What’s the Plan?
ObjectiveTo enable participants to familiarise themselves with some
of the latest technologies that can be used to promote Teaching & Learning in the classroom.
Outcomes• To have used Data Logging with a variety of sensors • To have built or edited a WIKI• To have constructed or viewed Blog(s)• To have produced a Podcast• To have considered using custom motion paths in
PowerPoint

Wikis and VLEs• A Wiki can allow you and your whole class to collaborate on a
project towards a common aim. Examples…http://hertssciencenqts2012.pbworks.com
• There are loads of good sites to use to create a Wiki. One of the best is PBWorks.com
• Feel free to edit the above site and add a new page each, to share your resources and teaching tips. All you need to do is open an account to edit – use your school email.
• Safety first! Use a VLE in preference to a WIKI if you can.

Data Logging
• Instructions are provided. Use a range of sensors to generate data sets and consider how this could be used in class, both for demonstration and whole-class purposes.

Podcasts• A Podcast is usually an audio clip that can be
accessed via the web and can be downloaded onto a mp4 player.
• These are simple to produce using free software such as Audacity.
• Very useful for students to produce their own revision material.
• Can also produce a sound track for a movie...

Videos• Homemade videos can be a very
useful tool to support the learning inside and outside of the classroom.
• They can be produced very simply with a cheap digital camera (e.g. the Flip Cams that arrived in your school last year!) and editing software such as MovieMaker

Blogging• A blog (is short for web log) and is a perfect
vehicle for communicating with students out of the classroom, by providing materials that can be used to continue T and L.
• A simple program to use is Blogger, which is free (owned by Google).
• Example www.eveschemistry.blogspot.com• Instructions can be found at,
