Over time, drain pipes develop problems that lead to slow drains, backups, leaks and possible breaks and damaging spills. Common drain clearing remedies for underground pipes may not be feasible in buildings and will not extend the useful life of the pipe while replacement is an expensive and disruptive option. Fortunately, Nu Flow has a patented process to rehabilitate pipes in place and restore drain performance.

For example, Nu Flow rehabilitated the pipes for a customer experiencing recurring backup problems throughout their building. This is a long-term and cost-effective solution that was also not disruptive to the building’s many tenants.

Project: Clean and line corroded drain system without displacing residents using Nu Flow’s trenchless structural drain liner.

Customer: Riverside Park Apartments, a private non-profit organization in Jacksonville, Florida.

Site: Riverside Park Apartment Building, a nine-story high rise built in 1981 with 90 units.

System: More than 1,200 feet of 3” and 4” cast iron vertical drain stacks and 400 feet of 3” to 8” underground pipe including multiple bends and size changes. The sanitary system extends nine stories and transitions under the ground and then to the outside of the building.

Situation: The pipes at Riverside Park Apartments had been neglected for many years to the point that the 4” kitchen stacks had corrosion and grease buildup that reduced the opening to less than the diameter of a dime. The corrosion and clogged drains caused many backups throughout the building; so many that plumbers were coming in every week to deal with the recurring issue.

Solution: While rehabilitating the system, Nu Flow was able to bring the pipes back to original diameter, which was a challenge as the pipes were so badly corroded. With limited access from the roof and service closets on the ground floor, Nu Flow retrofitted the pipes with their patented Nu Flow process by pulling a seamless structural liner into place. The pipes were rehabilitated without the need to displace residents and since completion Riverside Park Apartments has not experienced any of the previously recurring issues.

Corrosion and backups are common in commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Whether you are experiencing problems now or are interested in preventing the inevitable failure of your plumbing system, Nu Flow is available to restore your peace of mind.

The patented Nu Flow process returns

pipes back to original diameter while avoiding destruction and

occupant displacement.

Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant: Underground Drain Rehabilitation

Location: Houston, Texas

Situation:This 41-story, commercial building in downtown Houston had a cracked storm drain main line that leaked. This cast iron main is located in an underground pump room, hoisted about 30 feet above the floor. The pipe line is exposed, but surrounded by electrical lines, cooling fans and air ducts.

Solution:The main line access points were hard to access and a traditional repipe would not have been feasible. Nu Flow technicians rented a lift to access the pipe, cleaned it and installed Nu Main, a protective epoxy liner. There was not any destruction to the building or disruption to the tenants.

Marathon Oil Tower: Storm Drain Main Line Rehabilitation

It is well known that non-invasive angioplasty or arthroscopic procedures are preferred to open-cut surgery. The same is true when it comes to rehabilitating the plumbing infrastructure within your facilities. Over time, all drain systems develop problems, begin to fail and require attention. Replacing those pipes comes with the need to dig through floors and foundations or to cut through walls to access the pipes, which can be very time-consuming, costly and disruptive.

However, this can be avoided by using Nu Flow’s non-invasive equivalent to angioplasty to clear pipes and install their version of a stent in order to rehabilitate failing lines and to strengthen weakened areas.

Project: Remove corrosion and build-up and line under-foundation drain pipe using Nu Flow’s trenchless cured-in-place structural drain lining technology.

Customer and Site: Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, one of the nation’s top-rated medical centers located in Long Beach, CA.

The 54-acre campus and hospital houses 716 beds, employs more than 5,200 people and has more than 400 volunteers.

System: 100 feet of 4” cast iron pipe running 4 feet under the Pharmacy and Sterile Process Department to the 6” mainline beneath a hospital hallway.

Situation: The system was experiencing failure and backups due to erosion and corrosion over the past 60 years. In some places the erosion was so severe that the bottom of the pipe was missing. Before the hospital learned about Nu Flow, they were preparing to replace the pipe, which would require moving the SPD Department, setting up temporary walls, saw cutting the concrete, hauling out the debris by hand, completing the repipe and then rebuilding everything to finished surfaces.

Solution: Nu Flow saved the customer from the cost and logistics of replacing the system, which would have caused extensive damage to the hospital. Using trenchless technology and existing access points to the drain system, Nu Flow removed all buildup and corrosion, returning the pipes back to their original inside diameter. Nu Flow then retrofitted the pipes with the patented Nu Flow process by pulling 100 feet of seamless structural liner into place, greatly extending the pipes useful life. The Nu Flow solution can install a new liner even where the old pipe is missing.

The resulting solution restores the flow capacity of the drain pipes and returns the system and facility to service quickly. The hospital avoided the need to repipe the area, saving valuable money and six weeks of construction.

Aged and failing pipe systems are common in commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Whether you are experiencing problems now or are interested in preventing the inevitable failure of your plumbing system, Nu Flow is available to restore your peace of mind.

