name even when we may feel so inadequate.

1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when

you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”

The temptations we face are very common to man. They work so good Satan doesn’t even have to think of new ones. The great promise is, “God is faithful”. In spite of our lack of faith, our weakness in fight-ing off the temptation which has seized us, He remains faithful!

He promises to: Limit the temptation, Provide a way out and give you the strength to stand-up against it. The only chance we have of any success is to allow Christ to do the work through us. He is always faithful.

Part 5 How to Grow as a Church Leader: Seek Mentors

Mentors come in many forms and are found in many places. One can find articles on the Internet that are helpful in establishing leadership qualities. Churchleaders.com is an excellent source of material in short easy to read weekly articles. An entry I read gave me the outline for these five articles. Leadership books by both Christian and secular authors have a great deal to contribute to our education and development. My

favorite Christian leadership authors are Aubrey Malphurs, Charles Swindoll, Rick Warren, and a good secular authors would be Peter Drucker and Steven Covey. Then there are conferences where you can hear the experts telling their secrets, but probably the best way is finding someone that you and others respect as a leader. Ask them to spend time with you. Take them to lunch or meet with them over coffee. Make the atmosphere as relaxed as possible. The secret is to dominate the listening. Ask questions and then just sit back, let them talk, and take copious notes. You don't want to rush them and you don’t want to miss a word.

Greetings to all! I want to thank the numerous churches and individuals who helped in so

many ways at our annual meeting/mission fair. We are truly blessed in our Association

with so many churches and ministries who cooperate for the advancement of God’s

Kingdom. We have had an exciting year here in the Inland Empire. We have seen 20

plus church plants, numerous outreach events in which our evangelism trailers were

used, a number of our churches team-up with one another for kingdom causes, and

some individually customized training and service for a number of our over 200 churches. I have no

doubt God has significant plans for us in 2012. As most of you know, there are changes taking place

in the North American Mission Board and possibly in our State Convention. I hope you have continued

to pray for our leaders in those valued partners. Please pray for us as we too would be open to the

changes God desires to make in our Association so that together we can, in the most effective way,

further His work here in the Inland Empire.

Sunday School Director’s Meeting

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 8th

from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. We will meet at the associational office. One of the most common questions I am asked is about Sunday School job descriptions. At this meet-ing we will discuss the various jobs in the Sunday School and provide some sample job descriptions.

Save the date:

EQUIPPED FOR EXCELLENCE will be on Saturday, April 21, 2011. The keynote speaker will be Randy McWhorter. A publicity packet will be mailed in a few weeks.

Tsemach Christian Alliance

The Tsemach Christian Alliance is located in Grand Terrace. This church, also known as Grand Terrace Community Church, was incorporated in 1963. Pastor Gil Villalpando, formerly the associate pastor, was called in 2009 as Senior Pastor, and had a new vision to reach out to the Jewish Community. The church merged with an organization called Hebrew Christian Witness, founded by Mike & Ruth Perl in 1955. Their daughter, Rachel Perl, has continued the missionary outreach of the organization. Pastor Gil and Rachel met

in 2008 and subsequently merged together both ministries to form Tsemach Christian Alliance. Together, Rachel and Pastor Gil have been working to reach out to the Jewish people around their area in order to show them the love of God and Christian love. Many Jewish people have a negative view of Christians, or believe that Christ is only the God of the Gentiles. One of the greatest strengths of Tsemach is their diversity. The church itself consists of about 20 members, including all different ethnicities, from Jewish-Russian, to Jewish-African American and more. They also sponsor a Hispanic Church that meets in their building. Once a month, both groups come together for a celebration service. One of the main ministries of Tsemach is the Hebrew Christian Witness Institute. It is a non-accredited school, taught by Rachel, which meets at the church. The course lasts 2 years, and in that time the students are taught everything they need so that they will be able to go out on their own as a Jewish-Christian missionary and to plant Jewish Christian churches. There are about 6 students attending right now, and the school is on its second course. One Jewish missionary trainee, who heads the food and women's home ministry, plans to move to Israel to further Tsemach's work there. Pastor Gil also has a heart for families who have lost their jobs and as a result, have lost their homes. The church has a housing ministry, affiliated with HUD, whose outreach to these families includes food, clothing and housing assistance. The church is trying to give these people hope and also share the Gospel with them. They are reaching out to everyone, not only the Jewish people. You can pray for Tsemach Christian Alliance as they are in need of more workers. You can pray that God moves upon Jewish hearts and that there will be unity in worship with no walls that divide. Pray that God continues to use Tsemach to reach out and show His love to the Jewish Community.

WMU Women’s Retreat

Adiestrados para la Excelencia 2011

Inland Empire Association WMU/ Women’s Ministry presented its Annual Ladies Retreat on Friday and Saturday, September 23-24, 2011 at the Ontario Sheraton Hotel. This year’s retreat was enjoyed by approximately 150 Inland Empire women, 17 churches participated. The theme this year was, “The Past is Trash,” Philippians 3:14 and Luke 9:62.

The weekend began with an awesome presentation by Master Pot-ter Becky Peck, a Fontana P.D. Chaplain’s Wife. Becky shared how God is constantly molding us into the women He wants us to be, she encouraged us to stop fighting God

and allow Him to mold us. The evening ended with a walk through the Prayer Garden and a really nice pool party. The fellowship was great!

Saturday was packed full of fun and meaningful things. Our speaker was Sis.Ozie Simpson, a Minister’s wife from Glendora, who truly allowed God to use her this weekend. We heard several breathtaking testimonies and we also enjoyed nine workshops, which dealt with the theme for the weekend. God really blessed as several of the workshop leaders were extremely transparent as they shared how God had brought them through some difficult times. The weekend ended with a Fashion show, spotlighting vintage clothing and the fruits of the Spirit.

We look forward to next year’s retreat and what God has in store for the Inland Empire ladies. (Next years retreat will be the last Friday and Saturday in September. We are currently recruiting for the Women’s retreat planning Committee. Call Sis. Bobbie Brooks at IESBA (951)784-2655.)

Everyone had a great time at the 12th

annual Adiestrados para la Excelencia Hispanic training event last month. Nearly 200 people, representing 23 churches from five associations, attended one of the 17 conferences. We want to thank Montia Setzler and the Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church in Riverside for hosting the event. Richard Vera, from the California Southern Baptist Convention, was the keynote speaker. Special thanks goes to the conference leaders. In addition, we want to express our appreciation to Noemi Toledo and the Iglesia Bautista Sierra Vista for taking care of the conference support needs; Primera Iglesia Bautista, Moreno Valley for organizing lunch; Moises Gonzalez and the team from Templo Bautista Monte Calvario in Rialto who helped with the breakfast, breaks and anything else that needed to be done. Juan Bautista Ramirez, pastor of First

Baptist Church in San Bernardino and Jesse Ureño, pastor of Primera Bautista, Redlands and members of their churches provided help with the registration. There was a drawing from all of those who gave us their e-mail address and Eugenia Valdovinos of Winnetka is the winner of the $50 VISA gift card. Congratulations Eugenia!
