ELECTRA MINING IS UPON US

Rain, rain, go-away we’d like to work today. My word, we really needed rain to fill the dams and bring relief to drought stricken areas, but to have floods, tornadoes, hailstorms and snow all

in one, was really hectic. I sincerely hope that your businesses were spared from any damages and our thoughts go out to those businesses that were affected.

In a few weeks’ time the industry will be treated to view new equipment and solutions for the mining industry at Electra Mining taking place at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

Thousands of visitors who attend the biggest mining, industrial, machine tools and electrical trade show in

southern Africa have the opportunity to meet with potential customers

in one place. According to the organisers, Specialised Exhibitions, it’s a premier showcase, which brings new products to market with resounding success. Benefit from on site sales, plenty of sales leads and brand visibility, are all major advantages of being part of Electra Mining Africa 2016. “It delivers a great return on investment for exhibitors and provides a world-class event for visitors who are keen to see the latest in products, services, technologies and trends across the mining, construction, industrial, power generation and machine tools sectors.”

“These high power machines have been engineered for optimum performance,

precision control and enhanced operator safety. This model boasts the highest fuel efficiency in the industry’s 20 Ton class – an increasingly important feature as fuel prices continue to rise,” says Alex Ackron, Managing Director, HPE Africa, Capital Equipment Group (CEG) of Invicta Holdings Limited. “The R180 series, which is fitted with a specially manufactured bucket for the local market, has an operating weight of 19,1 Tons and is operative in the 20 Ton class range. Hyundai Robex R180LC-9S

excavators are particularly well suited for demanding applications in plant hire, civil engineering, construction and agriculture.”

A computer aided power optimisation (CAPO) system ensures the optimum level of engine power and hydraulic flow for every application. The CAPO system also provides complete diagnostic

features and digital gauges for critical information. For example, fuel levels and hydraulic oil and water temperatures.

These variable operating modes are: P - Power Max, which maximises machine speed and power; S - standard mode provides a reduced, fixed rpm and for maximum fuel savings and improved control, E - economy mode provides precise flow and power based on load demand.

Hyundai R180LC-9S excavators are fitted with air cooled six cylinder Tier 2 diesel engines, with class leading fuel efficiency equating to as much as 100% of the purchase price during the recommended useful life of a machine.

BABCOCK’S SERVICE

[ NEWS ]

As the exclusive regional distributor of Volvo and SDLG construction equipment, Tadano and SENNEBOGEN cranes,

Winget concrete handling machinery, and rigid and articulated haulers from Terex Trucks, Babcock has built long-term relationships with its customers by delivering to the highest standards long after the sale has been made.

David Vaughan and Ben Buys, Sales Director and Operations Director respectively for Babcock’s Equipment division, discuss how Babcock’s tailor-made aftersales service contracts are increasing productivity for customers, protecting the residual value of owners’ machinery, and transferring risks associated with maintenance away from its customers. “Our long-term replacement strategies, fleet maintenance and technologically advanced services are proving to be increasingly attractive options to our customers, particularly in the mining industry where machines operate long hours and any downtime translates into lost revenue,” says Vaughan.

According to Buys, Babcock is currently ranked among the top three companies in southern Africa in terms of servicing facilities and technological training. He adds that a major portion of Babcock’s turnover is generated by customer service contracts with over 500 premier brand name machines on contract at the present time.

He explains that as part of Babcock’s comprehensive aftermarket support capabilities, every customer has access to the following services: Power by the Hour, Volvo CareTrack, and a re-build offering.

Power by the HourPower by the Hour provides the owner with a fixed maintenance cost over an extended period of time based on a fixed sum per hour of machine usage. Machine owners are therefore assured of an accurate cost projection and largely avoid the costs associated with breakdowns. The contract includes the option of purchasing an extended warranty to give customers further peace of mind.

“Power by the Hour assists in protecting the residual value of a machine by increasing its future trade-in value and also aligns with the customer’s cash flow as they only pay when the machine is utilised,” says Buys. “An upfront rate is agreed upon that fixes the price of maintenance and parts for the first twelve months of the contract, allowing machine owners to forecast such costs with accuracy,” he continues. These tailor-made contracts transfer the risk of component failure away from the customer and relieve the owner of the need to stock components. There is no inventory for the customer to carry as Babcock technicians are equipped with all the necessary components and tools to service the machinery on site, thus improving up-time and productivity.

