Silly Songs and Manic Monologues “The best thing to come out of Shropshire in ages”
** Edinburgh Festival 4-star review **
After 25 years in the business, ‘Three Men in a Bow Tie’ must be Shropshire’s favourite entertainers. Their classic comedy show of ridiculous songs and crazy monologues has now entertained over 55 thousand people … from Scotland to the South Coast … in countless theatres, 400 village halls, numerous festivals, half a dozen tents, three cowsheds and a rather posh opera house.
Now they are back on home territory for their anniversary celebrations. If you’ve not seen them before … now’s your chance. If you have, you’ll know what you are in for!
The trio consists of actor-instrumentalist, songbird and storyteller Sally Tonge, BBC broadcaster and writer Chris Eldon Lee, and satirist, songwriter and Shropshire dairy farmer Martin “Monologue” Jones; plus the amazing Freda the Female Farmer, agriculture’s answer to Dame Edna Everage.
l There will be a raffle for the Mayors Charities in the interval.
WARNING: Expect jokes about Telford!!

Codebreakers, Enigma, Bletchley Park & the Battle of the Atlantic
Thursday 24th October
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 72 Glebe Street, Wellington TF1 1JY
7.30pm
An illustrated lecture by Dr Mark Baldwin (accompanied by an original Enigma machine).
Dr Baldwin, who has delivered over 800 presentations on WW2 Intelligence and related subjects, explores the fascinating story of the Enigma ciphers, which the Germans believed unbreakable. Nevertheless, the Bletchley Park codebreakers unravelled Enigma, and thus read several million German messages, providing reliable Intelligence.
To exemplify the importance of codebreaking in winning the war, Dr Baldwin analyses the Battle of the Atlantic, a fierce conflict lasting nearly six years and costing over 60,000 lives.
The presentation is followed by a demonstration of one of the few surviving Enigma machines, allowing members of the audience hands-on operation of this iconic device.

Jack the RipperA.J. Griffiths-Jones
Friday 25th October
White House Hotel, Watling Street, Wellington TF1 2NJ
7.30pm
During the year of 1888 ‘Jack the Ripper’ claimed at least five victims, causing horrendous injuries and imminent death. His identity still remains a mystery, despite many researchers unearthing new and surprising clues.
A.J. Griffiths-Jones began her research in the 1980’s, intending to prove that one Ripper suspect was being falsely accused. In an incredible twist of fate, she found much more than she ever believed possible and could hold the murderer’s name in her files.
This eye-opening talk will take you back in time, picking up clues, dismissing the regular suspects and looking at the case with a whole new perspective.

l Shawbury Military Wives Choir
Shawbury Military Wives Choir was formed in February 2012 and is part of the Military Wives Choir Foundation (MWCF). The Shawbury MWC has participated in all 4 Albums recorded by the Foundation such as Stronger Together, In my Dreams, Home for Christmas, Remember. The MWCF has 75 choirs spread across the world and the choir at Shawbury has approximately 30 members.
No audition or ability to read music is necessary, just a willingness to have a go and enjoy.
We have been honored to have had some wonderful events over the last 7 years. In 2013 we were chosen as one of
7 choirs to support Sir Cliff Richard. We sang the National Anthem at The Grand National in 2014 and performed at the Anglican Cathedral Liverpool in aid of SSAFA in the same year. More recently the MWCF has been supporting Lulu’s tour which involved 43 choirs at 35 venues across the country and Shawbury joined Cosford MWC at Theatre Severn. These are just a small selection of some of the exciting opportunities we have had together over the years with many, many other wonderful local and national performances; however, the choir offers more than just these events.
The choir primarily offers friendship, support and a sense of belonging. A real chance to have some ‘me’ time. The ladies know that should they need any of us, we will be there for them.
It has been a very exciting year to date with live performances at
Shrewsbury Carers’ Week and Cosford Food Festival.
The Military Wives Choir Shawbury are excited to be returning to Wellington again this year to support the Festival. We look forward to performing many of songs from our albums on the night.
l Collection plate takings will be shared between All Saints Church and the Mayors charities.

MATTERSCONFEDERATION OF PASSENGER TRANSPORT UK
WELCOME to Commercial
Matters, our annual
newsletter taking a
closer look at the latest
technological and
operational advancements in the bus and
coach industry, along with details of the
many goods and services being developed
and provided by our Commercial Partners
and Supplier Members. In this edition you
will also nd information on some of the
lesser-known bene ts of CPT, as well as
important documentation and contact
information relating to your membership of
the UK’s leading trade body for the bus and
coach industry.
● Latest Developments
With the industry currently facing
some of its greatest and most signi cant
operational challenges in recent times
– Brexit, increasing road congestion,
electri cation and autonomous vehicles,
air quality targets, to name but a few –
CPT, with the backing of its membership,
is currently being restructured to ensure
that it remains fully t for purpose and
best placed to meet and respond to the
many challenges which lie ahead. With
a refocusing of e orts to get the key
messages across to decision makers,
a higher pro le at events, and greater
engagement across the wider transport
sector, I am con dent that CPT will be
ideally positioned to lead the debate in
2019 and beyond, with the organisation
continuing to go from strength to strength.
Our members also have a key role to play
in the on-going success of CPT. The more
you actively engage and take part in the
discussion, attending regional meetings,
national committees and other key
industry events, the stronger and clearer
the collective message and CPT’s voice
becomes.
● Commercial Activities
Along with many trade bodies, the
majority of CPT’s income comes from
members’ subscriptions. However, through
our commercial partnerships (see inside)
and a number of business developments
of our own, we plan to continue growing
our non-core income throughout 2019.
This additional income will not only be
used to support the day-to-day work
of the organisation, but it will help to
fund additional services and pro-active
campaigning for the good of the wider
membership. Our commercial partnerships with
leading industry suppliers, including Legal
services (Backhouse Jones), Insurance
(Gallagher), Compliance support (Lloyd
Morgan Group), Tachograph Analysis
(TruTac), Fuel (DKV), Vehicle Breakdown
Assistance (Nationwide Coach Assistance)
and Translation & Interpretation services
(LanguageLine Solutions) have all been
developed in order to provide members
with the highest levels of service at
extremely competitive rates. And our
 nancial relationships with these partners
also allows us to keep your subscription
costs down. You can read all about their
latest o ers to members in this edition of
Commercial Matters.
CPT has recently launched CPT Energy, a
service dedicated to helping members get
the very best rates from utility providers for
their business energy (gas and electric). In
partnership with Make It Cheaper Ltd - the
UK’s leading business energy switching
service – CPT Energy has already saved
members across the UK many thousands of
pounds on energy bills, whilst also removing
the hassle and valuable time required when
both dealing with utility companies and
switching tari s at contract renewal times.
Due to the initial success of CPT Energy, we
are in now in advanced talks to extend this
o er to include telephone and broadband
services. I hope to announce details very
soon. CPT is also working closely with the team
at TruTac on the development and launch
of a new and dedicated licence checking
service. Adding to the comprehensive suite
of services already provided by TruTac,
including CPT Tacho Analysis and CPT
Daily Checks, the licence checking service
will provide members with direct access
to a secure, online portal allowing you to
check that your employees’ hold a correct
and valid driving licence. Further details
on this initiative and all other commercial
developments will appear in our weekly
newsletter, Newsline, in due course. So
make sure you keep an eye out.
● And finally….
CPT is most grateful for your continued
support and we would like to wish you every
success in 2019. For further information on
any of the items appearing in Commercial
Matters, please contact membership@
