Next residents’ council
meeting
Tuesday, October 1st,
2013 at 19:00 in the GH-
basement
Mold! The pest that everyone is so afraid of. Several rooms raised awareness at the
last residents’ council meeting that they had been exposed to the mold in their rooms.
As a response to this, the council urged all residents to speak to their representatives
regarding their own situations, so we can get a better picture of the problem’s severi-
ty. Read more on page 2
Operation kitchen renovation has
now been going on for several years,
and now, we are nearing the end. If
your kitchen has not yet been reno-
vated, or if you are just curious
about what the old kitchens looked
like, take a look inside to find dates
and pictures. Page 2
KælderCafeen is closing down tem-
porarily because of a floor renovati-
on. The bar expects to open again on
October 25th. They would also like
to let you know that they need more
bartenders to help out. Read more
about it all inside.

As a new editor at NybroTidende,
Emma has chosen to focus on cul-
ture and events around the dormi-
tory. This month you can read
about Culture Night—one of Co-
penhagen’s biggest cultural events
is being held on October 11th.

Mold in your room? At the residents’ council meeting in
September, the conversation once
again touched on the subject of
mold at the dormitory. This time,
the ST-block were telling the rest of
the dormitory about their problems.
Mold is not exactly news at the dor-
mitory. We are placed in a moist
environment, close to the lakes, and
the old buildingd are far from opti-
mal with regards to the indoor cli-
mate. The dormitory has gone
through a number of renovations
throughout the years and one of
these included the installation of
new, tight fitting windows. Since
these windows were installed, a lot
of energy has been saved on heat-
ing, but the problem with mold has
risen significantly.
At the latest residents’ council
meeting, residents were urged to go
home and talk to their respective
hallways and apartments about
whether or not they experience
problems with mold. This is all to
form a better picture of how big of a
problem we are dealing with. If you
believe you have any kind of mold
in your room, please speak with
your representative about it, so we
can gain a better view of the prob-
lem.
What if there is mold?
Often when we yell mold, we are
actually just dealing with mildew—
which of course also has a negative
effect on the indoor climate, but is
not as damaging as mold. If a mold
occurence is to be considered of such
a degree that it is dangerous and
needs to be treated, it should cover
an area of around 3 square meters.
Smaller areas should not be ne-
glected, however. According to your
lease contract, it is your duty as a
tennant to inform your landlord of
an occurence of mold when you no-
tice it. You should speak to Lars Kaj
who can help you through the ensu-
ing process, which typically calls for
a treatment of Rodalon or a similar
product.
In order to avoid mold, it is impor-
tant that you do not let your room
become too cold. It is also important
that you ventilate the room thor-
oughly. If possible, you should venti-
late 3 times daily!
Jakob, R-52
At last, NybroTidende can bring the
news that the kitchen renovatinos
ARE on their way to EVERYONE!
Many have probably already for-
got what the old kitchens looked
like. Soon everyone will have
that luxury. Before 2014, everyo-
ne will have white cupboards and
plastered walls.
Around 3 years ago, the kitchen reno-
vation at Nybrogård began. Through
the years, more and more kitchens
have had their yellow bricks replaced
by white walls, received new cup-
boards, etc. But not all of them yet. It
is therefore with pleasure we an-
nounce that before 2014, all kitchens
at Nybrogård will have received the
‘new’ look.

down, pulling the vinyl off the floor,
spackeling and plastering
the walls, installing linoleum, pain-

and tile and painting and installing
the last cupboards.

-Election of a new treasurer. A new
treasurer is needed for the NYK and
network accounts. The current trea-
surer is leaving because of long term
illness. The job is paid and set to
around 4-5 hours per month. The job
entails taking care of salary pay-
ments, withdrawal of money for
NYK’s clubs, the yearly financial re-
port and obligatory participation in
the residents’ council meetings.

a) New chairmen for the Exercise
Room
The former chairman has moved
from the dormitory during the sum-
mer vacation and two new chairmen
have been pointed out as candidates
for the position. Alexander Frederik-
Bagge L17 and Alexander G28 – The
proposal is to appoint both to the po-
sition. No objections—chosen unani-
mously.
It is noted that the member fee pro-
blem is looked into, since many do not
pay. Deadlines and consequences are
an option.
b) New chairman for the Cinema
Club
A new chairman is needed for the
Cinema Club, since the current chair-
man is leaving the dormitory. Jonas
Høj, G24 is volunteering for the posi-
tion – other interested resi-dents are
also welcome. Because Jonas is not
present, he can not be elected—no
one is chosen—the chairman will look
into this.
c) New residents’ council chair-
man
Since the current chairman is leav-
ing the dormitory, a new is needed to
fill the position. The job entails kee-
ping an overview of the resi-dents’
council ‘stasks and follow up on the-
se, as well as making urgent decisi-
ons on behalf of the residents’ coun-
cil. The new chairman must be found
within the representatives of the
council. The job is for 1-1,5 hours per
month.

