February 2017

Dear Champion Life Family,

“I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.” Psalm 9:1

As we look back at 2016, there were many things we can praise and thank the Lord for. Last year, was a

challenging year as we experienced transitions in several of our satellite churches. Despite the

difficulties due to the changes, the Lord remained faithful and His grace enabled us to overcome.

Throughout the year I am amazed at what the Lord accomplished through us. I am happy to report

some of the highlights of 2016.

LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

All our pastors and their governmental leadership teams from our satellite churches met for a weekend

of equipping at the beautiful Niagara Falls. Dan Mudhaub and Blair Mundell from Jubilee church,

Maidstone UK came as our resource speakers who taught on the Kingdom principles of leadership.

Pastor Filamer and Melit Arangote from our Champion Life Network church in the Philippines, Pastor

Vishnu and Alicia Seepersad from our Champion Life Network church in Trinidad, and Pastor Reggie and

Cecil Castañeda from RCMI church Philippines also attended the equipping conference and shared

their testimonies. As the pastors and leaders learned together, there were also times of refreshing and

fellowship. It was a wonderful time of unity as the leadership teams came together.

TAKING TERRITORIES

Last year Champion Life Centre advanced the Kingdom of God and took territories for God’s glory. Our

London and Calgary Centres acquired new properties as their permanent places of worship. We praise

the Lord for His favour in providing the funds to purchase these multi-million dollar assets.

NEW AFFILIATE CHURCH

The Church of Jesus Christ the Blessed and the Glory of God International (CJCBGGI) from Yokohama,

Japan joined our Champion Life Network of Churches. We welcome our newly affiliated church led by

our sons, Bunny and Rose Belleza who have been walking with us for many years.

LEADERSHIP TEAM

We could not have accomplished these things without our dedicated pastors and leaders. I am grateful

to our L5, Board members, pastors, staff, and volunteers for their diligence in serving throughout the

year.

SILVER ANNIVERSARY

This year 2017, we are celebrating 25 years of God’s faithfulness to the church of CLC. May we continue

to remain faithful and committed followers of Jesus Christ in every area of our lives as we advance His

Kingdom.

Yours in Christ,

Jerry and Elvie Berenguer

BRANCH PASTORS’ REPORT

We are thrilled to share with you the marvelous things God has done for CLC Calgary this 2016. Despite the many challenges that we faced last year from the pastoral change to eviction notice. But instead we saw Gods mighty hands moved on our behalf when He turned eviction to possession of the building. Providing CLC Calgary Family a wonderful fully furnished church building. July 2016, we celebrated the inauguration and dedication of the building and at the same time celebrated stampede which was attended by our local MP and other local leaders of the community. We will always be grateful to God for the leadership of Pastor Jerry and Pastor Elvie. They spent several months with us to put order in the house and laid a strong foundation of Sonship in the hearts of the people, which resulted in the transformation and changes in the lives of the people. They spent countless hours of training to build up the L5, the board members, including the finances and administration part of the church. They set up the Leadership Training school or LTS which produced and raised the next generation of leaders, who are now active in various ministries and networks. Ptr. Jerry and Ptra. Elvie also established the LP Fridays for the youth which is now continuously progressing with an average of 30 youth every Friday. Arlyn and I are investing our time in guiding and mentoring the youth leaders. Hour of Power and L5 mentoring session were set up every Tuesday night. We can see the move of God when people come together to pray. Last August, during the church family picnic, 14 people were water Baptized!! And we praise the Lord for that! Also, during this time Community Groups were given new names to reflect the strength and character of each Community Groups. Our monthly RIPE was also established – for all the workers, with an average attendance of 30 workers every month.

In September, we relaunched all ministries and networks during the Join a Ministry event to which both old and new ministries were reintroduced. Added to the list of networks were the Community Outreach and Family Life Networks. Team life, Firm Foundation and SOM1 classes are being conducted to welcome the new members and teach and train the existing members to become effective workers Another major event which we made towards the end of the year was our community outreach. We connected with some institutions such as nursing homes and shelters for the needy. Which was followed by a Christmas banquet “Serving in His Love” which was well attended. As the church was restructured and now more stable we are passionately functioning as a Family, Hospital, Equipping Centre, and an Army. And the Lord continues to add people to our numbers. So all I can say is “Look what the Lord has done”!

