HereCometheDemocratsAnd don’t say we didn’t warn you.The elections are over and while Nationally it could have been worse let me tell you what the failure of gun owners and Republicans to get off their butts and out to the polls on November 6, 2018 is causing.Wednesday, January 9, 2019 the major headline on page A5 of the Wall Street Journal read “Democrats Unveil Gun Legislation”. The article then went on to elaborate. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Rep Mike Thompson both Democrats from California and former Representative Gabby Giffords are pushing legislation that would expand background checks on all commercial, FFL and individual sales. The bill was sponsored by five democrats. Say good-bye to any pro gun legislation making it through the House ie; Reciprocity, The Hearing protection Bill or any improvement to the ATF.

Now moving onto New York State lets’ talk about the loss of the NYS Senate to the Democrats (23 R’s–40D’s), the Assembly currently at 103 Democrats to 47 Republicans and most importantly Governor Cuomo in the Governor’s Mansion. In the first week of session the calls for gun control are staggering. The Governor is calling for a strict Red Flag Law, a bump stock ban and extending the NICS waiting period to ten days from the current three. The Democratically controlled Senate is calling for Social Media Checks, Mandatory one million dollars of liability insurance, Safe Storage, Smart Guns, Reintroduction of COBIS, Microstamping, a Fifty Caliber ban and about 50 other pieces of legislation that are waiting on the side lines.Unfortunately, with the vast difference in numbers and Cuomo in the Governors chair there is little or nothing that can be done to stop any

of this legislation. Our only option is to challenge the most egregious laws in court. The NYSRPA and NRA will do that, but that takes time and money and please don’t forget that this is going on in numerous other states. Here’s our promise to the gun owners of New York State. We will challenge everything possible if we get the support from you. This will take money, time, volunteers and members. We need your help. I personally believe in the right of every lawful citizen to carry the firearms of their choice where and whenever they choose.

second Circuit Court of Appeals Northern regarding NYSRPA v. Cuomo challenging “may issue” laws. We filed suit against Mayor DeBlasio and his draconian NYC pistol permit laws (NYSRPA v. NYC) and we are currently awaiting word on application to the supreme court of the United States. He debates “anti-gunner’s” on national, local media and contributes to NRA News. He periodically lectures NYS colleges on Second Amendment and is co-founder of NY Sportsmen Outreach Day.

I want to tell you a story. It is important to realize why we are seeing problems with our political leaders representing us, and I hope this story puts some weight behind my/our long standing requests.I am a committeeman in my town Republican committee. I am not an officer or important member of the town committee by any means, just an average do as little as possible to stay in the committee and watch what is happening type guy. I believe I am fairly well regarded by the others, but I’m not any kind of policy maker or a weighted voice at all. I watch and listen more than anything. I have things on my plate, so I keep my head down and try to avoid any special assignments or officer positions. I attend eight or nine of the 12 monthly meetings to follow what’s going on, and I get the minimal 20 signatures around petition time in June. Monthly meetings are an hour and half to two hours and the signatures take three or four hours. Bottom line is I am a regular no-one, not-important type guy.I live in Kingston, a small city that has been skewing more and more liberal policy-wise. The Republicans have little clout politically so our committee is under-supported, tired of being beaten, and was happy when a potential candidate for mayor attended our monthly meeting in October to ask for official/unofficial support for him to take the Republican line for Mayor. He wanted to get an early start on fundraising in December 2018 for the 2019 election cycle and asked for the committee to pledge to support him, so he could use the official unofficial endorsement to raise money.

Everything is good so far and from my limited knowledge of the guy he probably is the best bet to unseat the current mayor. This guy would have better policy than the current socialist leaning liberal democrat Mayor. This potential candidate would easily out-match any other republican candidate as far as funding goes, and of course would have the easiest election cycle work load for the committee.In the room were 9 of the 35 committee members and even though we didn’t have a majority of committee members in attendance, the by-laws permit any amount of members in attendance to suffice as a legitimate quorum. After a three minute random, thoughtful, but underwhelming and regrettably informal unprepared chain of thought presentation by the potential candidate on what he would be most concerned about addressing, I believe eight of the nine people were ready to give him backing officially, and a motion to do so was made and seconded.I was disappointingly amazed at what I was witnessing. Before the vote could be called, I quickly requested discussion and pointed out that I felt a positive vote at this point would be highly inappropriate based on the following: this candidate was not enrolled as a Republican and there are two other Republicans who had previously expressed interest. They may not have as good of financial backing or contact list, etc. but they should offered an equal opportunity to address the committee. Additionally, this candidate had faced zero vetting.ZERO VETTING!!! No interview, no questionnaire, no nothing. He is not a