- Board member in KælderCaféen
The chairman will appoint a tempo-
rary board member to KælderCaféen.
The member will function as inter-
mediary between the café and the
residents’ council.
Ea is chosen for the position. This will
be approved at the next meeting.
-Mold in ST-odd
There have been complaints about
mold in the rooms in ST-odd. As ten-
nant, you are obligated to report this
problem to the landlord, and then the
operations department will take care
of it. The board will decide whether
mechanical ventilation is a possibili-
ty. This requires that we are dealing
with a real problem and it will be
discussed at the next meeting.
The representatives will discuss the
problem with their hallways.

- KælderCaféen has stopped letting
residents borrow the café. There are
not enough bartenders for these
events. A proposal is made to lock
down the bar area and remove the
need for personnel—the renter must
be responsible for cleaning up. It is
noted that such a decision should be
discussed in the residents’ council
before being made. This will be ad-
ded as an item for the next meeting.
Thomas will e-mail the details of
this decision.
11) Date for next meeting
The meeting is set for October 1st,
2013 in the GH-basement
Any cancellations must be submit-
ted at www.nybro.dk > Residents’

Temporarily
closing the bar!
The dormitory’s Friday bar, Kæl-
derCaféen is closing down from
the end of September until Octo-
ber 25th. This is due to an
outstanding floor renovation, which
after being installed will have to
settle and temper. The new surface
of the floor will be made of epoxy
which has a reputation for being
both durable and long lasting.
As mentioned, the first opening will
be October 25th, where work is
being done to make something big
out of it. If this does not make it
on the schedule for the re-opening
night, it will definitely happen in
the month after.

Municipal election in Gladsaxe 40% by 2020 because I demanded a
quick revision of the plan.
Why are you even running?
I am running to ensure that the city
council continues working with as much
possible solidarity and sustainability in
mind. Primarily older people are mem-
bers of the various councils, so it is also
important to maintain a certain degree
of age difference, so all generations are
heard. I think it is very exciting to work
with these issues. I have always had a
netural interest in society and local com-
munity especially. This goes over well
with my education where i study poli-
tics, administration and geography.
Why should we vote for your party?
Because a strong Socialist People’s
Party is needed to ensure that the mu-
nicipality continues to focus on the best
possible service for its citizens. To make
sure we do not outsource to private com-
panies whose top priority is profit. And
to ansure that the environmental
agenda is not forgotten again. It was
nonexistent 4 years ago and the Social-
ist People’s Party has a very big interest
in keeping our municipality in the front
seat, where we are now. The Socialist
People’s Party is a stable partner who is
willing to compromise when it makes
sense to do so. This is where we differ
somewhat from our friends in the Red-
Green Alliance (Enhedslisten).
I can understand if people are dissatis-
fied with the Socialist People’s Party’s
work on a national level, but that is not
connected with our efforts locally, where
we have fought and won many victories.
So, remember the municipal election on
November 19th, where you can also be a
part of changing the future for both
yourselves and others!
Emma, S-24
In November, Gladsaxe city council and
the regional council for the capital re-
gion are having elections. 25 members
will be elected for the city council and
41 members will be elected for the re-
gional council.
You are probably thinking ‘why do I
need to know that? Do I even want to
read this article—it is an article on
local politics? It does not matter
whether I vote or not. And is it not
enough that I vote at the parliament
election?’
Thomas Monberg is running for the city
council as a representative of the So-
cialist People’s Party (SF), and we ahve
asked him some of the same questions.
Why should we even vote?
Because the number of young voters is
extremely low. It is actually a little
embarrasing. At the election in 2009,
less than half of the young people be-
tween 19 and 21 in Copenhagen voted.
And even more importantly; because
what is happening in the municipality
affects us young people. The problem
with unemployment of young people is
solved in the municipalities, the busses
that bring you to and from school, in-
cluding the bus to DTU, the rights of
the rowers on Bagsværd lake, cultural
activities and exciting projects that
newly educated engineers can partici-
pate in is all decided in the municipal-
ity.
Have you ever gotten a proposal
through?
Yes! A venue for young people is one of
me and my party’s biggest victories. We
have received DKK 30 million to estab-
lish it, and I really think it can turn
Gladsaxe’s cultural potential up a
notch.
We have fought long and hard to estab-
lish an eco-lane from Lundtofte to
Ishøj, which will benefit many DTU
students. I am very active environmen-
tally and also contributed to raising the
goal for CO2 emissions from 25% to

A) ST is having trouble with
noise from the day care. The day
care uses the area outside the win-
dows of the ST block and this is an
inconvenience for the residents. What
is the arrangement with the day
care? Can it be changed? Many people
use the path along the kitchen. The
possibility of putting up a sign noting
that the path is private should be
explored, because guests look in win-
dows and walk their dogs without
leash etc.
B) The Canoe Club is applying for
DKK 6,700 for repairs and main-
tenance. Application for DKK 6,700
to repair the two red kayaks and new
paddles since a number of them have
been broken due to them being mis-
used.
C) The Canoe Club is applying for
DKK 10,000 to deepen the area
around the jetty. With a new jetty,
we are closer to making sure that the
canoers and kayakers can use the
equipment without it getting dam-
aged from regular use. But there is a
problem with the water depth around
the bridge. DKK 10,000 is needed to
deepen the area. 0,5-1 meter will be
removed over a length of 5 meters on
either side of the jetty.
D) The Cake Festival is applying
for DKK 309 to cover expenses.
The Cake Festival will be held again
this fall and the committee is apply-
ing for the expenses to be covered.
See appendix 1.
E) Application for money to
deepen the area around the jetty.
F) New chairman for the Cinema

ema Club is needed since the previ-
ous chairman is moving from the dor-
mitory. Jonas Høj is volunteering—
others interested are welcome.
G) Board member in KælderCa-
féen. At the last meeting, the chair-
man appointed a temporary board
member to KælderCaféen. The mem-
ber must now be officially inaugu-
rated or a new member chosen.

New winds blow on F.C. Nybro
A month ago, we reported that the
football teams had finally started the
season after a long summer break.
Now we can tell you that the fall sea-
son is almost over. Because of the
summer break’s skewed placement
in the calendar, the fall season is
alway smuch shorter than the spring
season, since the evening sun is al-
ready starting to disappear.
In the past month, both teams have
played two matches each, while the
men have 3 matches to go and the
ladies have 2.
The men’s team’s first match was
against Egmont, the league’s runner
up, who usually play in the top part
of the league each year. That is also
the case this year, but against all
odds, Nybro was very much in the
game until the last ten minutes of
the match. After an unlucky goal
early in the game, the opponents we-
re kept in check for a long time.
Shortly before the break, however,
Egmont scored again to 0-2.
The men set off the second half much
better, and already in the first two
minutes, two good attempts were
made at goal—one of them even hit
the post. The chock was evident in
the Egmont team, who no longer
created the same flow up the pitch.
Nybrogård would later close the gap
between them, when Marius alone
against the keeper made it 1-2 with
20 minutes to go. After this, how-
ever, disaster struck. A yellow card
and a tired crew could not keep up in
the end, which gave Egmont 3 easy
goals, towards the final result of 1-5.
The men’s second match was can-
celled a few days before it was sup-
posed to take place because it would
not be possible for the team to as-
semble on the given day.
The ladies have done a little better
than the men, although they did
have a rough start. Away against
Nordic, they hoped to bring home a
point after the 4-4 result earlier in
the season. However, the opponents
were simply too good on the day and
a player for the opposing team even
managed to jest the guests. All in all
the result was a beating of 0-8,
which, however, does not fairly rep-
resent the plays and chances created
throughout the match.
Also the ladies second match was
cancelled—however, this was due to
the opposing team not being able to
assemble their team on the day of
the match. That gave the ladies 3
points, which was enough to put
them in 3rd pace—next to RJK in
second.
The big talk between the teams,
however, has not been the porr re-
sults. The managers for both teams,
Gabriel B-62 and Jennie L-14 have
both announced that they are leav-
ing their duties as managers after
this season. That leaves the question
of who will become leader of the
teams in the coming season open. No
one has volunteered for either team
yet. The men are looking at a group-
manager option where several play-
ers share the responsibility as man-
ager, since no single person has been
willing to do it alone.
Both teams could use more players
from the dormitory since they have
both experienced using players from
outside to be able to assemble their
teams. This is such a big problem
with the ladies that they are consid-
ering creating a merged team with
POP, who are experiencing the same
problem with their ladies’ team.
Since practice and matches are or-
ganized in the same locations for
both dormitories, the process of coor-
dinating schedules would be the
least of their worries.