“In 20+ years, I have not been this impressed with a new technology.”

Elbow Room Dive Bar: Underground Sewer Line Rehabilitation

Location: Coronado Island, California

Situation:The 35-year-old kitchen drain pipes in the 15-story beach front condominium were clogging, cracking and leaking. The kitchen stacks are located inside walls and ceilings and consist of 4” cast iron pipes.

Solution:Nu Flow cleaned and descaled the pipes back to their original diameter. We lined all of the kitchen risers in the 135-unit condominium with our patented Pull-in-Place structural liner without having to tear out walls, floors or ceilings that would have been necessary in a traditional re-pipe project.

La Princesa Tower Condominiums: Drain Stack Rehabilitation

Over time, all drain systems develop problems, begin to fail and require attention. Replacing those pipes comes with the need to dig through floors and foundations or to cut through walls to access the pipes, which can be very time-consuming, costly and disruptive. However, this can be avoided with a pipe retrofit from Nu Flow.

Project: Rehabilitate a failing drain pipe without disruption to the airport’s operations.

Customer and Site: Lester B. Pearson International Airport, located in Mississauga, Ontario, is the largest and busiest airport in Canada.

System: 3” cast iron drain line running from the bottom of an elevator shaft to a collecting pit. The pipe is located five feet under concrete and is used to drain the elevator shaft from hydraulic oil and other fluids that accumulate during operation and maintenance.

Situation: When it rained, water in the ground infiltrated the pipe and consequently filled the collecting pit with water. High underground water levels exerted high pressure on the pipe and even a small leak was filling the pit.

Solution: A CCTV investigation was carried out and revealed that two joints in the pipe were allowing the infiltration.

Nu Flow retrofitted the failing pipe by inserting a Pull-in-Place structural liner in the existing pipe using the patented Nu Flow process. The liner cured overnight and the pipe returned to service the next day. With the Nu Flow liner in place, the drain pipe is completely sealed with a seamless solution that will prevent further infiltration.

Problems with drain lines are common and recurring. Whether you are experiencing problems now or are interested in preventing the inevitable failure of your plumbing system, Nu Flow is available to restore your peace of mind.

The patented Nu Flow process avoids the need to dig or rip out walls to retrofit your pipes. With multiple piping solutions we can rehabilitate any pipe, anywhere.

Nu Flow Pipe Retrofit Saves Airport’s Failing Drain Line

Where life interacts with infrastructure.

Nu Flow prides itself on having an extremely efficient, budget-friendly solution for healthcare and medical buildings. Moving around patients and closing surgical rooms can be a decision that puts lives at risk, so Nu Flow is happy to provide nondestructive solutions that keep normal operations undisturbed, while greatly extending the lifespan of necessary pipe systems within the building.

Project: Use the patented Nu Drain system to rehabilitate a failing rain leader without having to displace patients.

Customer: Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance manages four hospitals in Ontario, Canada.

Site: The Stratford General Hospital in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. This 4-story hospital is approximately 50 years old.

System: The 4" diameter cast iron rain leader for the hospital. This vertical pipeline is 80 feet in length and has two 90 degree elbows and two 45 degree elbows. The pipes, located behind walls, run from the roof to the cleanout in the basement kitchen.

Problem: The aged pipeline had a crack, which caused water damage to drywall on the third floor. Cracks are extremely common in roof drain pipes as a result of weather conditions.

Circumvention: If the customer had chosen a traditional repair, such as a repipe, the walls outside of this 4-story rain leader would have to be torn apart, in order to access the pipes and then replace them. Patient rooms, surgical rooms, laboratories and the kitchen would have to be closed and patients would be moved for the duration of the work. After new pipes would be installed, a drywall contractor would have to be hired to close up the walls, and then the rooms would have to be thoroughly cleaned before moving patients back into them. This would be a very disruptive, destructive and expensive process.

Solution: A repeat customer, Stratford General Hospital chose Nu Flow to rehabilitate another failing rain leader, after the manager of facilities experienced the durability and strength of our structural liners. To complete this project, first, Nu Flow technicians set up an infection control and dust control tents in the kitchen, to ensure sanitary conditions. Next, our proprietary "finger" drain cleaning fools were used to remove heavy debris throughout the pipe system. There was a 2" restriction of debris at the bottom of the pipe line, near the clean out. After the pipes were returned to their original diameter, the Nu Drain structural liner was prepared and installed. This epoxy-soaked liner was installed using existing access points and patented Pull-in-Place technology, preventing demolition to the building. The project was completed in less than two days and did not cause any disruption to the hospital’s normal operations.

“What really sold me on Nu Flow’s technology was when I talked to ourin-house plumbers and they told me

how strong the epoxy liner was.”

- Doug Biesinger, Facilities Manager,Stratford General Hospital
