IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT HIGH EFFICIENCY FIRESLower Running Costs with Nu-Flame’s High Efficiency Fires

Nu-Flame manufactures a range of technically advanced gas fires that are considerably more efficient than waspossible just a few years ago. Our Glass Fronted range has models with efficiencies of 90% and for those whoprefer the look of an Open Fire we have models with efficiencies of 74.4%. Now you can have all the convenienceof a live fuel effect gas fire with a higher efficiency, lower running costs and lower emissions.

Independently Approved & Verified Efficiencies

Throughout this brochure you will see efficiencies quoted in the top right hand corner of various pages. We neverquote ‘uncertified’ or ‘self certified’ efficiency figures. All Nu-Flame efficiencies and heat output figures have beenindependently approved and verified by BSI or GL (Government Notified Bodies).

‘Independently Verified’ Efficiency compared to ‘Uncertified’ or ‘Self Certified’Efficiency

Any design of gas fire must be CE approved by a Government Notified Body, such as BSI, before it can be sold inthe EU. Whilst undertaking the CE approval it is possible to also get the efficiency and heat output verified by theGovernment Notified Body. If the manufacturer believes their efficiency claims are correct they may choose toundertake this straightforward additional test because, if the fire meets the required efficiency levels, it is thenawarded a Government recognised Class 1 or Class 2 Energy Efficiency Rating (not to be confused with Class 1 andClass 2 chimneys and flues). Only then can the manufacturer quote a Class 1 or Class 2 Efficiency Rating in theirinstructions and on the fire’s data badge. Nu-Flame has developed very efficient fires, and you can be confident inthis claim as we have our figures verified by a Government Notified Body.

Fires with ‘Uncertified’ or ‘Self Certified’ Efficiencies may have higher running coststhan you are lead to believe

For example: .When preparing an Energy Performance Certificate for a house, a SAP* Assessor will grant a Nu-FlameConvector Ultra H.E. fire an efficiency of 74.4%. This would validate our claim that our heat input of 6.26kW achievesa heat output of 4.7kW..An ‘uncertified’ or ‘self certified’ fire with the same heat input of 6.26kW, would be rated at 46% efficiency bya SAP Assessor, regardless of the manufacturer’s claims. As a result the heat output could be as low as 2.9kW, andif this was the case it would use around 40% more gas than the Convector Ultra H.E. to obtain the desired roomtemperature.

The reason the SAP Assessor would give the lower ratings for the ‘uncertified’ or ‘self certified’ fire is that themanufacturer has not had their efficiency claims verified by a Government Notified Body.

In summary, if a fire doesn’t show a Class 1 or Class 2 Efficiency Rating you cannotbe sure it has been independently verified by a Government Notified Body and therunning costs could be much higher than you are lead to believe - if in doubt, askyour retailer.

height control, our fully sequentialThermatronic system turns the piloton and off when extinguishing thefire. It is compatible with, and can becontrolled by, home automationsystems and the Exhausto EFC21remote control chimney fan system.

The Manual rotarycontrol features asingle action ‘twistand ignite’ controlvalve which bothestablishes the pilot

light and allows you to fully adjustthe flame picture from high to low.

Wall SwitchPowered by 4 standardAA batteries. A triple pushbutton switch on a singlegang switch size plate. Aswell as on/off andvariable flame height

control, our fully sequential Wall Switchsystem turns the pilot on and off whenextinguishing the fire. It is compatible with,and can be controlled by, home automationsystems and the Exhausto EFC21 remotecontrol chimney fan system.

A pre-fabricated flue ischaracterised by a metalpipe and terminal appearingthrough the roof. Themajority of our products are

suitable for Class 1 or 2 pre-fabricated flues.

We have various firessuitable for use with anypre-cast flue that iscompliant with buildingregulations. With some

installations it might be necessary to use aspacer kit or have a deeper mantelrebate. Your Nu-Flame stockist can adviseyou.

FLUE TYPESNu-Flame has products to suit the various types of flue you are likely to have in your house. We alsohave some products which do not require a chimney. Please refer to the product pages, or chart onpages 24, 25 and 26, where you can find details of which flue type(s) the various products require.Below are brief details. The photographs are a guide only to help identify the type of flue. Your Nu-Flame stockist will give you further details.

Nu-Flame balanced flue firesvent the products ofcombustion through ahorizontal twin wall pipe,which terminates on an

outside wall. This requires just a single hole tobe drilled through the wall, and allows the useof a compact, neat looking terminal on theoutside wall. If the flue terminal is easilyaccessible (e.g. adjoining a path) then a meshterminal guard must be used.

High Level TouchControlAfter manually lighting thepermanent pilot, the fire iseasily controlled by the twodiscreet high level buttons.With no reliance on mainselectricity, and no need tobend down, this battery

controlled option allows you to control theflame from high to low, and switch to pilotonly setting, by simply pushing a button.