Buys says that a further advantage of the Power by the Hour service contract is access to technological progress – a benefit that is passed on to the customer. “We keep on top of the latest technological advancements ensuring that the customer not only receives the correct parts but also the latest available on the market. Furthermore, we have a fully functional training centre that offers courses to Babcock technicians as well as our customers,” explains Buys.

CareTrackCareTrack is the Volvo Construction Equipment telematics system which transfers data from machinery to Babcock’s dedicated internal service department. This remote monitoring system can be used to set service reminders in advance allowing sufficient time for the necessary resources to be deployed, and as an early warning system for potential component breakdown.

“With this system our technicians can identify when components need to be replaced or repaired, addressing any maintenance issues before they become costly problems later,” says Buys. He adds that the system can also be used to geo-fence machines and track operating hours.

Re-BuildThe rebuild offer is specifically geared towards the mining sector where machinery rapidly clocks up high production hours. Once a machine`s warranty has lapsed, customers are offered the option of refurbishment as opposed to trading in or buying new, where possible. This cost-saving alternative provides further hours of productivity from the refurbished machine, while Babcock parts and services extend the warranty for an additional 12 months.

Babcock’s aftersales support service is available across its extensive branch network throughout South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Botswana and Mozambique. Technicians can also be dispatched to remote locations in Africa with all the tools and diagnostics necessary to complete a service.

In accordance with the agreement signed recently, Goscor Group will set up a new entity within the Group as Goscor Earthmoving Equipment, to represent Sany

Earthmoving Equipment.“Upon assessment of the Sany

product range we recognised a number of key attractions,” says Neil Wilson, CEO of the Goscor Group. “Sany’s standard gauge earthmoving are of a high OEM spec and are built tough to operate anywhere – mining, construction or civils, coping with stringent local conditions.”

Wilson also affirms that alongside the impressive competitiveness of the Sany machines in terms of price and running costs, the large-sized equipment present a perfectly balance to the Group’s machine offering.

Sany Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd, Managing Director, David Xiao, emphasises the close ties the company has in South Africa noting a ten-year

long presence in the country. “The 1 000 machines sold into the local market is evidence of our commitment to this country and that not only are we weathering the ongoing economic doldrums, we are prospering. “We

are the largest equipment manufacturer in China and fifth biggest in the world, and it is our goal to take the number one position globally. “Offering large savings and return on capital investment, our equipment provides great value for customers and we are confident that we can mirror our success in China, the US, Europe, India in South Africa. But in order to fast track our strategy, we needed a strong, like-minded partner to take us forward. With industrial equipment as their core business, Goscor stood head and shoulders above their closets rivals. In addition to the necessary experience, market knowledge and know-how, Goscor boasts a reputation for supplying world-class brands supported by service excellence.”

Sany brings to this industrial table large high quality, robust value-for-money machines and technical strength. Xiao adds that easy finance of their capital equipment is offered through

Sany Capital Southern Africa.Xiao gives the assurance of Sany’s

commitment to supporting Goscor as their principle dealer. “We have readily available stock of machines and parts to a total value of over R200-million backed by a team of highly trained Sany technicians.”

Expounding on the dynamics of the deal Goscor Group, CEO Neil Wilson says that this partnership will form a cornerstone in the provision of quality, robust and reliable yellow plant equipment to the South Africa market. “We have supported the principle of supplying equipment of uncompromising quality to our customers. We know that Sany has been in the market for 10 years and with our backing and our expertise, our customers will benefit from an expanded product offering, parts holding as well as increased value and support.”

“The fact that this deal follows not long after the executive management buyout of Goscor shares from JSE listed Imperial Holdings bears testament to the ongoing growth and success of the industrial equipment powerhouse that the Goscor Group is today,” concludes Wilson. Operating from offices in Alrode, Alberton, south of Johannesburg, Sany will tie into Goscor’s expansive regional footprint and have access to its infrastructure and strategic network, giving customers immediate access to the Sany yellow equipment range.

CUSTOMISEDsolutions from Zest Power outages have become increasingly frequent with a widespread knock on impact being experienced across industry. The ability to provide fit-for-purpose standby power solutions is the mark that has distinguished Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division.