The GMS ministry exist to provide the CLC members, attenders and guests a positive experience during the weekly celebrations and the seasonal events being held at the Centre. It is our goal to create a warm and caring atmosphere that is being displayed by the volunteers as we represent not only the church, but Jesus himself. We facilitate with the database entries for attendance, personal information, bookings of personal life events and other resources that will be of help as needed by the members, attenders and guests. We are also responsible for welcoming the guests for the meet and greet together with the leadership of the church. All necessary information about what CLC may offer them is discussed and preparation of snacks is also taken care of by the volunteers. Rhea Darines was appointed as the head coordinator of the GIC and Ilaine Aquino for the GRC. There were additional nine people who volunteered to be part of the ministry when the J.A.M. was held in October bringing the total volunteers to 16 members. We believe that as we continue to uphold the vision of CLC, and be the church in Acts 2: 42-47, God will add to His church more people for the year 2017. We would like to first thank God for choosing us to carry out this noble task of service to the church then to all the volunteers who week after week have displayed their love for God by loving the people through serving them tirelessly. Thank you Lord for a very fruitful year as all the glory belongs to you!

USHERING MINISTRY

We thank God Jesus for the privilege of serving Him in the Ushering Ministry. In many ways the Ushers are the face of the Church, the first one that people see when they arrive and the last ones they see as they leave. It is important that an Usher be friendly, honest, and willing to serve. It is an honorable position in our church, requiring integrity, cordiality, and wisdom. The role of church ushers is to help first time guests, repeat visitors, and members experience the sacredness and joy of a worship service. As church ushers will also include the role of security, ushers to be watchful and vigilant in when there is something of concern or emergencies. The heart of an usher is the heart of a servant, does his or her work for his lord Jesus, An usher’s theme verse could very well be Psalm 84:10:

“I would rather be a door keeper in the house of God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.” We have one Head Usher: Bro. Jessie Agron All ushers have the opportunity to be Usher Captain, regular usher, door usher, usher for the Pastor. We started last year with 14 volunteer ushers and during the Join A Ministry last September 2016, 17 new volunteers signed up, bringing the list of 31 ushers. Thank you and have a blessed day!

PRAISE & WORSHIP MINISTRY

Praise the Lord for the year 2016 with all the challenges that made us stronger and victorious. Half of the team left the church but God did not allow us to waver instead He caused us to rise and flourish. He has strengthened what remained. Members stepped up to the plate and grew in their commitment and passion to serve in the ministry. God keeps adding people to the team, people who loves to serve God. We promote growth in building relationship, spiritual maturity, and musical abilities, therefore we require every members to maintain active involvement in Life Groups and church events, seminars, and sending some of them to Break Forth Conference once a year. We continue to provide trainings for the band, singers, and technical arts to be competent in what we do and strive for excellence.

• Band trainings are ongoing every Saturday to grow in their instrumental skills • Vocal Development Session was established quarterly to give all singers practical

applications, voicing lessons, tuning and pitching • Technical Arts continue to learn new technology upgrades

Last September, Paul Berenguer conducted the Essence of Praise and Worship to the team as well as hands-on training with the band and worship leaders. In the same month, the relaunching of all ministries and networks took place and we conducted orientation for those who signed up to join the ministry, and 5 people completed their probation period and formally added to the team. There are now 30 current members of the Praise and Worship Ministry.

CREATIVE ARTS MINISTRY

We serve God through our creative gifting and talents He has given us. We express God’s message of love, salvation, forgiveness, provision and many more through drama, dance, music and artistic designs. All throughout the year Creative Arts Ministry took part in every events in the church:

• The Drama team presented a short play about God’s forgiveness and acceptance during the Easter celebration that touched the hearts of the people.

• The Design team passionately serving in designing all the church big events such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Stampede and Inauguration Celebration, Hallelujah Night, Christmas banquet, and other seasonal occasions.

• The new members of Dancers started to do special presentations to show that we can express our worship to God through modern dance that are culturally relevant.

We praise God for all the members of the Ministry who continue to serve God by serving the church.