committeeman, not a party member, no vetting at all but because he can bring the most money to the table, he was asking for backing. And he would have got it, if I wasn’t there.I pointed out that as committeemen, we have a fiduciary duty to represent all republicans and republican platform positions in good faith. Advancing a non-vetted candidate would be a breach of duty. How can we stand behind him, if we don’t know him or where he stands on republican positions. How can we hold him accountable once in office, if we have never requested his official position.After I spoke, the entire room changed and all but the man’s campaign manager (who no doubt was expecting to be awarded a key position after a successful election), agreed that the time loss would be well worth the effort to conduct a formal vetting. Some people were embarrassed to have been called on this and some were happy that someone spoke up to request doing the right thing.The motion to support him was tabled pending completion of a vetting process. A vetting committee was formed and I volunteered to create a questionnaire for this and any other candidates seeking future endorsements. (Can you believe there was no vetting committee or procedure in place at all!?) Well there is now, and believe me there are 2A questions in there too!The point here is not me or what I did. Although, I have to confess that as frustrating as it was to learn there was no vetting procedure in place, it felt great to know I made a difference. The point is that this

illustrates what is happening to us all. Tired, overburdened and unsupervised committees are taking the easy way out and backing candidates without proper vetting. Some people know they are taking shortcuts but there is no one holding them accountable. This is an obvious failure. We are getting poor candidates we can’t hold accountable and it causes a loss of trust and accountability with the party members.It cost me about 15 hours all in last year and now as a result this candidate, future candidates and the committee in the city where I live now know that there are expectations to vet and put candidates positions on the record, from a guy who cares about the second amendment. This is a perfect example of why WE HAVE GOT TO HAVE GUN OWNERS AND SPORTSMEN GET INVOLVED EVEN AT THIS BASIC LEVEL. I hope you will share this message with other 2A proponents and consider getting on your city or town committee. Who knows what your committee is up to without a watchful eye. The winner of the “2018 Win this Rifle” drawing is Lawrence G. Peate, from Albany, N.Y. On behalf of the NYSRPA Pistol team I wish to thank ALL of you that participated in this year’s drawing. The following is a good article on dry firing by author Dave Lange.Dave Lange is a member of the Zero/Lapua Pistol Team; previous National Indoor International Standard Pistol Champion; previous Distinguished Revolver National Champion; firing member of several U.S. Mayleigh Cup Teams; winner of numerous regional and state championships as well as a National record holder.It was breezy the first time I shot at Pistol Nationals, just enough to give the average shooter chicken finger and lower the scores. Some service shooters did very well and seemed unaffected by the wind. Being new, I believed the explanation that they do well in the wind because they practice in the wind. It took me a few years to learn the real reason—because they dry fire.Whether it’s windy, raining, sunny or cold, they pull the trigger the same way every time because they dry fire. Dry firing trains your subconscious in all of the basics. When you dry fire, check your stance, maintain a constant

grip, focus on the dot or front sight, maintain sight alignment and breathe properly, just as you would during live fire.If you can identify a weakness, concentrate on improving just that one skill while dry firing. For instance, if you are pumping your grip when you shoot sustained fire, concentrate on just maintaining a consistent grip while dry firing.Once you’ve learned the basics, continue to hone your skills through repetition, dry firing at least once a day, five days a week. Dry fire sessions only need to be 10 or fifteen minutes long—longer, if they remain productive. Don’t teach yourself bad habits by dry firing longer than you physically or mentally should. Remember, perfect practice makes perfect. My dry fire training is 15 minutes in the morning, when I get home from work and before I go to bed.When I dry fire, I start with the muzzle about an inch from a blank wall. Not having a target and being close to the wall puts me in a natural point of aim and prevents my eyes from focusing far away. I run a mental program before every shot or string of shots, so I do the same when I dry