[ NEWS ]

Standby power solutions can range from a single diesel driven generator set to a total standby power solution depending on the size of the

building or project in question. Larger contracts often require a blend of smaller and larger generators to meet the needs of the various elements within the project. In all instances, fast reaction times from suppliers and the deployment of a reliable and durable generator set should be the standard.

Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division has built a solid reputation with a large number of clients over a diversity of industries, clearly demonstrating its capability to cater for large-scale standby power projects. A number of recent contract awards highlight the company’s

ability to provide solutions that range from standalone generator sets to turnkey power stations, such as the one supplied to AVI Group’s Indigo Brands.

This original equipment manufacturer is responsible for the total project management and control coordination, including the testing and commissioning of the entire system. Close cooperation with the customer ensures that the design of the standby power solution seamlessly integrates with the overall structure of the building to allow the equipment to be readily accommodated.

The scope of supply on the Indigo Brands project comprises three 1 000 kVA generator sets and three 1 000 kVA transformers. Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division is also designing a custom-built electrical panel for

distribution, interfacing and synchronisation purposes. The company will additionally be supplying a 23 000 litre bulk fuel tank system, as part of the optimum solution. In a recent refurbishment contract, a containerised standby power solution was supplied to a client at the V&A Waterfront. Craig Bouwer, projects and product manager at Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division explains that after discussions with the customer it was determined that this would provide the most cost effective solution. The project involved a ‘rig-out’ of the existing equipment from the original building, designing and fitting a sound proof canopy, louvres and base frame adaptor, to allow the generator set to be housed outdoors, as well as final testing of the newly containerised unit. Silo 1 tenant Allan Gray occupies a Green Star building that requires adherence to specific environmental regulations. Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division supplied a customised solution on this flagship project that met the latest European Tier 3 emissions-control regulations. The system, which incorporates specialised switching controls to ensure continuous power at a major data centre, is designed to reduce the exhaust emissions from diesel-powered generators, which include

nitrogen, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and particulate matter in the form of any visible smoke and soot.

In addition, the company supplied and installed inlet and outlet air sound attenuated splitters that meet the sound level requirements of 65 db(A) at 7 metres. This contract forms part of the larger Silo Precinct project, which calls for five 500 kVA generator sets that synchronise with a common control panel. “The V&A Waterfront is only one of many flagship projects that Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division has been involved with. Another notable project is Century City, a 250 ha mixed use development in Cape Town that combines office, retail, residential and leisure elements. We are in the process of supplying and installing one 400 kVA and two 800 kVA generator sets for the Urban Square residential, hotel and conference project at Century City,” says Bouwer.

“A particular challenge we encountered at Urban Square was that we were required to provide solutions and designs for irregular room sizes and exhaust runs. The ability to remain flexible and devise customised solutions is a hallmark of our capability as a supplier of non-standardised generator set solutions,” Bouwer continues.

In yet another customised solution project, Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division was contracted to supply, install and test an 800 kVA generator set into a purpose-built plant room at the Melomed Private Hospital in Tokai, which is currently under construction by Murray & Roberts Western Cape. “The generator set measured 4 metres long by 1.6 metres wide and 2.3 metres high and weighed almost 9 tons. Inlet and outlet acoustic louvres were required to ensure that the noise level remains under 65 db(A) at 7 metres. We also supplied a purpose-built changeover electric panel for remote mounting,” says Bouwer. Key to Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division’s success on such specialised projects is its ability to devise innovative solutions. A prime example of this is the contract to supply a standby power supply for worker accommodation at the DRA Minerals Firestone Diamonds Liqhobong Diamond Mine in Lesotho. A major challenge encountered by the Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division team was the location of the mine, which is positioned 2 000 metres above sea level

in the Maluti Mountains. Not only did special consideration have to be given to the logistics of transporting all components to the site, but the presence of significant amounts of snow during May to September called for an innovative solution to the housing of the generator sets. The Liqhobong Diamond Mine access road had to be widened and its load-bearing capacity increased to accommodate the low-bed trucks transporting the generator set solution.

Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division designed, supplied and installed three 12 metre high purpose-built containers that incorporate a special ‘snow roof’ structure to prevent snow build-up on top of the generator sets, and subsequent blocking of the louvres. Particular attention was paid to the design and engineering of these ‘snow roofs’ to enable them to be collapsed when the containerised units are transported. The three 630 kVA generator sets needed to be synchronised via Woodward Easygen controllers and were subject to a soundproofing requirement of 65 db(A) at 7 metres. This stringent standard is normally applied to residential areas but was deemed necessary, since the application was for worker accommodation. Further requirements were for a 1 000 litre fuel tank with gauge and level indicators and a fusible fire link on the generator sets and inlet dust filters. Furthermore, a 6 metre load distribution container, with a self-contained fire suppression system, was also provided. Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division offers 20 kVA units up to 250 kVA off-the-shelf products, 300 kVA to 2 000 kVA individual customised units as well as multiple sets to achieve turnkey solutions in excess of 12 MVA for large-scale applications or projects. All gensets are sold with a standard 12 month warranty, and maintenance contracts are also available for all applications. A notable differentiator is that the company offers a 24/7 breakdown support service. “Zest WEG Group’s Generator Set Division has an extensive reference base of customised solutions for challenging and arduous applications. Leveraging the experience gained by our technical team on an impressive number and variety of projects in both the commercial and industrial markets, we are able to mitigate any power supply problems for the medium and long term,” Bouwer concludes.

SUCCESSFULopen day for Case CASE Construction Equipment has held for the first time in the Sub-Saharan region, EAGLE DAYS, a three-day event to provide product and commercial training for sales professional throughout the region and to show customers the extraordinary performance of the Case range in the field.

The event, held at the Johannesburg premises of dealer CSE, included two days of intensive training attended by salesmen from all parts of

South Africa, Mozambique, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The third day was dedicated to customers, with an impressive show and product demonstration from expert CASE operators that surprised the numerous customers invited to take part to the event.

Over 120 customers had the possibility to see crawler excavators, graders, wheel loaders, backhoe loaders and skid steers at work and to receive advice from Case product specialists on the best machine for each application.

“The response to our EAGLE DAYS event in Johannesburg was outstanding,” said Franco Invernizzi, Senior Business Director CNH Industrial Construction

Equipment for Africa and Middle East.“Our CASE dealers throughout Sub-

Saharan Africa really appreciated the work that had been put in by our EMEA Commercial Training team and the staff at CSE, who made all of us feel so welcome”.

Training and demonstrationThe CASE Commercial Training Team provided both in-depth product walk-arounds in the demonstration area and classroom sessions under a marquee erected beside the demo field.

“The EAGLE DAYS is a proven format that is a real energy boost and motivational tool for the CASE salesmen,” said Francesco Tesio, CASE CE EMEA Commercial Training Manager.

“The two days of training on CASE machines are preliminary to the great show of the third day, which enhances the relationship between salesmen and

customers. Our Commercial Training Team, made up of ‘experts for the real World’, has delivered this format in Africa in Tunisia, in 2015 and will replicate it in the Middle East during the autumn of 2016”.

Open dayAfter a welcome from CSE and CASE management, South African TV anchorman Derek Watts became the Master of Ceremonies for the Open Day dedicated to customers. This involved two special CASE machine shows in the CSE Arena, a Lucky Draw and many machinery demonstrations.

The Customer EAGLE DAY was well received by both dealers and customers.

“It was very well organized and a very informative event,” said Thomas van Niekerk, from CASE customer GLC Group. “The key to the success of the

event was having the CASE machinery operators from Europe to demonstrate the equipment.”

GLC Group Owner Gerhard Conradie agreed, saying: “It was a delightful experience and gave us a really good feeling towards CASE.”

Among the most popular machines on display were the 885B grader, the 821F wheel loader and the CX210B crawler excavator, though there was something for everyone with a wide range of light equipment available, including the 570T backhoe-loader and SR175 skid steer.

“It was an awesome day and I really enjoyed the display of equipment,” said Ashwin Romalall Avka, owner of South African firm Avka Plant Hire.

The EAGLE DAYS proved equally popular with CASE dealer personnel, who were able to really get to grips with some of the equipment.

“As always it was a great day from the CASE family,” said Jason Smith, from Zimbabwean dealer Univern Enterprises. “Thank you for including us and we appreciate your support and dedication to the dealers.”

