Thisrewardingtechnologyfieldinvolvescollaborationandinteractionswithhighlyspecializedpeople,theoperationofsophisticatedinstruments,andexcellentsalaries.NuclearMedicineisabranchofmedicalimagingthatusesradioactiveisotopesforthediagnosisandtreatmentofcertaindiseases.

TheNuclearMedicineTechnologistpreparesandadministersthecorrecttheradioisotopedoses,positionsthepatientsunderthegammacameraandproducesimagesthataretheninterpretedbyaphysician.

BCC'saffiliatedclinicalsitesincludeMontefioreMedicalCenter,MountSinaiMedicalCenter,NewYorkPresbyterian,St.BarnabasHospital,andSt.Luke's/RooseveltMedicalCenter.Undersupervision,studentsperformscansoftheliver,bone,brain,kidneys,andtheheartandcardiovascularsystem.SeveralsitesperformPositionEmissionTomography.TheNuclearMedicineTechnologyprogramisaccreditedbytheJointReviewCommitteeonEducationalProgramsinNuclearMedicineTechnology(JRCNMT),nationallyrecognizedbytheCouncilforHigherEducationAccreditation(CHEA).

TheminimumacceptablecumulativeG.P.A.forenteringspecializationrequirementcoursesoftheNuclearMedicineTechnologyProgramis2.7(B-).Forstudentstransferringfromanothercollege,gradesreceivedfromtransferredcourseswillbeusedinthecalculationoftheireffectiveindex.TransferredcoursesmaynotincludeNMTdesignatedcourses.

UponthecompletionoftheprogramatBronxCommunityCollege,studentsarerequiredtopassoneoftwonationalregistryexaminationstobecomeidentifiedasaRegisteredNuclearMedicineTechnologistandtopracticeasaNuclearMedicineTechnologist.FurtherstudyinthisfieldispossibleininstitutionsofferingabaccalaureatedegreeinNuclearMedicineTechnology.TheprogramarticulateswithNewYorkCityCollegeofTechnologyandSUNYEmpireStateCollege.VisittheTransferPlanningwebsiteformoreinformation.
