It is indeed a great pleasure for me to be informed that under the supervision of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Bangladesh Tourism Board is hosting the PATA New Tourism Frontiers Forum-16 in Cox’s Bazar to be held during 23-25 November 2016.

The tourism industry has appeared as a major income-driving industry in many developing/middle-income countries in the world. There is an enormous number of academic and policy literature that show that the positive thriving tourism sector can have positive impacts on economic growth and development of countries. Bangladesh is blessed with natural beauty, ranging from mountains to rivers to beaches to bio-diversity. It possesses the longest natural beach in the world in Cox’s Bazaar as well as the largest mangrove forest in the world at the Sundarbans. The government of Bangladesh has recognized the potential of tourism industry and provides necessary supports which will ensure positive multitude economic impacts such as employment generation and GDP growth enhancement.

In line with “Visit Bangladesh” 2016-2018 campaign Bangladesh is going to host some international tourism events in Bangladesh in collaboration with UNWTO, PATA, OIC, BIMSTEC, ACD and other international organizations for promoting Bangladesh as a popular tourist’s destination globally. This event will definitely play an important role to create a positive image of Bangladesh in the world.

It is matter of great pleasure that under the supervision of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Bangladesh Tourism Board is hosting the PATA New Tourism Frontiers Forum-16 in Cox’s Bazar from 23-25 November 2016.

Under the promotional campaign “Visit Bangladesh” we are going to host some international tourism events in Bangladesh in collaboration with various international organizations specially UNWTO and PATA to find out the way for the entire development and promotion of Bangladesh Tourism. The discussion on the theme of the event “Designing a sustainable tourism brand-an integrative approach to building a responsible coastal destination” will pave the way to popularize Cox’s Bazar as a sustainable coastal tourism destination in the world.

According to WTTC forecast the total contribution of Travel & Tourism in national GDP of Bangladesh will rise by 6.1% in 2016 and total contribution to employment will rise by 2.3% in 2016. Utilizing the huge tourism potentials of the country, Bangladesh Tourism is trying to contribute in GDP creating employment opportunities and maintaining sustainable consumption of natural resources. Besides, introducing Community base Tourism (CBT) in different tourist places we are trying to involve local people in tourism activities and share the benefit among the community people. We hope that by 2030 we will be able to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) declared by United Nations.

I believe that the participants of this event will discuss about the strength, challenges and the techniques for exploring the hidden potentials and branding Cox’s Bazar as a new tourism destination in the international arena. Also the sustainable technique we will learn from the conference can be applied not only for branding Cox’s Bazar but also for other coastal tourism destinations like the Sundarbans, largest mangrove forest of the world and Kuakata beach.

I thank all the participants of this event for their insight discussion on the theme. I also thank PATA for giving us the opportunity to host this event in Cox’s Bazar.

I wish very success of the event.

Dear PATA Members, Chapter Members, Industry Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the PATA New Tourism Frontiers Forum 2016 (NTFF 2016) in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.

I would like to thank our generous host, the Bangladesh Tourism Board under the supervision of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, for their valuable support in organising this event. I would also like to thank our various sponsors and supporting media partners for their assistance.

The PATA New Tourism Frontiers Forum, under the theme ‘Designing a sustainable tourism brand – an integrative approach to building a responsible coastal destination’ gathers the top minds in destination travel for inspiring and insightful discussions on some of the major issues in marketing and managing tourism growth to unexplored destinations.

While tourism is one of the most powerful tools for economic growth and social development, we often find that the most interesting and unique attractions – including indigenous culture, wildlife and natural landscapes – are located in areas where access is difficult and poverty is often the greatest. The industry’s challenge is to manage the evolution of these assets into attractive, marketable tourism products that maximise social and economic benefits while minimising any negative impacts.

Aligning with the Association’s advocacy theme of tourism dispersal, NTFF 2016 shines the spotlight on Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh by introducing delegates to the world’s longest unbroken beach combined with the unique lifestyle of ethnic minority groups in the neighbouring hills. This event itself is unique, providing a collaborative yet informative platform that is delivered via the one-day conference and the Technical Tour/Tourism Marketing Treasure Hunt. The dynamic group of conference speakers are set to examine how best to manage tourism growth in Cox’s Bazar in a sustainable manner whilst delivering real and tangible economic benefits to the local citizens. I look forward to meeting you at our networking events and, indeed, to hearing from all speakers and delegates. On behalf of PATA I thank you all for joining fellow industry professionals in Cox’s Bazar in this special year of ‘Visit Bangladesh 2016’.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Mario HardyChief Executive OfficerPacific Asia Travel Association
