Activities for the Play’s End

Now that we have concluded our play, it is time to demonstrate your understanding of the story. Casting the Play Identify Moral Dilemmas Creating a Comic Strip Illustrating Quotations Shakespeare Re-Told Film or Record a Scene Song Parody

Pretend you are casting the play with famous people. Choose FIVE characters from the play and fill each role with a famous person, explaining

your choice in approximately 100 words;

OR Pretend you are casting the play with people from our class here at Montague Regional

High School. Choose FIVE characters from the play and fill each role with a MRHS student, briefly

explaining your choice in about one hundred words. Your cast must be developed in a power point file with accompanying pictures and

write-ups. You will not be required to present these.

Every story or play involves some difficult moral questions (the sorts of questions you struggle with your conscience over). For Julius Caesar, pose FIVE difficult moral questions and then provide possible

answers to those questions in roughly 100-150 words each. This should be submitted in a word document, double spaced in proper MLA

format.

Create a TWELVE to FIFTEEN panel comic strip which accurately tells the story of one part of the play. Make sure you choose a significant event or happening. It does not have to be done in color, but make your artwork clear. For those of you who wish, you’re encouraged to use software/websites like

Bitstrips (example coming up)

Choose FIVE important quotations from the play and create an illustration for each one. This must be original artwork. You may submit these as five separate sheets, or create one larger poster/collage.

Update the setting, time, storyline, and characters of the play to fit members of our English class. Think of a modern re-telling of the play and use members of our class as the

characters. Re-enact a scene that is at least 150 lines. The longer the scene, the better. This should be submitted in a word document, double spaced, in proper MLA

format.

Film a Scene Groups of students (maximum of 4 from this class) could perform a scene from the

play together on video. Students from other classes may participate, if so desired. The video must be clear and audible and all students, being graded, must share equally in the presentation.

Record a Scene Using audio equipment (at home or in school), you will record a vital scene from

Julius Caesar. Ensure that you use sound effects, voice pitch and pace (and accent, if possible).

Write a song parody, using the plot of Julius Caesar, as your subject. The parody should borrow the tune of a popular song and substitute its lyrics for

your own. You should find an instrumental version of the song you wish to cover (this can be

easily found on YouTube) and create a slideshow (or some sort of video) that runs the song melody and your original lyrics at once (so Mr. Kelly can use it for his Friday night Karaoke parties).

Lyrics should also be submitted in a word document, double spaced in proper MLA format.

If you actually want to perform it, not only will you be revered by your classmates, you MAY be the first act signed to Mr. Kelly’s new record label.

These activities will replace the Socratic Seminar assessment for our Shakespeare unit.

All activities are due no later than Friday, January 9, 2015 You have been given EIGHT options. Your objective is to complete THREE. Be as creative as you can!