fire. I do not pull my trigger without first running a mental program, ever! In my mental program, I visualize my red dot in the center of the bull. While I focus on the red dot and squeeze the trigger, I imagine the shot breaking and the bullet going straight through the center of the red dot. Then I imagine a target with a hole in the center of the X-ring and think, “... and you’ve got an X.” I use the same technique for iron sights except I focus on the front sight instead of the red dot. The whole idea is to focus on the sights and break the shot without disturbing the sight alignment or moving the dot.After about five or 10 minutes of dry firing against a blank wall, I dry fire at a reduced target across the room. I have found that dry firing against a blank wall trains me to keep my sights aligned and my eyes focused on the sights. Dry firing at a reduced target helps steady my hold.When a shooter asks me what to do about a specific problem, the first thing I do is ask them if they dry fire. I can’t tell you how many shooters say, “No, I tried that and it doesn’t work for me.” Dry firing does work as long as you commit to it for as long as you want your shooting and scores to improve.

The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association is an avid protector of freedom in The United States. They strongly support the right Americans have to bear arms. Their mission is to support this privilege and to help facilitate the advantages of it through ethical and responsible education, informative research, and active participation in legislative matters.The NYSRPA is a statewide organization powered by volunteers and made possible by donations from members across the state and country. They are the official state association of

the National Rifle Association, NRA, for New York. They work with the NRA and regard all of their laws and requirements; however, the NYSRPA is a separate and independent entity, relying on their own members for support and continuation.The role the NYSRPA plays as a state association is very important and their impact can be felt in almost every scenario which includes legal arms and weaponry. To begin, the NYSRPA works tirelessly to ensure that all laws, both old and new, support human rights and one’s claim to the

2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms. With support from the NRA and it’s members, the NYSRPA has petitioned and fought in courts large and small to protect the rights it stands for. The NYSRPA also provides training, support, and funding for all shooting sports that take place in New York. They will assist in finding instructors for anyone interested in becoming a legal and active marksman. The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association plays a major role in discovering and sharing all the information a shooter in New York would want to know. They share knowledge on the law and how it pertains to shooting regulations both for sport and for personal protection purposes. They communicate to the public about firearm related topics via radio, television broadcasts, newspapers, and magazines. Laws and regulations surrounding firearms are closely monitored by the NYSRPA. No changes can or will occur without the active testimony and participation of NYSRPA members. They remain the number one advocate for firearms rights in the state of New York. Donning safety glasses with my father peering over my shoulder I opened my first canister of Hercules 2400. This was a silver and blue paper canister with the metal top and red screw cap, not like the molded plastic canisters of the 21st century. I had finally been allowed to unlock the cabinet that held the loading supplies I dreamed of using. My goal was to load and fire my first handloaded metallic cartridges; 44-40 WCF (non-balloon head casings of course). My lessons of safety came directly from the Lyman Reloading Handbook, with a flat white plastic spiral binding.More than three decades have passed since my introduction to scales, dies and press operation. Oddly enough, in the effort to quiet his son, my father started me on a lifelong passion. My boldest memory of that afternoon

at the bench was the sinking feeling when I realized that we wouldn’t shoot our reloads that day. It was torturous to chamber the rounds in the slick Marlin action, realizing that a chamber test was all the satisfaction we would know.The earlier chapters of the story occurred prior to my birth as a Lieutenant from Camp Lejeune purchased a used loading press from Ray Warren’s in Jacksonville. N.C. Nothing fancy, just a single stage press, powder measure and scale but they were the tools that opened doors. Learning how to use a balance and read a set of verniers were skills I absorbed earlier than my classmates. Maybe this was what pushed me to a hands-on engineering school. At least it provided a method to prevent stockpiling cash as my lawnmowing

and driveway sealing days began. Reloading components were now part of my budget.If you have never attempted reloading, I recommend you do; with conditions attached. Above all, learn safe loading principals and follow them. A skilled reloader with quality tools and a clean workspace will shorten your learning curve significantly. Late this summer in preparation for our Whittington Center pilgrimage, I helped my friend Rob load his first rounds. The satisfaction of hitting a target with your own reloads was highlighted as I witnessed this man 15 years my senior smirk with excitement. Smacking metal targets out to 700 yards with those 7mm-08 loads made his expenditure of time and dollars seem justified. Just as our ancestors knapped their own flint, we too have

