FROM THE PRINCIPAL VINTAGE FESTIVAL BREAKFAST

The Governing Council fundraising group will be running a breakfast and coffee stall

for the beginning of the Vintage parade that starts at our school site. This is potentially

a great fundraising opportunity for us and we want to make it very successful. On sale

will be bacon and egg burgers and a vegetarian option. If you have some time to

spare between 8.00 and 10.00 on the 18th April please contact the school and regis-

INTERIM REPORTS

Staff have recently completed interim reports to indicate the progress of students dur-

ing the first 6 weeks of the term. Letters, interviews or discussions will be sent/held with

families where there are significant concerns. This strategy is designed to help identify

potential issues before they become harder to address. Please remember to contact

us if you have any concerns about your child’s progress or if you would like to share

some of the success stories you have.

SCHOOL UNIFORM The uniform review is continuing with decisions about winter jumpers close to being

finalised. Thank you to the members of the group that are meeting weekly to keep

this process moving forward. Surveys to students regarding aspects of the uniform are

providing important information and helping inform decisions. Parents are again en-

couraged to add comment, suggestions and ideas to this group. Please contact

SACE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

We have been invited to be part of a project to share successful SACE improvement

initiatives with other sites. The project enables us to present information about strate-

gies that we have used to help improve our students’ completion and high level suc-

cess rates as well as trial other approaches to continue this improvement. Interim re-

ports, follow up and mentoring are all part of this work. We will be extending profes-

sional learning with staff about external assessment design and marking along with

exam preparation as part of our improvement work.

STAFFING

Mr Winston Bartlett began Long Service Leave last Friday and will retire at the end of the year. We congratulate

and thank Mr Bartlett for his work and dedication over 45

years in the public education system. During this time in 4

major schools, he was involved in many extra curricula ac-

tivities and after school support along with his intimate and

deep understanding of English and HASS subjects. We wish

him well for the next stage of his life and welcome Ms

Louise McCutcheon to our staff. We also welcome Ms Ann

Harris and Ms Louise Hadden who join us as new SSO staff

members working in classrooms to support student learning.

Last Friday, 13 March, the SRC ran a food stall for Sports Day. There was a variety

of foods and drinks to buy, so we would like to thank you for supporting your SRC

by buying your lunch on the day.

Friday of week 8 will again be a non-uniform day. Pink Stumps Day will be held on

this day, celebrated by teams playing cricket. An indoor cricket based competi-

tion for students will be going on during this week. World’s Greatest Shave will be

held the Friday after, on 27 March. Please remember to bring your gold coin to

support the McGrath Foundation supporting breast cancer research nurses. At

lunch on Friday week 9 there is an opportunity for students to shave or colour their

hair for the Leukaemia Foundation. Any money donated by students will go to-wards these great causes.

The school sponsor child, Mittaphap Duagchampa, (pictured) has recently cele-

brated her 13th birthday so we will be sending over a birthday card which she will

receive on our behalf. Non-uniform day money also goes towards supporting Mit-

taphap and her community.

MATERIAL & SERVICES CHARGE

Thank you to those families who have paid the Material & Services Charge of $450 for 2015 which was due on Fri-day 6 February. If you have made a Payment by Instalments arrangement the first instalment of $150 was due Fri-day 6 February with the next instalment of $150 due on Friday 6 March and the final instalment of $150 on 7 April. If you haven’t made a payment arrangement with us please pay the Material & Services charge as soon as possible

as it is now overdue.

When making payments to the schools bank account please ensure that you include an invoice number, family code or name so that we know how to apply the payment.

If you are applying for School Card assistance please lodge your forms at the Finance Office or if you require any additional School Card forms they are available on the schools website or at the Finance Office. Please contact us

if you need any assistance.

DELICIOUS BREAKFAST AVAILABLE FOR VINTAGE FESTIVAL PARADE PARTICIPANTS

The Nuriootpa High School Governing Council is raising funds to support our end of year Student Prize giving Eve-

nings for all year levels.

The Governing Council will be offering delicious bacon and egg rolls and freshly brewed

barista coffee to people being on floats for the Vintage Festival Parade. There is also a vege-

tarian option with scrumptious tomato relish and egg. Tea drinkers will be catered for too.

There will be a pre-ordering service via the information sheet in the bags for parade partici-

pants.

We still need a few helpers to work on the stall from 8 to 10am on Saturday 18th April. We will be selling from the shelter and tables along Penrice Road near the teacher’s car park.

This term a whole school assembly was conducted to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2014. Invited

guests included Mr Davie Slade from Tanunda Foodland and Mrs Joylene Seppelt, the two major sponsors of the

Dux awards, parents, past students, staff and current students. Our SRC representatives, Josh Norton and Regan

Lambert were the hosts for the assembly who did an outstanding job of running the program in front of the entire

school. Mr White reiterated the important message of celebrating the success of past students and reinforced the

message of goal setting and following your dreams to the current year 12 group.

The SRC were officially inducted into their new roles by Ms Muggleton and Ms Hoffmann and were presented with

their badges on stage.

Mrs Howard welcomed the Exchange students to Nuriootpa High School including Sophie Schneider, Lyn Bode and

Azuma Kawakami.

