From Fr. Sam’s “Golf Bag”

Whenever we run out of anything, whether food,

money, time, patience, we feel “put out,” inconvenienced -

and a little foolish. Sometimes running out implies that we

were short to begin with, that we failed to notice the shortfall and that we acted

too late to remedy the situation. In this regard we’re all shortsighted.

We long to be sufficient - but never will achieve that goal. Running out of

material goods can be unpleasant, but how are we in regards to our spiritual

stocks. We know that Christians should embody the spirit of today’s Psalm “for

you I long.” Do we? Would onlookers observe that we really yearn for God, and

act as if we need God?

Allowing our spiritual resources to dry up is nothing less than disastrous.

Thinking that we can “borrow” from another’s store (“my mother goes to Mass

for me”) is foolishness.

The foolish bridesmaids put off their preparations, their minds apparently on

other things. The bridesmaids who were called “wise” simply focused on the de-

tails of the task in hand - and they were given entry to the wedding feast. The

goodness of our tomorrows will be the fruits of today’s attentive and focused

loving and living..

Grace and Peace,

Our Lady of Grace School Study Skills Enrichment

One of the enrichment activities after

school hours is Study Skills. Mrs. Karla Goodling, fifth grade homeroom teacher, works with fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students on different tech-niques to help them with note taking, organization, and studying strategies.

Mrs. Goodling teaches a strategy and then has the students work on an activity to use that strategy. The activities are completed on the lap tops or on paper.

When you meet after school one of the important things to think about is the “hungries.” Mrs. Goodling provided a snack and water for her students to enjoy during class.

A Halloween Winter Wonderland In spite of the wet snow, blowing winds, and very cold temperatures, the children of the parish and their parents came out in droves to the annual Children’s Halloween Party!!!

The parish Hal-loween Party was a welcomed activity for many families who

had been “snowed in” all day and who needed a fun family holiday party to get them out of the house for a while! The party was held in the evening for the first time this year to accommodate the chil-dren who play sports on fall Saturday afternoons (even though there were no sports THIS particular Saturday). Because of the

change of time, the Squires and Daugh-ters added activities for older children. There was a marvelous and scary Haunted House which was quite an undertaking. The teens planned, prepared, bought, and made many of the items for the scary scenes. They set up and decorated the area themselves and ran the entire Haunted House. The Squires and Daughters even acted in the scary scenes of the Haunted House!

The Halloween Party also included an Autumn Obstacle Course which again was planned and executed entirely by the members of the Squires and Daughters. The children could choose to race through the course and get timed to compete against other children for prizes. Or they could simply run through the course for fun!! There

were plenty of games and crafts, and dinner was available for pur-chase.

The Confirmation students helped run the games stations. We will never forget our Halloween

Winter Wonderland Party!!

Ongoing Events and Ministries at Our Lady of Grace

NOVEMBER’S POOR BOX A portion of OLG’s Poor Box donations will be donated to the Our Daily Bread (ODB). ODB serves a free, hot lunch daily, 365 days a year, to the poor and homeless in Baltimore City.

NOVEMBER’S SECOND COLLECTION The collection will be for the Catholic Campaign for Human Devel-opment.

BAPTISM The Sacrament of Baptism is available on the 1st Sunday of the month after the last Mass. Individual Baptisms may also be administered during Mass. Call the Parish Offices for more information and individual baptism dates. Note: no individual baptisms may be held at Mass during Advent or Lent. Completion of a Pre-Baptismal Program is required. Arrangements should be made six weeks in advance.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND WEEKDAY LITURGY CANCELLATION POLICY

If Baltimore County Schools are closed or opening late because of inclement weather, there will be no weekday morning Mass or Communion Service. If bad weather develops during the weekend, parents should call the Parish Office at (410) 329-6826 and listen to the recording concerning Sunday Rel. Ed. classes. All other meetings scheduled at Our Lady of Grace will be cancelled during the weekday when schools are closed because of inclement weather or if Baltimore County schools dismiss early.

RITE OF RECONCILIATION Confessions are heard on Saturdays from 4:00pm to 4:30pm or upon request.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION Please call the Parish Office (410) 329-6826 and leave a message for Mary Kioussis, the Religious Education Secretary, on ext. 114.

ANYONE INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process is for people who have never been baptized and for those who were baptized in another Christian denomination. If you or someone you know might want to learn more about the Catholic faith, have them call or e-mail Dr. Jack Buchner at (410) 329-6826, ext. 122 or [email protected].

OLG MUSIC MINISTRY Contact Beth Pugliese, Minister of Liturgical Music, (410) 329-6826, ext. 107, to join or to answer your questions.

YOUTH GROUP To join the OLG YOUTH GROUP (THE DAUGHTERS OR THE COLUMBIAN SQUIRES) – the official youth organization of the Knights of Columbus – contact Mrs. Deborah Webber on (410) 329-6826, ext. 106.

NEW WAYS TO PRAY? Our Contemplative Prayer Group is always open to new mem-bers. We meet on the third Monday of each month from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Each month, we are lead through a “practice” that leads into a time of silent prayer, followed by some reflection on the practice. The goal is always union with God. Interested? Please contact Sr. Mary Therese at [email protected] or email Leslie Davis at [email protected].

An Original Christmas Musical

Written and Directed

by Mary Miller

Set

The storyline centers on teens unhappy with their service project for school, volunteering at the local homeless shelter. The teens are transformed, and the audience

will be too, as they learn the treasures they hold in their hearts are far more valuable than those they hold in their hands.

An uplifting musical portraying true stories of Baltimore’s homeless at

Christmas. This one of a kind inspirational show is a must

see for the whole family!