“Dealers and customers had the chance to really understand the benefits and positive attributes of a wide range of CASE equipment, giving us the opportunity to demonstrate the savings that we can make and the productivity benefits that they can experience with our machinery. The success of the event means that this

will not be the last Eagle Days for the Sub-Saharan region,” said Mr Invernizzi.

”The event was well organized and the highly skilled CASE operators enthralled the crowds with their demonstrations and maneuvers in the field. CSE received positive feedback from both customers and dealers alike,” said CSE Dealer Divisional Managing Director Brenton Kemp. And as one customer said: “The bar has been set for future such events of this type,” .

All of the attending customers and dealers entered their business cards into a surprise draw, with prizes including three EAGLE DAYS-branded car fridges, along with two spare parts vouchers to the value of R10 000 (Rand) offered by CSE.

The EAGLE DAYS proved equally popular with CASE dealer personnel,

who were able to really get to grips with some of the equipment.

The success of the event means that this will not be the last Eagle Days for the

Sub-Saharan region,” said Mr Invernizzi.”The event was well organized and

the highly skilled CASE operators enthralled the crowds with their demonstrations and maneuvers in the field.

Recently, the lifting specialist was appointed by Azari Wind (Azari) to provide crane services for the installation of 37 wind

generators at Enel Green Power’s 111 MW Gibson Bay Wind Farm in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, overseen by Nordex Energy South Africa (Nordex).

This is one of the latest wind projects

to be developed under the South African government’s internationally acclaimed Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP) programme. Under this programme, Johnson Crane Hire has already provided crane services to install more than 100 wind turbines.

However, this does not mean that the company has become complacent at all,

with this project providing ample opportunity for the company to hone its skills, according to Johnson Crane Hire’s Brandon Grange.

A Liebherr LG 1750 is being used to lift and install the four tower sections (50 to 60 tons each), a nacelle (55 tons), drive train (62.3 tons), hub (35 tons) and three blades (11.2 tons and 57 metres in length each). The crane is fitted with about 245

tons of counterweights, and joined by a Liebherr LTM 1400-7.1 to help lift the blades.

The cranes deployed on this contract – a Liebherr LTM 1160-2 and LTM 1095-5.1 – are also tasked with placing the various components in the storage areas when they arrive on site. They are transported by two multi-axle trailers to the various pads, with the entire process co-ordinated with Azari’s installation team. It takes about two days to relocate the cranes to the different pads where the lifts are being undertaken.

The lifts started early in May, following a three month preparation period that included the involvement of all of the engineers working on the project.

Johnson Crane Hire’s working policies and procedures also underwent a full audit by Nordex and Azari to ensure safety and quality on the construction site.

Grange is convinced that Gibson Bay Wind Farm will be yet another successful project where the South African lifting contractor has had the opportunity to showcase its prowess to an international engineering community.

Raico SA and Seijiro Yazawa Iwai (SYI), two Liebherr dealers, have been appointed in the mining-focused countries of Chile

and Venezuela respectively while REPAS Sociedad Anónima, a Hyundai dealer, has been appointed in Argentina.

Bell Equipment Regional Marketing Manager, Llewellyn Roux says: “We have appointed like-minded companies that have proven capacity to support a growing machine population with spare parts and dedicated service. These are well established dealers with existing sales and support networks that have their own rental fleets as well as direct sales. We have also purposely aligned

with existing dealers in the region that have a full range of loading tools. By adding our Bell trucks to their offering, these dealers are now able to deliver a quality full line solution to their customers.”

RAICO’s Cristóbal Alexandroff said, “We are very happy to be able to add a world class brand such as Bell to our product offering. Our philosophy as RAICO SA has always been to ‘sell the lowest cost per handled ton with a customer service oriented structure,’ and this is exactly what Bell offers. We believe that the Bell ADTs are a perfect match for our earthmoving and mining portfolio and will open up opportunities with business areas, customers and

tenders that we couldn’t previously tackle. These trucks will also be an important addition to our rental fleet. We feel that we are a part of the strong reliable support, for Bell Equipment’s strong reliable machines.”