Mr Bartram announced the five Merit winners from the class of 2014. These students received a score of 20 out of 20

for a SACE subject. Their teachers Mrs Gebert, Miss O’Halloran, Mr Bowley and Mr Gambell presented them with

their certificates.

Mr Bartram (Year 12 Manager 2014) continued to acknowledge the three students who achieved A+ grades for a

subject in 2014. Their teachers Mr Barkley, Mrs Ramsey and Mr Turnbull presented them with their certificates.

Mr Bowley introduced the four students who successfully completed a Cert III course in 2014 and acknowledged

the efforts of these dedicated students in their absence as they were unable to attend due to work commitments.

Ms Reichstein introduced the top ten students from the class of 2014 who achieved outstanding ATAR sores in their

subjects. Mr White congratulated them and presented them with their certificates.

The final awards were announced by Mr White and presented by two major community sponsors. These prestigious

awards recognised the dedications, persistence and excellence of the top Male and Female student at Nuriootpa

High in 2014.

The assembly was officially closed by Josh Norton and Regan Lambert. Overall, this assembly celebrated and rec-

ognised the dedicated work ethic and determinations of the top students form the Class of 2014 at Nuriootpa High

School.

SCIENCE COMPETITION: 2015 The Science Faculty strongly encourages all students in years 8 to 12 to enter the ICAS Science Com-

petition, whether taking science in this semester or next semester. The cost is $8.00 (INCL GST), paya-

ble any morning of the week, before school or at recess at the Finance Office. Please pay by the

end of term 1. The competition will be held on Wednesday, 3rd June during lesson 1 and 2.

The competition only takes one hour of school time, consisting of multiple choice questions - the sci-

ence content is given to you in each question. More details can be obtained from science teachers,

such as past papers. Everyone who enters receives at least a participation certificate for their folio.

The oval looked fantastic and the weather was perfect for the Nuriootpa High Sports Day. A big thank you to Mr.

Rumbelow and the Practical Skills class for their tireless efforts to get the grounds so pristine on the day. The students

need to be congratulated on their enthusiastic and positive efforts. The participation rate in all events was terrific.

It was great to have staff out early in the morning to assist with setting up for the day. A big thank you to parent

helpers who gave up their time to come in for the day, as it is hard to run the carnival without this parent support.

Thank you to Travis Jensen, Sandy Hahn, Jenny Fechner, Kristi Kalleske, Rachel Koehne, Faye and Luke Rothe.

Thanks must also go to St Johns who were in attendance and looked after some of our students.

The SRC did a great job with catering and made sure everyone was well fed.

A special thank you to Mr. Barkley for the time he spent developing and implementing the “Sports Track” program,

which ran so smoothly on the day, due to his efforts. Also to Mr. Lambert for his ongoing support with school sport

and the organisation and assistance he provides on a daily basis, in-particular with Sports Day.

Finally, thank you to the staff for your efforts on the day.

This year’s campaign ended up being a short one. Batting first against local rivals Faith in the first round, a few of the

Nuri. boys were tempted into some lusty swings that got them out. Thanks to the efforts of Blake Homes and Ross

Kuhn the score edged towards an unimpressive 91 all out. Trying to defend this total was always going to be hard

but good bowling by Ben Antonie and Mackenzie Dalliston resulted in the loss of 6 Faith wickets before they

achieved the total. While out of this competition the boys have got a September game against a touring Queens-

land high school to look forward to.

Would you like to be part of Nuriootpa High School's Camp Gallipoli Experience?

If you can't be at Gallipoli this ANZAC Day, this is the next best thing.

Camp out for ANZAC Day (24 - 25 April) under the stars just like the Australian soldiers and nurses did 100 years ago.

Camp Gallipoli is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all Australians and New Zealanders to come together on the

100th anniversary of Gallipoli to sleep out under the same stars as the original ANZACS did 100 years ago.

In a series of historic locations around Australia and New Zealand, families, schools and community groups are invit-

ed to join in a special night of remembrance, entertainment, mateship and the birth of that special Aussie & Kiwi ANZAC spirit.

Each venue will have spaces set aside for camping (bring your own swag or sleeping bag, no tents), just like the

Diggers did. There will be entertainment, special guests, movies, documentaries, great food options and a very spe-

cial Dawn Service on ANZAC Day itself. The South Australian venue is Morphettville Racecourse and will feature

special performances from Emily Wil-

liams and You am I with appearances

from Maggie Beer, Natalie Von Ber-

touch, Australian Cricketers, AFL Play-

ers and many more to be an-

nounced.

Camp Gallipoli has been fully en-

dorsed by the ANZAC Cen-

tenary Committee, Department of

Veterans Affairs, Federal Education

Department, RSL and Legacy. These

special events will be respectful and

informative but also most entertaining

for all Australian students. The 100th

anniversary of Gallipoli is your chance

to share a moment in history with fam-ily and friends.

Schools have been given priority

bookings at a concession rate. Tick-

ets are available to students and their

families. Each ticket costs only $99

which includes the entry fee plus din-

ner and breakfast. Our school group

will also have our own designated

area.
