Visitors Survey Analysis

During the Zone Level Science Fair for Young Children 2013, the teachers were requested to take part in the Teachers Survey and there were a total of 151 teachers (Perak-34, Melaka-35, Pahang-17, Johor-20, KL& Selango-10, Penang-15, and Negeri Sembilan-20) have taken part. The results of the survey as shown below:

Based on the Figure 1, majority of the teachers rated that the experiment title given to them was interesting whereas 7 teachers rated that it was poor and below average. Besides that, when they were asked about the availability of the materials and information for their titles, most of the teachers rated good and very good which can be concluded as they manage to find the materials and information easily.

Figure 2 shows that, majority of the teachers were very much satisfied with the event agenda except few teachers from Perak, Melaka, Pahang, Johor and Negeri Sembilan. In terms of the booth allocation, the teachers in Melaka were not very much satisfied because 28 of them rated poor, below average and average. In other states, they were very much happy with the booth allocation given to them. During the Zone Level Science Fair, the teachers were satisfied with Food and Beverages provided by the coordinators. Again only few teachers, around 1 to 4 rated poor and below average for the Food and Beverages provided.

Beside that they also have learned Science and different method of teaching science through science fair. Mostly all the teachers would like to access various science experiments and past science fair experiments through science fair website.

Figure 6 shows that 59% of the teachers who participated in the survey would be happy if the National Science Fair changed from 2.5 day event to one day event. They reasons given by the teachers are as below:

• Easy to us to do further arrangements• Have to contribute in other events• It take times and disturbances for the learning process especially primary schools ,please do

National Science Fair for Young Children 2013 ANNUAL REPORT

• Weekends are holidays for teachers. We could like to have a rest day after science fair• Those are coming from far need rest• I will prefer for 2days because of the travelling distance. We need to prepare for the next day• It’s very tired to make preparation for next day. (school)• Save time• time limitation, overall ok ,but please do consider the topics• Work load is increases and lack of commitment from school teachers• Disturb school days because of P&P in school• Difficult to get permission in school day.(Sunday and Monday is school days for kedah)• it’s good for teachers who have small children at home• Travelling make the students very tired. So please considered• Can save time• Some of the parents too paranoid for letting their kids to stay alone in hostel without teacher

care. If the school is unable to provide both female and male teachers • We can save time.• The concept of the science fair should be change. I suggest it might be more to hands on

experiment so that the students can be judged fully on their knowledge. I don’t prefer the major project which not suite all schools.

• It can save time of people’s and teachers. They also will be more relaxed. • It will be more convenient for the pupils and teachers to back to school on Monday.

General Comments• Condition of board(booth)must be upgrade.• Conduct aerospace activity for students and viewers knowledge.• If can, please let stay at GMI itself, please relate science fair topics with curriculum specification.

Let say, football topics, is that discussion of expect related to primary school topic, please do consider .

• We always behind you? , Today’s teachers become researchers.• People’s were very tired.• The experiment must carry out by students and not by teachers, it must prepare by students

and not by teachers or parents.• Environment of accommodation was very poor.• Overall event is well carried out, students participation has shown a good results.• Many teachers can involve.• Can give new experiment, very good event must be continue.• Its good event to make our generation toward science field.• The event must continue.• Update the science based contest in nsfyc website.• Booth location must be considered again and the setup should be given to the school before

the event, so that school teachers could arrange the things earlier. We provide enough information and conducted further experiment to make the outcome of the experiment be concentrate and process to be transparent. Effectiveness of science fair really satisfying. Plus minus is common thing and 90% i feel comfortable and happy with this kind of programmes.

• We should carry on the activity at the same place. Next time need a bit large booth to add the information. We need a guide or anyone to contact and get details from them on had to get information about the topic. Please suggest to hm, to come out with science fair gallery. So we won’t upset when they are throwing our hard work for 6 months. The science fair must be continues.

• Hope can provide better accommodation for next year.

Figure 5 shows the visitors suggestion on Students Training, Parents Training and Participation for Science fair 2014. Out of 146 visitors who were surveyed 115 to 132 visitors much interested to take part in parents training, students training and also Science Fair 2014.

General Comments• The purpose of having science fair has reached the people• Please update the events in website• Surrounding of hall quiet good but the facilities in hostels are in poor condit1on. • Media only astro vanavil. Good if extend• Good keep it up. Extend booth space. Good keep going• The public are aware about this competition.• More foods should be given to visitor• To continue promote science fair for secondary schools. Go beyond the national level in

future. Do not stop till national level. To improve toilet cleaniless. Some are too advanced which i guess not suitable or match the age of students

• Should use the main media• Kindly continue this kind of science fair until secondary schools and universities• Prepare more chairs for pupils to take their meals• The timing should be decrease so the teacher and students can take rest on sunday went

back to school on monday.• Experimental model i want the panel advice the schools to do not make something out of

the students ability (which is not their own work) because it will let the other school who are honest become demotivated.

• They must did it more reality• Update more information in website. Add more bigger space for schools to add more

information• Get through banting• Delay of time. Not flowing agenda• Flyers very less