Vice President of SYI, Mitsuru M Yazawa commented: “We are happy to bring our partnership with Bell a step forward, allowing us to strengthen our product portfolio for our Heavy Machinery Division. Our company’s philosophy is to accompany products from first class manufacturers with a very solid service operation: factory trained / customer oriented technicians, service vehicles, tools and infrastructure. We look forward to a long term and successful relationship.”

Meanwhile, Repas SA, which has 50 years of machine trading experience in Argentina, entered into the mining and primary rock production segment in recent years and a partnership will Bell was a natural business progression. Repas SA Vice President, Pablo Schulzen explains: “Our family-owned board took the decision to enter this segment influenced by market demand and the growth of Hyundai Heavy Industries and Terex – our long term and internationally renowned alliances. This new challenge includes gaining market penetration for our new players, such as Terex Finlay crushers and screens, Soosan breakers and drills and now Bell ADTs, which will transport from the blast to crush. The first Bell B30E has arrived in Argentina and we expect to have it working in one of the country’s leading quarries in due course. It is our hope to have success in

The appointment of three new dealers in South America in recent months has positioned South African heavy equipment manufacturer and Articulated Dump Truck (ADT) specialist, Bell Equipment, to expand its footprint and market share on the continent.

BELL SPREADS its dealer footprint across South America

The first Bell B30E Articulated Dump Truck has arrived in Argentina following the appointment of Repas SA as the Bell dealer in thecountry. Repas SA, along with Raico SA and Seijiro Yazawa Iwai (SYI), are three recently appointed dealers in South America.

this new challenge and to be part of the new and successful South American Bell network.”

The new dealer appointments come at an opportune time considering SNL Metals & Mining data, which shows planned capital spending in the South American mining sector increased by almost US$50 billion from October 2015 to April 2016. Roux says, “We saw signs of this at Bauma 2016 in April where we noticed a large number of South American visitors on our stand as well as representation from all our dealers, which was very pleasing and exciting.”

Bell Equipment has a strong history and brand awareness in South America through its appointed dealer, Latin Equipment, which has sold the OEM’s Tri-Wheeler forestry and agricultural products in Chile and Argentina for many years. This footprint is currently growing with expansion into the sugarcane farming areas in the north of the continent.

However, the opportunity to market the company’s core product in South America, the ADT, only presented itself in 2013, when a distribution agreement to sell Bell ADTs in the Americas under the John Deere label came to an end.

Since this time Bell Equipment has actively pursued the South American market with the appointment in 2014 of Mercovil, a Hyundai dealer in Colombia, the continent’s third largest economy behind Brazil and Argentina. The appointment of MS Sales and Services in Panama followed in 2015 to cover the Central Americas and Caribbean.

Mercovil’s Vice President: Commercial and New Developments, Francisco Mora Uribe recalls that when the company undertook to sell Bell dumpers in Colombia three years ago, to become the first distributors of the South African brand in South America, they faced the challenge of convincing traditional ADT users, who had been long standing supporters of other brands, for decades.

“We strategically placed a number of units in our Colombian market with various customers and in different types of operations to thoroughly test the trucks in our rough conditions. Colombian conditions include severe slopes, a difficult climate with high

temperatures and humidity as well as working above 3 500 metres above sea level. The Bell ADTs have demonstrated high levels of performance in all working conditions and we now offer Bell trucks as a premium brand based on the evidence in the workplace. They achieved better results than the traditional ADT brands in terms of fuel burn, productivity and performance in quarry, road construction and mining applications,” he said.

“Today some of these Bell trucks work 20 hours a day, 364 days a year. After 12 months Bell trucks give the best indicators of availability, fuel consumption and production so with the imminent start of large infrastructure projects in Colombia, like the 4G, (fourth generation pathways) we believe that Bell is definitely a competitor robust enough to position itself as one of the leading players in Colombia market.”

Continues Roux: “These existing dealers have performed well considering the economic challenges of the region in terms of weak commodity prices and exchange rate fluctuations. We’ve been able to quickly grow market share in North America and we will be looking to further develop our dealer network to leverage spin-off in South America.

“We see opportunity for Bell on the continent due to the quality of our ADT product and its suitability to the South American environment, which experiences high rainfall in some areas and high ambient temperatures in others. With our African heritage, Bell Trucks have been specifically designed and manufactured for these conditions, and they have proven to be well priced and well accepted,” he says.

