Why?
• Being in a global city at the heart of the financial centre of London, one of the command centres for the global economy, creates value for our students, alumni, academics and business partners.
Governance
• Much stronger academic oversight from NUBS.
• Started to integrate colleagues across the sites more in both learning and teaching and research
• Better information flow into IUP and Ncl
• Looking for areas where we can align PS staff and processes (e.g. recruitment)
• Significantly improved confidence levels already in IUP and UEB
• And – if there was ever a decision to close London - we would teach out in London – so we are committed for at least the next 3-4 years!
Financial
• Let’s break even! Losses are vastly improved.
• Revise the business model• Reduce costs where possible, but
not at the cost of performance.• Business plan is way off - mainly
because of the assumption of 80% international students
• Losses reduced each year• Break even tough because of the
charges into the Joint Venture
Operational
• Operations manual for NUL is now out for consultation with a group of DPDs, Module Leaders and a Chair of Board of studies
• Tighter and more aligned with Newcastle• For most recent intake – commitment to stop
early transfers from London to Newcastle. Student could if 1st year results strong enough.
• After feedback – changes to programmes e.g. BSc International Business Management) for 2019/20 by removing languages elements
• NUBS staff will get the list of their module counterparts tomorrow
• PhD supervision – best team makes sense• Key areas of improvement
Assessment and feedback Academic support Student voice
Student Recruitment
• Recruitment (September 2018, 600 new and returning pathway, UG, PGT and PGR students)
• Grades accepted during clearing (NUBS involved, collaborative effort)

Student Feedback
• PTES (All London) - response rate only 50.5%. For next
time we need NUL colleagues to try and encourage a higher response rate.

body;• Recognised by the Federal Fund in the USA;• Over 200 school engagements in the UK and
overseas• First outreach Future Business Leaders programme
graduation with 6 of our platinum schools• 12% of British students are from 1st in family to go
to university, and 40% are from BME backgrounds• 9 students received the NCL+ award
Next steps
• Lets be frank - many growing pains
• There is an opportunity cost
• Make it work for the university
• Huge help from staff in NUBS to date – thanks again.