Beet and garlic soup
I can not help myself from returning to the inspiration
from last month’s column. I have found another recipe
from the fantastic cook book I bought during the sum-
mer break. I keep finding great recipes in this book,
and this one is an option that provides a delicious,
inexpensive and seasonal dinner.
The recipe is for beet and garlic soup. Many of you
might furrow your brow and be discouraged by the
large quantity of beets, but try the recipe anyway, the-
re is a good chance you might be surprised.
Soup for 2 people
200g parsnips or parsley root
150g red beets
1 tbsp. Olive oil
1 tsp. Rosemary
1/2 garlic bulb (do not peel the cloves—the bulb
will be baked in the oven)
6 dl. vegetable bouillon
1 tbsp. Lemon juice
Salt and pepper
Peel the parsnips and beets and cut them into smaller
pieces. Turn them in oil on a baking sheet with baking pa-
per together with rosemary, salt and pepper.
Rinse the garlic and cut it with one slice through all the
cloves. Place the two halves with the cut edge facing down
on the baking sheet.
Bake the vegetables in one layer at 175 C in a convection
oven for around 45 minutes until they are golden and ten-
der. You can flip them halfway through if you like.
Put the baked vegetables in a pot with buillon and let it
simmer under a lid for around 20 minutes. Blend the soup
with a stick blender or a food processor. Add some more
buillon to get the consistency you want. Add lemon juice,
salt and pepper to taste.
Serve the soup with bread or different toppings.
Topping with beans, fried rye bread and mozzarella
A handful fresh or defrosted beans are boiled shortly in
lightly salted water.
Dice a few slices of rye bread and fry them in chopped gar-
lic and olive oil in a pan. When the bread is crispy, add the
beans and let it fry for a moment. Take it off the heat and
place a plate on top. Add the mozarella just before serving.
Topping with parsley and bacon
Many would, if they had the choice, reserve an entire shelf
in their refrigerator just for bacon, so this ingredient is dif-
ficult for me to disregard in the topping. Fry bacon in a
pan, break it into small pieces and mix it with chopped
parsley—and mozarella if you like.
Enjoy
Enjoy!

Got something on your mind? NybroTidende is an important source of information for
everyone living at Nybrogård Kollegiet. Besides the stan-
dard announcements such as the notices of agenda for the upcom-
ing Residents' Council Meeting, as well as the Summary of the
meetings, all residents have the opportunity – free of charge – to
contribute with articles and other kinds of material for publication
in the gazette. The contribution must contain room number and/or
a designation of the relevant authority (secretariat/subletting/bike
workshop, etc.). The article must have a certain level of relevance
to the dorm. Articles may be sent by e-mail to [email protected]
with any applicable images attached. NybroTidende is published
at the end of every month. The deadline for submitting articles
and etc. to NybroTidende is the 20th of the preceding month.

Elysium
Neill Bomkamp has yet again cre-
ated a successful science fiction
film. This time by the name of Ely-
sium.
Elysium takes place in the year
2154 where just two classes exist:
The extremely wealthy who live in
luxury on a space station called
Elysium and everyone else who
lives on the overpopulated and ru-
ined Earth.
People on the surface are desperate
to escape to the space station, to get
away from the crime and poverty,
and many of them need the care of
facilities at the modern hospitals of
Elysium. At Elysium, life is quite
different and there are many who
would do anything to stop the im-
migration so they can maintain
their luxurious lifestyles.
The film plays on the contrasts and
it is evident that besides making a
film, Neill Blomkamp would also
like to get a message across.
In the beginning of the film, we are
quickly introduced to a child on Earth
named Max. He lives in what seems to
be a delapidated monastery with some
nuns. Here, we learn how the world
works and take a look at the overly
luxurious life that is lived in Elysium.
In the next scene, the boy is grown and
on his way to work. As he trudges
along, we see some ships flying over-
head. But our protagonist will just be
riding a regular bus—and there is a
long line to get on it. As he is standing
in line, spot checks are being con-
ducted by what look like robots with
the text “Policia” on their chest. Their
behavior is reminiscent of violent
prison guards and it gives the impres-
sion that people on the surface are
looked upon as nothing more than a
resource or pest that has no signifi-
cance to the people of Elysium.
But the world is not completely with-
out hope, and Max gets the opportu-
nity to do something about it. This
plays out in a well constructed plan
and staggering action as he attempts
to open the gates to Elysium.
As always with Neill Blomkamp,
the film is not all about action and
science fiction, as it also reflects a
reality from our own world. In this
case, it is the difference between
rich and poor, and that poverty is
actually a product of greed and ex-
treme wealth. The poverty is mostly
in focus, since we do not get ac-
quainted with the residents of Ely-
sium, beyond seeing how miserable
the lives on Earth are.
All in all, the film is beautifully
executed with plenty of speciel ef-
fects that outweigh the actors’
failed attempts—though they play
their parts fine—at making their
characters interesting. While the
more or less political motives can be
overlooked, most will probably no-
tice them and in some cases dis-
agree. This means that Elysium
earns 3,5/5 stars.

Reviews at NybroTidende!
As a new feature at NybroTidende, we will now bring reviews of
especially movies, but also fiction in the gazette. No movie or book
is too poor to be reviewed, as long as you believe that others may
benefit from the review. If you, for instance, think that there’s a
movie worth seeing, then by all means send a review of it to the
editorial staff at NybroTidende. We also accept more ”critical” re-
views, of course.
There are no specific rules regarding the reviews here at Ny-
broTidende, so there is plenty of room for your own personal style
of writing, but it’s obviously important to argue properly for your
point of view.