To fully support its dealer development and ensure a high standard of customer service Bell Equipment will undertake sales and technical support training during the course of the year. The company’s International Product Support team will similarly be conducting ‘First-of-Family’ machine handovers, coinciding with the 100-hour service of machines already in the field, to provide hands-on training. Technicians from the dealerships will also be sent to Bell Equipment’s South African factory for additional training.

While GLTC has won several awards for their performance over the years from Doosan, this is the first time they have won the global Dealer of the Year Award.

Brenham appointed distributor in GaboroneIn true Goscor Lift Truck Company (GLTC) style, it is moving fast. After a decision to increase its footprint in the SADC region it has recently appointed several new distributors in neighbouring countries. The latest is the appointment, in Gaborone, Botswana, of Brenham, a general industrial sales and service organisation, which is owned and managed by Ronnie van der Nest and David Nunes both highly experienced practitioners in the servicing and selling of machinery.

Experiencing the world of intralogistics up closeLinde Material Handling hosted for the time its “World of Material Handling (WoMH)”, a customer event that is unique throughout the industry. Under the motto “Linked Perspectives”, this year the focus was on major future issues such as networking, automation, customisation and energy systems. Over a period of two and a half weeks there will be fixed dates for visits by various groups of guests from Germany and abroad. The themed performance showcase will be held in the “Fredenhagen” industrial hall in Offenbach, just outside Frankfurt and close to the international airport..

“It’s all survived the April, and first week public holidays of May, so it’s back to business as usual. And talking to various industry members and Original

Equipment Manufacturers, high on the priority list is service and after-market parts availability. While new sales have been on a small decline, the focus is to maintain a high level of service to customers and their machines in the industry.

“It is tough out there.” That is the general feeling of the forklift industry. “If it wasn’t for our service contracts I don’t know what we would have done,” said one of the OEMs. We all have felt the pinch even the yellow-metal, mining, quarrying and local original equipment manufacturers of the industry have agreed that all of them are facing a challenging year. As we enter the last quarter of the year, I do hope that we have a peaceful election and that the economy will show a positive increase.

What I do know, and have said this before, we are survivors and the most creative industry to keep our heads above water in difficult times. Ed

For facilitation of daily work the Linde Safety Pilot (LSP) offers several functionalities to the driver, which let the work with a Linde forklift truck safer and more efficient.

There are two versions of the Linde Safety Pilot. The scope of the “Select”package includes different options: Weighing, lifting, height pre-selection, lowering stop, driving dynamic

selection, high speed and a huge variety of other comfort functions.

The “Active” package intervenes in limiting values in a regulatory manner, which leads to safer working conditions. An electric display constantly informs the driver permanently of the actual situation.

Doosan Dealer of the Year announced

In a recent ceremony at the Doosan factory in Korea, Goscor Lift Truck Company (GLTC) was awarded the global Doosan Forklift Dealer of the Year 2015. While GLTC has won several awards for their performance over the years from Doosan, this is the first time they have won the global Dealer of the Year Award.

Daryl Shafto, GLTC MD, says that he is delighted at having won this award. “2015 was a very special year for us and especially in the internal combustion (IC) market where

we exceeded our targets both from a financial and a unit sales perspective and increased our forklift market share by 4% in South Africa. This is the result of an exceptional effort from Sales Director, Patrick Barber and his team and, in fact, the entire company. We are all humbled that this was recognised by our Doosan principals in Korea,” says Shafto.

Kun Hwa Lee, Executive Director of Doosan Lift Trucks, says that GLTC deserve this award for their outstanding performance.“We have been with Goscor since 1994 and each year there has been an improvement. In 2015 the performance of Darryl Shafto and his team was outstanding. The full story is not only GLTC exceeding their budgets but it is in their overall approach to business. Their service is world class and they have developed excellent relationships with their customers, principals and suppliers. They also have an outstanding team spirit, which has obviously helped

them in their successes. I am very pleased to have been able to hand over this award to this fine company and I look forward to many more years of successful business with them,” says Lee.

Shafto says that Doosan has always been way ahead in terms of innovative forklift technology – the ‘brakes for life’ system, introduced several years back, being an excellent example. The ‘brakes for life’ system, which made world headlines when it was introduced and still a very prevalent feature on Doosan forklifts, is an oil-cooled disc brake system, which, being totally enclosed, eliminates all outside contamination of any humid, abrasive or corrosive dust particles. The system significantly reduces operating costs and GLTC offers on it a 60-month, unlimited hours guarantee.