an opportunity to rely on our own abilities. Pride is certainly a reason to reload.I have harvested game animals with both factory and reloaded ammunition. When the stakes have been highest, I chose to load my own. Reading about African game and the bone and muscle structure filled most of the winter of 2016-17. What bullets would I push and at what velocity, to ensure clean and ethical harvests? I could have done this with factory ammunition but this project forced my wife and I to learn about the animals we would pursue. We tailored our loads and watched with satisfaction as the skinning shed was filled.I remember years when my reasons for reloading included saving money. In the years of $0.89 gas and $7.00 30-30 ammo I could load a box for less than $3.00. This was before purchasing progressive machines and visiting places like Dillon Precision in person. I will say that my materials input cost

for components shows a reduction in spending over factory ammo. Please let me know if you succeed in keeping reloading to a small scale, cost effective operation. Now with a spouse who reloads we at least agree on purchasing quality tools and materials. We have yet to have a Christmas tree without Dillon Precision under it. I guess the blessing is my daughter now asks questions and visits as I reload. Maybe she too will know the basics of standard deviation and ballistic coefficients before reaching high school. It can be contentious when my wife and I both happen upon a good stash of range brass; soon enough we may be competing with our child. We laugh now, watching video of our first safari when I turned to my wife to ask her to search for my prized Hornady brass. This occurred seconds after I reflexively ran the bolt on my NULA 30-06 rifle and a casing landed in the camelthorn. In preparation for an unnecessary follow up shot, I risked

having an ammo box with only 49 empty casings. Admittedly reloaders are a different breed. We scrounge, trade and share components, pet loads and sale items. A favorite high school teacher will always be remembered for his shotshell loading mentorship and the load data he shared. A similarly afflicted friend still emails me when he finds 300 Whisper ammo or brass on sale. A coworker made my day calling from Vermont when he purchased a bulk bag of virgin .348 Winchester brass for me. Each time a component shortage strikes, you learn who your truest friends are. If these sentiments ring true in your life, or you have ever searched high and low with a friend from Rotterdam for 220 grain 375’s you are a reloader. If these are foreign thoughts; please take a class, call a friend or watch some videos, reloading should be experienced by all shootists. Feel the satisfaction for yourself.

The turn of the 20th century was an As part of the arms modernization program began near the end of the 19th Century, the Japanese military sought to update their handguns. Since by that time, their collection of Smith & Wesson top-break revolvers was wearing out.The Type 26 (Meiji 26 Nen Ken Ju meaning Pistol, Pattern of the 26th year of the Meiji era) was developed in 1893 and issued starting in 1894. This design was the first modern handgun produced by Japan and had an interesting combination of features.Like the Smith and Wesson revolvers that preceded them in service, the Type 26 is also a top-break action. Interestingly, the frame has a hinged side plate similar to the French Model 1892 revolver. This side plate can be opened to the rear in order to expose the internal parts of the action for cleaning and maintenance.The Type 26 revolver is 9" in length and weighs around 1lb 15oz unloaded. The sights are a groove milled into the top-strap of the frame and a half-moon style front sight which is pinned into a base forged integral with the 4.69" barrel. This is also similar to the Smith & Wesson revolvers previously issued. Machining was generally excellent, with good attention paid to fit and finish. While metal hardness was lower than that used in western handguns, it was sufficient for the unique, black powder 9mm cartridge used in this revolver. They were even strong enough that when the load was changed to smokeless powder around 1900, they handled the additional pressure safely.

Firing only in double action and with a long heavy trigger pull, accuracy was challenging. In addition, the cylinder was only locked at the moment of firing, when the hammer was at full cock. This meant the cylinder could rotate freely at other times and potentially present a fired case or empty chamber to the firing position. This was a serious oversight in the design and potentially devastating in combat.However, considering that forty years earlier, the Imperial Japanese Army had been armed with matchlocks, the development and production of this pistol was a major feat.The Type 26 revolver was in service with the Japanese military from 1894 through 1945, seeing action in the Russo-Japanese War, World War I, and World War II. Firearms expert Ian Hogg considered this length of service to be a testament to their original workmanship and,

