DELIVERY & ASSESSMENT

Our delivery formats, which include a specific Learner Training Plan, allow flexibility to meet learner and employer requirements. The proposed delivery format is as follows. An initial training block of 5 days at a site suitable to the group will cover a number of the units of competency. This method enables the development of a rapport between trainer and learners, as well as developing a networking environment. It also allows for our trainer to assess and discuss individual learner requirements. A second 5-day block would be completed at a later date, followed by an assessment visit (Work Readiness Assessment, refer to below). Each assessment involves the trainer working with the learner in a one-on-one session.

Assessment is competency based and uses Question and Answer, demonstration, role-play, field assignments, written exam, and workplace documents as assessment tools. We also conduct a Work Readiness Assessment (WRA) in the workplace, to ensure learners have successfully translated the training in the workplace. The WRA takes approximately one half day per learner. Each learner will have a specific assessment session to assess their work readiness on their own plant, or plants upon which they have experience with technology covered by this course. This process may be conducted using realtime streaming video and sound technology (for suitable sites and learners), or may be our traditional approx. half day per learner one-on-one physically at their site(s) with them. To be able to be found competent in the enrolled units of competency, learners need to have significant experience working on activities and technology covered by the subject matter (as a guidance, at least 20 days) and have access to related plants/sites (i.e. a Water Treatment Plant & a Wastewater Treatment Plant) for their final Work Readiness Assessment. Learners are required to submit the course assignments within 4 months after the last day of classroom training. Refer to the Enrolment and Assignments Submission Policy in the Learner Orientation Booklet for more details. A flowchart of this delivery and assessment process is in the WHAT HAPPENS NEXT section of this proposal. Dates scheduled for classroom deliveries are:

RECOGNISED PRIOR LEARNING & CREDIT TRANSFER

We offer an RPL procedure that ensures an individual's prior learning, achieved through formal and informal training, work experience or other life experiences, is approximately recognised. We also recognise all Nationally Accredited Units issued by any recognised RTO as a credit transfer for attainment of the Qualifications. If the learner intends to apply for RPL or Credit Transfer, please contact us to obtain the relevant forms.

COURSE DURATION

The volume of learning of a Certificate III is typically 1 – 2 years. As the course is competency based, duration of the course varies depending on the skills, experience and learning capacity of the individual learners.

OUR CLIENTS

TESTIMONIAL

I recently completed my Certificate III in Water Industry Treatment with Simmonds & Bristow together with another co-worker. We both enjoyed the course very much and found the learner resources provided were very informative. The trainers and coordinator of S&B are very knowledgeable and approachable. We would highly recommend the course to other operators in the industry. – Allan Matthews from Richmond Shire Council The trainers were very clear explaining things - even the beginners in the course found it easy to understand. Looking at getting S&B back to train Cert IV. Worth calling if not already discussed. Have had on site to do audits and very pleased with that work too. S&B went above and beyond for Napranum. – Ambrose Williams from Napranuam Aboriginal Shire Council Very happy with last project (training). Provided excellent service. Very good value for money. General comments - S&B are excellent for technical back up and training, to have a reference point of that quality and access to quality staff is excellent. Especially for small isolated western councils. – Croydon Shire Council
