GAMEOVERVIEWThisNumberedHeadsTogethersoftwareturnsanysetofquestionsintoafun,interactivelearninggamefortheentireclass.GameSetup:Enterasetofquestions.Connectyourcomputertoaprojector,televisionmonitor(s),oraninteractivewhiteboardsoallstudentscanseethegame.ClassroomSetup:Seatstudentsinsmallteamsfromtwotofivestudentsperteam,preferablyfourstudentsperteam.Haveeachstudentoneachteamnumberoff(1–4forteamsof4;1–3forteamsof3…).Studentseachneedsomethingtowriteonandsomethingtowritewith.Individualresponseboardsorslatesworkbest,butpaperandpenorpencilwilldofine.

NumberedHeadsTogetherStepsThegameleadsyourclassthroughaseriesofstepsdesignedtopromotelearningthroughcooperation,activeparticipation,andindividualaccountability.Herearethestepsforeachquestion:

1. ThinkTime.Everyonethinkshowtoanswerthequestion.Notalking.2. WriteAnswer.Everyoneprivatelywriteshis/herownansweronhis/her

ownsheetofpaperorresponseboard.3. HeadsTogether.Teammatesputtheirheadstogetherandsharetheir

answers.Theyreachconsensusonateamansweranddiscussandteachifnecessarysoeveryknowstheanswerorknowshowtosolvetheproblem.

4. WhoAnswers?Usingthegame’sStudentSelectorspinner,onestudentoneachteamisselected.Allselectedstudentsstand,readytoanswerindependently.Theymaynolongerconsultwithteammates.

5. AnswerQuestion.Theteacherdecideshowtohavestudentsanswerthequestion.Herearesomeoptions:

•Standingstudentsallshowtheirresponseboards.•Teachercallsononestandingstudenttoshareansweraloud.•TeacherusesTeamSelectortopickastudentonateamtoshare.•Teachercallsonmultiplestandingstudentstoshare.•StudentsuseresponsecardsorfingersforTrue/FalseorMultipleChoicequestions.•Teacherhastheselectedteamrepresentativesolveasimilarproblem.

Pastethenewquestionsovertheexistingtext.8. ClickOK.Youarenowreadytosaveorplayyourimportedgame.ExportQuestionsIfyouwouldlikeaccessthequestionsofasavedgameintextformat,youmaydosobyclickingtheImport/Exportbutton,copyingthetext,andpastingitintoatextfile.

INSTRUCTIONSToCreateaNewGame•CreateNewGame:FromtheMainMenu,clickontheNewGamebutton.

•SelectQuestionFormat:ClicktheQuestionsOnlybuttontocreateasetofquestionswithoutanswers.Usethisformatforthinkingquestions,discussionquestions,orwhenyoudon’tneedtorevealananswer.Or,clicktheQuestions&Answersbuttontocreateasetofquestionswithanswers.Usethisformatforquestionstowhichyouwanttorevealtheanswer.

•EnterQuestions:Youmayplaywithupto20questionspergame.Youhavetheoptionofenteringasfewas1question.Therearethreewaystoenteryourquestions:1)TypeinQuestions,2)EnterQuestionsinPreview,or3)ImportQuestions.Eachmethodisdescribedbelow.ToTypeInQuestionsTypeineachquestioninit’sownquestionbox.Forexample:

Ifyouhavealongquestion,youmayusetheupanddownarrowsunderthequestionnumbertoscrollthroughthequestion.Youmayalsoscrollthroughthequestiontextbyhighlightingthequestionandmovingyourmousedown(toscrolldown)orup(toscrollup)whilethequestionisselected.

ToSelectHowManyQuestionstoPlayThereisnoneedtoadjustthenumberofquestionsifyouareplayingwithyourentireset.Ifyouwouldliketoplaywithfewerquestionsthanareinyourquestionset,usetheUpandDownArrowbuttonstoselecthowmanyquestionsyouwouldliketoplay.Forexample,ifyouentered20questions,butonlywanttoplayusingthefirst10questions,usetheArrowbuttonstoselect10questions.Thefirst10questionswillbeusedforthegameandthelast10willbeturnedoff.

IfyouImportquestionsorusePreviewtoenterquestions,thegamewillautomaticallydetecthowmanyquestionsyouhave.Youcanalwaysaddmore(upto20questions)orusefewerquestionsbyusingtheupordownarrow.Whenyousaveyourgame,allthequestionsenteredwillbesavedregardlessofthenumberofquestionsyouselect,soenteredquestionsarenotlost.ToPlayWithoutSavingAfterenteringquestions,youmayplaythegameimmediatelywithoutsavingbyclickingthePlaybuttonintheupperrightcorner.Ifyouwanttosaveyourquestions,youmustdosopriortoplaying.Again,itisrecommendedyoualsosaveyourquestionsetsinseparatetextfilesonyourcomputerasabackupsoyoumayeasilyimportyourquestionsinthefutureifnecessary.

ToPlayaSavedGameAfteryouclickPlay,clicktheRandomOrderbuttonifyouwantyourquestionstobeselectedinRandomOrder(e.g.,3,19,5…)orclicktheSequentialOrderbuttonifyouwantyourquestionstobeselectedsequentially(e.g.,1,2,3).Next,youwillbetakentotheGamescreen.Allavailablequestionswillbelitup.Ifthereare20questions,all20lightswillbelitup.Ifthereare10questions,only10questionlightswillbeon.Note:IfyouclicktheMainMenubuttonintheupperrightcorneratanytimeduringplay,youwillabandonthecurrentgameandreturntotheMainMenu.

3.Onthe“WhoAnswers?”step,aStudentSelectorspinnerappears.ClicktheSpinbuttontospintheselectorandselectastudentoneachteamtostand.Therearefourringsonthespinner,eachcorrespondingtoadifferentteamsize,sothespinnerwillselectonestudentonteamsoftwotofivestudents,evenifstudentsareondifferentsizeteams.

IfyoupresstheTeamSelectorbuttonintheupperleftcorner,aTeamSelectorappears,allowingyoutoselectastudentwithintheselectedteam.Eachringonthespinnercorrespondstoadifferentnumberofteams.Forexample,ifyouhave9teamsintheclass,youlookattheouterringofthespinnertodeterminewhichteamisselected.PresstheStudentSelectorbuttonintheupperleftcornertoreturntotheStudentSelector.Youmaytogglebackandforthbetweenthetwospinnersusingthebuttonintheupperleftcorner.

4.IfyouareplayingagameusingQuestionsandAnswers(notQuestionsOnly),youmayclicktheAnswerbutton(theAbuttonabovetheAnswerQuestionbutton)todisplaythecorrectanswerfortheclass.

GameOverOptionsAftercompletingthefinalstepofthelastquestion,youwillbetakentoaGameOverscreen.Youhave4options:
