Welcome to NPower’s 2013 Gala. Helping individuals and communities thrive – that’s what NPower, with your help, does every day – especially this evening.

Bringing the tech community together for social good.

Tonight we celebrate the tech industry’s commitment to making

the world a better place.

NPower’s mission

NPower helps nonprofits, schools, and individuals build tech skills

by harnessing the power of the tech community.

What we’ve accomplished together

Through The Community Corps, tech volunteers have already donated 11,000 hours

of service to nonprofits and schools, mentoring children and young women, manning

hotlines to answer teacher’s and student’s tech questions, building websites and tech

assessments to improve the technology of nonprofits so they can do what they do best;

whether thats feeding more hungry or housing more homeless. Together we’ve done

alot – but there is so much more to do.

Thanks to you, Technology Service Corps will have graduated over 170 students this

year including its largest ever class of young adults in NYC and its first class of veterans

in Dallas. TSC, now with over 700 alumni, enables young adults and veterans to pursue

STEM careers by providing free tech and professional skills training and internships. At

Page 3: NPower 2013 Digital Journal

a cost per student of $6,000, every employed TSC grad over their life adds $1 million

in estimated value to society. Together we can help more young adults and vets have

brighter futures.

This evening

Tonight we gather to celebrate these achievements and to honor Tom Georgens, CEO

of NetApp, and newly appointed NPower board member Mike Gregoire, CEO of CA

Technologies. Mike and Tom are two extraordinary examples of business leaders truly

committed to NPower’s mission.

NPower’s positive impact is undeniable and, thanks to our amazing community,

including our Board and Councils who provide endless leadership and advice, our

future is bright.

But the challenges grow everyday – the STEM gap grows wider, more youth and vets

sit on the sidelines while tech jobs go unfilled, and nonprofits and schools increasingly

struggle as tech becomes more critical to achieving their mission.

This evening we invite you to join the NPower community. Get personally engaged.

Introduce your network to NPower. Let’s address the world’s challenges together and

show the incredible power of the tech community.

Thank you for joining us this evening – thank you

for supporting NPower!

VIRTUAL VOLUNTEERS INSPIRING TODAY’S YOUTH

At Digital Wish, teachers make technology wishes, and donors make those wishes come true with contributions.

Since 2009, Digital Wish has granted over 30,400 classroom technology wishes through its online network of teachers, and delivered over $13 million in technology products to American classrooms, directly impacting over 500,000 students.

This year Digital Wish partnered with The Community Corps to pilot a new initiative engaging virtual tech volunteers to support its network of 62,000 teachers nationwide. Through NPower’s volunteer program,

The Community Corps, a team of 15 Bank of America technology professionals staffed a “Virtual Help Desk” for a month, answering close to 500 technology and career questions from teachers and students. The team collectively donated 224 hours or $33,600 worth of service to schools nationwide.

Digital Wish invited teachers to email the Virtual Help Desk with either traditional “IT support” questions or have students email “IT Careers” questions. The volunteers handled a variety of topics on everything from computer viruses to Excel to career questions like how to become a game designer, how playing with Legos can lead to an engineering career or even the very simple how to set up a “business model like Apple.”

NPower and Digital Wish are working towards making this an ongoing program that will support technology education in schools, and help inspire students about technology careers.

BUILDING BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR OUR VETERANS MEET ROGER NUNEZ

ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2013 Roger Nunez was among the twenty proud armed-forces veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars that graduated from the NPower Dallas Technology Service Corps (TSC), an innovative, veteran-focused technology job training program launched in April 2013. Roger Nunez served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman. While serving on navy vessels he learned about communications, technology, and core values. Even with his skill set he faced unemployment.

Through the help of the Texas Workforce Commission, Robert was introduced to the TSC program and was selected from the initial pool of over 1400 applicants. He participated in the rigorous 22 weeks of study, and 15 weeks of intensive class-based training, learning skills such as installing, configuring and troubleshooting computer hardware and software and providing web design and maintenance. The curriculum is based on the Cisco Networking Academy, which prepares program graduates like Robert for employment in a range of technology positions, including technical, business and project analysis. “The program shows the same types of values I feel are essential to make it work and help other veterans in the future.” said Nunez. With a dedicated staff and supportive environment he was able to achieve his A+ certification and an apprenticeship with Citi financial for a better out look into a new career. enty proud armed-
