Towards a healthir community…
Introduction
More and more consumers are aware about the importance of good health and nutrition. A survey conducted at supermarkets in Brunei Darussalam showed that 94% of consumers agreed to have healthy foods and beverages made available in the supermarkets. To help facilitate food and beverage industry to meet the consumers’ demand, the Ministry of Health with the support of our stakeholders has developed a Healthier Choice initiative.
Healthier Choice Logo
The Healthier Choice Logo is developed to help consumers easily identify healthy foods and beverages. Products bearing the logo indicate that the products meet a set of nutrient criteria for healthy foods and beverages.

Nutrient Criteria of Foods and Beverages with the Healthier Choice Logo
The nutrient criteria serve as a guideline for food and beverages manufacturers in Brunei Darussalam. It provides a set of nutrient criteria for specific category of foods and beverages. Food and beverage manufacturers with existing products or that produce product(s) meeting the nutrient criteria are permitted to display the Ministry of Health’s Heathier Choice Logo and nutrition claim on their products packaged.
General Labelling Requirements for Nutrition Claim
In line with the Public Health (Food) Regulations 2001, Brunei Darussalam, all products that make nutrition claims shall display the amount of nutrient being claimed in the nutrition information panel.
Acknowledgements
The Nutrient Criteria is adapted with permission from Singapore’s Health Promotion Board Healthier Choice Symbol Nutrient Guidelines. The development of the Nutrient Criteria took into account current nutritional status of existing products in Brunei Darussalam. Acknowledgement also goes to the previously known as the Community Nutrition Division, MOH and the Maternal, Infant and Young Children team for their input.