Shafto says that Doosan is now 50% of Goscor’s business and that it will play a significant role in the future growth and development of the company. “We see the IC market as key going forward and I have no doubt that this prestigious award will motivate the team to go the extra mile in making Doosan an even more important player in the southern African market.

Goscor Lift Truck Company (GLTC) was recently awarded the global Doosan Forklift Dealer of the Year 2015. Left to right: Charlie Jung (Deputy General Manager), Carl Lee (General Manager), Kun H. Experiencingthe world of intralogistics up closeLinde Material Handling hosted for the time its “World of Material Handling (WoMH)”, a customer event that is unique throughout the industry.

Under the motto ‘Linked Perspectives’, this year the focus was on major future issues such as networking, automation, customisation and energy systems.

Over a period of two and a half weeks there will be fixed dates for visits by various guests from Germany and abroad. The themed performance showcase will be held in the ‘Fredenhagen’ industrial hall in Offenbach, just outside Frankfurt and close to the international airport.

Linde offered visitors various experiences and information areas in 12 000 square meters of space, utilising a variety of presentation forms, according to each topic. Exhibition areas, 3D media shows, expert forums, product demonstrations and discovery zones will ensure a varied programme. With this year’s focus on ‘Linked Perspectives,’ Linde addresses the major trends in intralogistics irrespective of innovation cycles and directs the visitors’ attention to an ever more digitised and networked world. “Nowhere else but at the WoMH are exclusively invited guests offered the chance to obtain such comprehensive information about the capabilities of Linde. They will take home with them ideas for improving their own internal material flow,” that’s the firm conviction of Manfred Höhn, Head of Marketing Communication and Branding, WoMH at Linde. On display are the latest products and technologies, services and software solutions, as well as an extensive range of innovations and new products that will soon be launched on the market soon – such as the electric counterbalanced truck “Linde Roadster,” for example. By eliminating the A pillar, the vehicle gives the driver a panoramic view of the roadway environment. Numerous partner

companies make sure with their own exhibitions and presentations that adjacent to product areas and technology fields are integrated too and provide visitors with added value.

Moreover, Linde looks at the future of industrial truck-based goods handling at the WoMH, including Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things. With a 3D virtual experience study, Linde provides a vision of what an industrial truck might look like in the future and what particular features it could have.

“Following our comprehensive performance showcase two years ago, this year we are focusing on a total of four key areas of expertise that will be crucial for our customers in the next few years,” Höhn explains. “Businesses are facing major challenges. We want to show them that we can accompany them on their way and offer the right solutions.”

Brenham appointed distributor in Gaborone

In true Goscor Lift Truck Company (GLTC) style, is moving fast. After a decision to increase its footprint in the SADC region it has recently appointed several new distributors in neighbouring countries.

The latest is the appointment, in Gaborone, Botswana, of Brenham, a general industrial sales and service organisation, which is owned and managed by Ronnie van der Nest and David Nunes both highly experienced

practitioners in the servicing and selling of machinery.Randhir Haripersad, Goscor Group GM Africa, says that he is

optimistic about the possibilities in Botswana with Brenham in place. “Both Ronnie and David are motivated and experienced and we know that they will do justice to the Goscor range of materials handling equipment (MHE) in Botswana.”

He adds that Goscor and Brenham are up against some well-established competition in the region.“But with our proven product excellence and Brenham’s skills, I believe that we will make significant inroads for local distribution and service in a short space of time,” says Haripersad.

Ronnie van der Nest agrees. “We are very excited about the future here and we have no doubt that our market share in the MHE space will grow quickly. Even though we only very recently concluded the rights to distribute GLTC product here we have already been inundated with enquiries. There is no doubt that the Goscor reputation for excellence in both product and service precedes us in this country and we will use this to build an outstanding distribution and service business,” says van der Nest.

It has been agreed that Brenham will start with a few Goscor products and initially will sell mainly Doosan and the Crown range of MHE. “A slow and methodical start is the way we will go and soon we will be able to start increasing the product line,” concludes Haripersad.
