Active participation, enjoyment, fair play and player development

of all our players are the cornerstones of the programme.

    Strictly 7 v 7 on a 55m x 35m pitch.

All players should play at least 50% of match.

    Roll on Roll off subs

Club with more than 1 team to grade teams (A, B, etc.)

Players may be moved between teams to encourage clubs with borderline

numbers to put in as many teams as possible.

Teams will be grouped with similar strength opposition.

Results maintained for grading purposes but not published.

Stand-alone fixtures bi-weekly with appointed Referee (U11 only) Future Stars Trophy (Trophies) for team (teams) that best epitomizes the

concept of the Future Stars Program (U11 only)

End of season blitz, 15 minute straight through matches. Clubs to mix their

teams into even standard selections (e.g. mix As & Bs). Cup awarded on the

day by a judge with the criteria along similar lines to the future stars Trophy. Future Stars Trophy winners also announced and awarded on the same day.

Why non-competitive Encourage clubs to give all players fair game time.

Provide an environment where players can experiment and

improve their skills without the pressure of costing their team a

    match by making a mistake.

Discourage coaches from playing a more direct, percentage

based game that is probably more likely to win matches.

Makes player development the emphasis of the activity.

Reduces the tendency for weaker teams to be on wrong end oflarge score lines.

  • 7/27/2019 NTSFL Future Stars Workshop

    23/48

Why small pitch size Discourages direct football.

Bigger stronger players dominate on bigger pitches.

Encourages better technical skills. Enables weaker players to better participate in the

    match.

    Challenges stronger players.

Why 7 v 7 More touches of the ball for players

    Active participation no hiding places

All players get to participate in attacking and defensive fazes of

    the game.

Statistics from evidence based studies dont lie.

7 v 7 is the starting point of football development in countries that

    produce technically gifted players.

FIFA Studies of young footballers playing SSG have proven the

    following when comparing 7 v 7, 9 v 9 and 11 v 11:

    Players touch the ball 50% more times in 7 v 7 and 28% more in 9 v

    9 than in 11 v 11.

    Players attempted two times more 1 v 1s in 7 v 7 than in 11 v 11. Goals were scored an average of every 3.6 minutes in 7 v 7, 5.5

    minutes in

    9 v 9 and 8 minutes in 11 v 11.

Technical skills performed by a goalkeeper were between two and

    four times more in 7 v 7 than in 11 v 11.

The ball is out of play 14% of the match in 7 v 7, 24% in 9 v 9 and

    34% in 11 v 11.

Other demonstrated benefits of SSG over the 11 v 11 gamebased on observational Research are as follows:

Far more repeated touches of the ball by all players

More touches throughout all areas of the pitch

More passes attempted and in a forward direction More attacking 1 v 1s, final third and penalty area entries

    Repeated decision-making experience

The ball is in play far more often

Repeated experience of basic tactical situations

Active participation is directly related to increased fitness andenjoyment

More experience in all phases of the game.

    27/48

Other demonstrated benefits of SSG over the 11 v 11 game

based on observational Research are as follows:

There is less hiding or dominant player "hogging" the ball. Every child

has to participate in all facets of the game, attack and defend.

The emphasis is on player development

Better success rate leads to improved quality of play, self-esteem

    and player retention

The game is easier to understand

    Freedom of expression

Less perceived stress on the player

80% of children believed that they touched the ball more often inSSG

Less perceived pressure from coaches and parents

If it was as simple as just playing

SSGs, we would have excellentplayers. The Key is why we play