despite their flaws, a better combat weapon than later Japanese produced pistols.Over this period, just fewer than 60,000 Type 96 revolvers were manufactured.If you’re interested in more details about the Type 26 as well as other Japanese military handguns, there are two reference books to consider. Collectors would benefit primarily from “The Collector’s Guide to Imperial Japanese Handguns 1893-1945” by James D. Brown. While those with a more historical interest should look for a copy of “Japanese Military Cartridge Handguns 1893-1945” by Harry L Derby. In case you missed the headlines SCOTUS has deemed in their wisdom to take up NYSRPA’s challenge of NYC’s law. The law being challenged before the Supreme Court prohibits licensed handgun owners from taking guns almost anywhere outside of city limits. You cannot take your gun to your second home outside the city; you cannot take your gun to shooting practice outside the city; you can only

travel with your gun within the state upon receiving a separate hunting permit. In the city, you can only take it to the shooting range…Preposterous. The issue in the case seems at first glance localized and small, but the implications and potential ramifications are tremendous. The case could very well set new precedent that makes it easier for gun rights activists to challenge other burdensome regulations and empower and protect “reciprocity” efforts nationwide. If we win this case, every gun owner in NYC is protected from travel bans and that means every American in any other city too. The Supreme Court will examine New York City’s ban on transporting a licensed and unloaded handgun outside the city limits, the first Second Amendment challenge it has accepted in nearly a decade. The case will be decided either in the coming weeks, or in the court’s next term, which starts in October and ends in June 2020.“It could be a landmark case with major implications for gun policy,” said Adam Winkler, the author of “Gunfight: The Battle Over the Right to Bear Arms in America.” “The case could articulate broad principles about the Second Amendment, and especially the Second Amendment outside the home.”Court scholars said Justice Kavanaugh’s replacement of Justice Kennedy could lead to an abrupt lurch from the court’s previous decisions. -New York Times Jan. 22, 2019

Tom King and New York State Rifle & Pistol Association filed suit in 2013 challenging transport limits in federal court in New York. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan last year rejected the constitutional challenge and said the restrictions advanced the city’s interest in protecting public safety. The appeals court said the restrictions did not run afoul of the Supreme Court’s 2008 ruling that found for the first time that the Second Amendment protected an individual’s right to gun ownership under federal law, specifically to keep a handgun at home for self-defense. The high court in 2010 extended that right to state and local laws as well. Undeterred by years of setbacks Tom King, NYSRPA and the NRA pressed on to the U.S. Supreme Court. The decision by SCOTUS to hear this case indicates a new interest regarding gun rights on the court, where conservatives hold a 5-4 majority. The Supreme Court had not taken up a major firearms case since issuing important rulings in 2008 and 2010 that established an individual right to own guns for self-defense inside the home.Since then, the justices had avoided taking up another major firearms case, despite gun rights proponents’ repeated attempts to extend those rights to other types of weapons and the hotly contested question of to what extent that right applies outside the home. The intrepid and dogged determination of NYSRPA leadership has won the support of the National

Rifle Association. They said it was time for the court to clarify what the right to keep a firearm for personal protection means.“The City does not even attempt to argue that what petitioners seek — the modest ability to transport their licensed firearms, unloaded and locked away separate from ammunition, to a shooting range or second home outside city limits—poses any threat to public safety,” the challengers’ brief said. “The City’s ban cannot be reconciled with a Second Amendment that protects individual rights or with any meaningful level of constitutional scrutiny.” NYSRPA As I mentioned previously this is the first Second Amendment case the justices will hear since ruling that the Constitution protects an individual right to keep and bear arms, in District of Columbia v. Heller in 2008, and that this right applies against the states as well as the federal government, in McDonald v. Chicago in 2010. New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. 2019SmallArmsFiringSchool byEdWalden

2019 will mark the 30th year that the U.S. Service Rifle Small Arms Firing School (SAFS) is being provided by members of the NYSRPA to members of the NYSRPA. This is a two-day course that is designed to provide you with the basic knowledge required to safely compete in a High Power Rifle Match. This program will instruct you on firing from position, both slow and rapid fire with only sling support. We provide detailed blocks of instruction on safety, sight alignment and adjustment, trigger control, match operations and of course the fundamentals of marksmanship. This program is approved by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) and fulfils one of the requirements for purchasing firearms from the CMP. The instruction you receive will be exclusively on the AR-15 A2 Service Rifle with iron sights. Scopes are permitted in actual NRA and CMP competition however we concentrate on the fundamentals by using iron sights. Our host, The Peconic River Sportsman’s Club has National Match AR-15 A2 rifles for loan at no additional charge.

