What is Kigo?

$$Build Your Own
Fast
Our goal, every day…
To consistently provide bold, pan-Asian flavors and a unique experience for our guests through passionate team
members delivering inspired service in our stores and throughout our
communities
22
My goal, today…
To advocate for three key priciples:
• College is the best time of your life– In which to start a business.
• The right team can make all the difference– Seek out the right advisors to support you.
• Luck is fickle– So do what you can to help it out.
23
Where did Kigo come from?
24
Where I came from:
• Graduated From Colby College with a B.A. in Economics
• Graduated from Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth
25
Where did Kigo come from?
26
Principle #1: Do It Now
There will never be another time in your life when your surrounded by so
many brilliant people dedicated to your success
27
Do It Now
• Gregg Fairbrothers:– Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship– Founder of the Dartmouth Entrepreneurial Network
28
Do It Now
29
• John Pepper: Founder & CEO - Boloco
Moving to Seattle
30
Principle #2: Seek Guidance
No one is ever going to tell you what to do next. You have to decide that for
yourself, so seek the guidance of those who have done it before.
31
Seek Guidance
Kigo surrounded itself with advisors and directors, from various
backgrounds, to guide the concept through its start up period
32
Seek Guidance
• Gerard Centioli: Advisory Board Member
33
Back to Boston
34
Principle # 3: Prepare for the Break
Luck =Preparation + Opportunity
35
Prepare for the Break
• Relationships matter– A summer internship with John Pepper
convinced him to recommend Kigo to Northeatern, when he learned they were seeking a fast casual Asian concept
• Preparedness matters– Kigo’s ability to deliver the structure for
a finished product convinced Northeastern to take a bet on an unproven restaurant
36
Three Tangibles
1. Timing– Start writing your business plan now
2. Team– Build board of advisors
3. Luck– Seek out every opportunity to pitch
