Frances Xavier Cabrini – Patroness of Immigrants and Migrants

Feast Day: November 13

St. Frances was born in Lombardi, Italy in 1850, one of thirteen children. At eighteen,

she desired to become a Nun, but poor health stood in her way. She helped her parents

until their death, and then worked on a farm with her brothers and sisters.

One day a priest asked her to teach in a girls' school and she stayed for six years. At

the request of her Bishop, she founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart to

care for poor children in schools and hospitals. Then at the urging of Pope Leo XIII

she came to the United States with six nuns in 1889 to work among the Italian immi-

grants.

Filled with a deep trust in God and endowed with a wonderful administrative ability,

this remarkable woman soon founded schools, hospitals, and orphanages in this strange

land and saw them flourish in the aid of Italian immigrants and children. At the time of

her death, in Chicago, Illinois on December 22, 1917, her institute numbered houses in

England, France, Spain, the United States, and South America. In 1946, she became

the first American citizen to be canonized when she was elevated to sainthood by Pope

Pius XII.

Santa Francisca Javier Cabrini – Patrona de los

Inmigrantes y Migrantes

Día de Fiesta: 13 de Noviembre

Santa Francisca nació en Lombardi Italia en 1850, una de trece hijos. A los dieciocho

años, ella deseaba ser monja, pero su pobre salud se interpuso en su camino. Ayudó a

sus padres hasta que ellos murieron y luego trabajó en una granja con sus hermanos y

hermanas.

Un día un sacerdote le pidió que enseñara en una escuela de niñas y allí permaneció

durante seis años. A petición de su Obispo, fundó las Hermanas Misioneras del Sagra-

do Corazón para cuidar a los niños pobres de las escuelas y los hospitales. Luego, a

instancias del Papa León XIII llegó a Estados Unidos con seis monjas en 1889 para

trabajar entre los inmigrantes italianos.

Llena de profunda confianza en Dios y dotada de una capacidad administrativa maravi-

Rite of Christian Initiation: The Rite of Acceptance

Today, Sunday November 8, our Candidates and Catechumen of our community take another step in their journey of faith toward the celebra-tion of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil or Pentecost Sunday. God has called them to a deeper relationship with Him and the Church. They have been gathering with our parish catechists for several weeks in Inquiry Sessions. They have been asking ques-tions about our faith and the Christian life. They now take a step to enter the Catechumenate—a time of further preparation. They gather each week for classes to learn more about our faith. We ask you to keep them in your prayers.

NOVEMBER 11: VETERANS’ DAY/

ARMISTICE DAY We remember and pray for all who have served and

are currently serving in the Armed Forces. We re-

member in particular those who have died in the ser-

vice of our country. We also remember family mem-

bers who mourn soldiers who have died in war or

those who live with the worries and concerns for rela-

tives who are serving overseas. We pray, too, for

peace.

In observance to the holiday we will celebrate the

parish Mass at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, November

11. The parish and school offices will be closed as

well.

B a z a a r : The Cofradía of the Sa-

cred Heart of Jesus will be selling baked goods, cookies and diverse items on Sun-day, November 22 from 8:00AM – 2:30 PM in the vestibule of the church. Your Sup-port is appreciated!

RITO DE INICIACION CRISTIANA EL RITO DE ACEPTACION

Hoy Domingo 8 de Noviembre, nuestros Candida-tos y Catecúmenos de nuestra comunidad toman un nuevo paso en su jornada de fe hacia la cele-bración de los Sacramentos de Iniciación (Bautismo, Confirmación, Eucaristía) en la Vigilia Pascual o el Domingo de Pentecostés. Dios los ha llamado a una relación más profunda con Él y la Iglesia. Ellos han estado reuniéndose con nuestros catequistas por varias semanas en sesiones con sus preguntas a cerca de nuestra fe y vida Cristiana. Ahora toman un paso más para en-trar en el Catecumenado – tiempo para una prepa-ración más profunda. Se reunirán cada semana pa-ra clases y así aprender más a cerca de nuestra fe.

DÍA DEL ARMISTICIO Recordamos y oramos por todos los que han servido y están

actualmente sirviendo en las Fuerzas Armadas. Recorda-

mos en particular a aquellos que han muerto al servicio de

nuestro país. También recordamos los miembros de fami-

lias que lloran los soldados que han muerto en la guerra o

que viven con la preocupación por sus familiares que están

sirviendo fuera del país. También oramos por la paz.

En observación a este día celebraremos la Misa parro-