Our lead instructors are all current or past members of the NYSRPA Service Rifle Team. Many are Nationally ranked competitors as well as Distinguished Riflemen. Our team is also supplemented with volunteer competitors that hail from throughout NY State. You will receive one on one marksmanship instruction. The two-day course consists of about a half day of classroom instruction followed by dry fire exercises from position on the range. A short qualification course will also be fired at 50 yards using the AR-15 platform with a .22 rim fire upper. On Sunday, you will fire a modified CMP course at 200 yards using the AR-15 Service Rifle. We have put approximately 2000 persons through this course since its inception. Many have gone on to compete and win at the national level. The attendance for this course is limited to the first 66 qualified entries and will sell out quickly. You will find the complete registration form in this issue of the Bullet. The dates for 2019 are April 27 and 28. I hope we will see you there!

The die has been cast. Batten down the hatches and prepare for battle. The enemy is at hand! That is correct. Governor Cuomo now has complete control of New York State government. The Republicans in the Senate have been reduced to a minority. Andrew now will work his socialist agenda with no opposition in Albany.What type of war he will wage against us is not known for sure. However, I have a few ideas. We know that Andrew has no use for gun owners and that pesky Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He has made that very clear over a long period of time. He is intolerant of anyone opposed to his thinking. He has said that he would put the NRA out of business if he could.I believe that red flag law is on the way. If someone declares that you are unfit to own a firearm, your arms will be scooped up immediately by the government. It violates due process and

Andrew does not care. Safe storage of firearms is in the mix too. This is unenforceable and reminds me of police state tactics. Is every home in the state to be searched? Social media monitoring. Before you can obtain or renew a license for a handgun your comments on social media will be reviewed. This reeks of Big Brother and the Thought Police! Financial liability requiring every firearm owner to maintain at least a one million dollar liability policy in the event that a firearm you own is used to commit a crime. Finally, I think that registration of all long guns is also on the agenda. Andrew will seek to mimic New York City’s outrageous law.Way back when John Lindsey was mayor of New York the firearms control board was established. All shotguns and rifles were required to be registered with the city. All good citizens were assured that the three dollar cost to register would not rise and that the city just wanted to know

who owned a firearm. Fast forward to 1991 when Dinkins was mayor and the rules changed. The city posted a list of firearms that could no longer be possessed in the city. You could turn the firearm in to the police, sell it to an FFL dealer or demonstrate to the city that you had moved it outside the five counties of New York City. Your Second Amendment freedom evaporated! Finally, you may find it of interest to know that at the current three year firearm license will cost you one hundred and forty dollars plus ninety one fifty for fingerprinting!Take heed. The anti-gun politicians in Albany and Washington are after you. If you value your freedom and the freedom of your children and grandchildren, RESIST! Thank you to all our members who have been so understanding during our recent and ongoing computer conversion. It has been an intense undertaking and is not totally complete. We are working hard to get everything up and working. Once this is accomplished we will be able to do many things that our old system could not handle. Please bear with us.The classroom and meeting room in the back of our new building is scheduled to be completed the end of this month. We already held two board meetings even though the construction is not complete. Feel free to stop in and see our new headquarters if you have not already done so.We will be attending many gun shows throughout the state this spring. We already have been to a show in Buffalo and Albany. We are scheduled to be in Syracuse and Long Island next. Your NRA ballot should be in your February issue of your NRA magazine.Now for a refresher on one of the important people from our history, Alexander Hamilton.Hamilton was born Jan. 11, 1755 or 1757 on the island of Nevis in the British West Indies to a couple who were not wedded. This made him the illegitimate child with his father (who was from Scotland) turning on

