TABLE 8: ALLOWABLE LOADS FOR STH HANGERS (continued)

For SI units: 1 inch = 25.4 mm, 1 pound (lb) = 4.4 N Notes to Table 8: (1) Allowable Load Capacities are based on Specie and Load Duration Factor as permitted by applicable building code. (2) Minimum Southern Pine referenced compression design value for compression perpendicular to grain is 565 psi (3.9 MPa). (3) STH products exceed a torsional moment capacity of 75 lbs times the depth of the supported member. The STH products do not provide lateral support for the joists and beam stability shall be evaluated in accordance with ANSI/AWC NDS Section 3.3.3. (4) For face mount installation, when more holes in header flanges are available than required fasteners, fasteners shall be evenly divided between header flanges and placed in the lowermost 4 holes in each header flange and the uppermost available 2 holes of each header flange, with remaining fasteners evenly distributed throughout remaining header flange holes. (5) For top mount installations, fasteners in top of header shall be evenly divided between header flanges. The furthest fastener in each top flange from the hanger face of the header shall be at least: 2 inches for STH218-2, STH418, STH222-2, STH422 and STH426; 2.25 inches for STH29, STH29-2, STH422-2, STH426-2, STH422-2R and STH426-2R; and 2.5 inches for STHI1.81/22, STHI222, STHI322 and STHI422 hangers. Fasteners in face of header shall be evenly divided between header flanges and applied in the lowermost holes of each header flange. (6) All fasteners shall be placed a minimum of ¼-inch from any edge of members or as required to avoid lumber splitting. (7) STH hangers may be installed with one strap top mounted and one strap face mounted over header, use lowest of the top and face allowable load for connection.
