    In order to welcome the debut Peking Opera performance of Ms. Huoding Zhang, Mr. Bin Ma talks about the appreciation of The Legend of White Snake of Cheng

    School In early September, renowned Peking Opera artist Huoding Zhang will make her debut at Lincoln Center in New York. She is one of the best actresses of Cheng School of Peking Opera, and probably the most sought-after artist in China as she draws more of young audience to this ancient theatrical art. She will bring the romantic repertoire The Legend of White Snake to North American audiences at her debut in New York. Therefore, New York Chinese Opera Society (NYCOS) will have Bin Ma, Director of Youth Troupe of NYCOS give a lecture in Anniello Bianco Room (3 Spruce Street, New York, NY, 10038) at Pace University on Saturday, July 25th at 4pm. (Directions: Get off at Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall of Subway Line 4, 5, 6; or get off at Fulton Street of Subway Line 2, 3, A, C, J, Z) Bin Ma, Director of Youth Troupe of NYCOS has learnt Peking Opera for more than 10 years since a young age and has performed in more than 10 performances both home and abroad. He has become a well-renowned overseas Peking Opera amateur. He has hosted a number of theatre arts lectures in New York and Boston. His is good at telling the stories in simple words and its humorous talking style attracted a large number of audiences of different age ranges. In July 25ths lecture, Bin will introduce the plot of the show as well as the performing techniques of Qingyi (elegant women) of Cheng School one scene after another. He will also give an overview of the historical development, roles, schools, martial arts, music and literature of Peking Opera according to the differences between the scenes. Through the lecture, the audiences will be able to understand the

  • virtualization of the performing skills of Peking Opera as well as appreciate the artistic personality of Qingyi of Cheng School, which is reserved and deep. The audiences will also learn the basic skills to watch Peking Opera shows, which they could apply when watching the debut performances of Ms. Huoding Zhang and for more Peking Opera enjoyment pleasure in the future. Last but not least, Yunru Han and Jing Dong, excellent NYCOS Youth Troupe performers of Qingyi will sing the famous excerpts of The Legend of White Snake during the lecture.