him and abandoning his mother prior to his birth. His mother was jailed several years for adultery. All in all, his childhood was not blessed. He suffered poverty and misery.Alexander was a talented and ambitious young boy. He was intelligent, courageous. He eventually wed Elizabeth Schuyler, who was the daughter of General Phillip Schuyler one of the wealthiest men of his time. Hamilton excelled as a writer while still a teenager and locals took up a collection to send him to a college in the British North American Colonies. Princeton rejected him, but King’s College (later known as Columbia) accepted him.Hamilton fought with honor in the Revolutionary War. He became General George Washington’s aide de camp, or his right-hand man. He personally led an attack and charge at the Battle of Yorktown. After resigning his military commission, he studied law and passed a legal examination within six months. He had been reading the law on his own in Nevis and at King’s College and had studied with John Jay and William Paterson, two future Supreme Court Justices. Hamilton helped promote the Constitutional Convention of 1787.He played a big role in helping the Constitution’s ratification as one of the three authors of the Federalist Papers along with Madison and Jay. He wrote 51 of the 85 essays, which are still consulted today by scholars and the Supreme Court. His authorship wasn’t made public until after his death in 1804.

President Washington appointed Hamilton as the first Secretary of the Treasury when our new nation was facing a steep financial crisis. Hamilton brokered a solution for paying off the former colonies’ war debt and organized the Treasury Department as a powerful unit. He formed the First Bank of the United States and convinced other nations that the U.S. was financially sound. Hamilton’s moves as Secretary of the Treasury and as a proponent of a strong central government led to the unofficial formation of the Federalist Party by 1791. In response, leaders like James Madison and Thomas Jefferson formed a political faction known as the Republicans that directly objected to Hamilton and his ideas. The partisan clashes between the two groups would persist until Hamilton’s death. In the deadlocked presidential election of 1800, a House of Representatives Continued on page 24

Why does a man dedicate the golden years of his life fighting the leftist agenda, in the pursuit of Truth, Justice and the American Way? Because the option of ignoring the obviously anti-American agenda of the hard left is simply not an option. Tom embraced the idea as no superior way of civilization has yet presented itself, enemies of the American Way must be defeated. We cannot pass this existential threat to our national concept of individual freedom. The ideal political power and the rights of self-defense are no longer reserved to the hands of our sovereign people are concepts that must forever remain alien to our children’s children. The truth about the results of gun control when explored are actually quite the opposite of what the left presents and is in fact absolutely horrifying, more about that latter. The American Patriot is easy to recognize today because WE are engaged in battles on so many fronts. On the battle front in N.Y. State is where we can find Tom King leading the charge against tyrannical legislation in legislative office building and in the courts! The basic concepts of what it means to be an American are under direct and consistent assault in the media and thru dubious political actions and actors. Open borders and the promotion of a cradle to grave welfare state, politically correct speech police in the media that silence descent (out of fear of serious reprisals at work or in public spaces). These things alone have the Founders of Our Nation spinning in their graves, but they are not the most dubious and potentially dangerous and most destructive to our future. The actions

and intent that really should scare us? The relentless efforts to burden us with ever tightening restrictions and costs piled on lawful gun ownership and the lawful use of firearms. Restrictions that effectively are a hindrance to gun ownership and as such constitute what the founders described as “infringements”. NYSRPA continues to fight in the courts when legislative action goes beyond constitutional restrains. With the balance of power recently shifted so far to the left, these fights are about to heat up. If we don’t resist with all our might, where is it all going? Well to know that we need only look to the past. Democrats are not the first political party to demand the end of gun ownership and work to take away a populations guns. Leftists have been doing it all over the world much to the horror of their subjugated peoples. Many tyrannies and leftist nations embraced the idea. It NEVER went well for the people in all of these cases.

You won’t see this data on the U.S. evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property. And yes, gun-control laws adversely affect ONLY the law-abiding citizens.With guns, we are ‘citizens’; without them, we are ‘subjects’. During WW II, the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED! Gun owners in the U.S. are the largest armed forces in the World!If you value your freedom, spread this anti-gun control message to all of your friends. Take a stand for your rights! If the meetings; phone calls; membership renewals; and offers to help since the latest election are any indicator, people supporting the 2nd Amendment are not going away. We have only just begun to fight. Cast a vote for the 2nd Amendment’s good friend Tom King in the NRA board elections this month.We need Tom King to continue to grow his influence on the NRA board. He will continue to bring home the resources to face the left in court today and in greater numbers tomorrow. He will also attract the specialized legal talent we need to win these critical 2nd Amendment battles in N.Y.