CHAMPION KIDZ MINISTRY

What do we do at Champion Kidz? The minute you drop off your kids at Champion Kidz they enter into their own celebration Sunday. We have singing (Praise and Worship), they recite the declaration of a Champion and Pledge to the bible. They even have their own offering time after our open session. Everyone is dismissed to their own classes. Last April started out with 9 kids. The highest number of attendees we have recorded since that time was 32 kids. Currently we are averaging to around 25 kids which ranges from pre-school age to Grade 6. Our main goal last 2016 was to establish order in the way we operate within our network. I am happy to report that we have established that. We have doubled the number of volunteer/workers from 10 to 20. All these volunteers went through Children’s Ministry training with Rachel Berenguer and Plan to protect with me. Right now all these volunteers are spread out Sunday after Sunday from working in the nursery to teaching the school age kids. The major events that our ministry did last year were Hallelujah night where we had the story book characters as a theme. It was a well-attended event. Second major undertaking we did was last December during the Christmas Season. In an effort to have the parents get engaged with Champions Kidz, we asked some parents of our Champion Kidz to read Christmas related story books to our kids. It was a well-received event both by our kids and the parents. As always, it is a very humbling experience to serve in this capacity. Thank you everyone for your trust in us in helping you - the parents, to raise up Champion Kidz for life!

MEDIA MINISTRY

There is never a dull moment in the Media Ministry! We continue to work many hours behind the scenes to make it possible to share the message of the church to the congregation and the community through videos, photography, Social Media, Web pages and other forms of communication. The purpose of the ministry is to spread the gospel of our Lord Jesus through the use of media and to serve the church by providing comprehensive media services for all church activities. The year 2016 was another fruitful year for the Media team, exerting all possible efforts to make a strong presence in the church and community. The Social Media Team established a strong social media presence with successful promotions for various events. The use of social media has been recognized as the main tool for promoting events or other church activities. The videography and photography team worked hard to capture the moments of numerous events in still images and/or video formats and made them available to everyone in our Social Media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. During the Christmas Season, we organized and held the Christmas Family photoshoot which resulted in many families supporting the ministry financially. We were able to raise money to fund for the needs of the ministry. The Print Production Team was instrumental in many major church events. They were responsible for designing flyers, posters, and other promotional materials. The Multi Media Production Team achieved its goal to create weekly video announcements as well as other promotional videos for events and activities. Our website was redesigned which features a simplistic design yet stunning which was aimed to engage more visitors. It is regularly managed and maintained to assist people to know what ministries and activities are available for them. We executed the successful migration of our email system from ShareFaith to G Suite for Nonprofits. G Suite is a Google product offering which enables our teams to collaborate from anywhere, in real time.

MEN’S NETWORK

In Sept 2016, The Men’s Network was launched and I just want to thank our Lead Ptr. Jerry Berenguer for giving me the trust and confidence to lead this awesome Men’s Network. Our purpose: To step up, shape up, build camaraderie and be the men we are called to be “Awesome Men of God”. We need to build our muscles and spiritual muscles to meet the challenges of time by engaging, meeting together, and bonding together like brothers. Our Vision: To unite, to act as one, to give glory to God and be a role model to our children. Our Network’s promises during the launching last September is to extend our hand to anyone who needs some help on moving and some household repairs which we are currently and happily doing. The first event was our Father's Day celebration last June with our theme “Coach Dad”, apart from our typical special presentation we added some sports games that made the Father’s day celebration more fun. Secondly, we did a couple of wellness sessions like P90X sessions and Martial Arts basic tutorials. Thirdly, our table tennis tournament. We had 24 who signed up and participated in this event and considered as a very successful event. For 2017, we started this year with our first Sportacular that commenced last January 20 and there were about 44 who came and enjoyed our night of sports fun. And lastly, our Men’s lunch which we just had it last January 21.

WOMEN’S NETWORK

The women’s network is a group of women committed to carrying the heartbeat of Jesus in all areas of life. It is a network that desires to display the love of Christ through cultivating unity and a sense of belonging through Godly friendships. The women’s network desires that each woman would discover their God-given identity and purpose as a daughter of the King and continue to be cheered on towards maturity in all areas of their walk with God. It is also a gathering of women from all age ranges who are committed to growing together, encouraging one another, devoted to serve other women and most importantly pushing each other forward in their journey to be better daughters in Christ. For the year 2016, In May we celebrated the Mother’s day and gave tribute to all moms in the house and it was a successful event which moms felt the love and care not only with their family but also here at Champion Life Centre. One of our goals is to promote health while having fun so we created the Zumba for Life. It started in July until October which was attended by18 members and 17 nonmembers. We invited several certified instructors to lead this session. After the Zumba, we created another event to inspire ladies to look beautiful and be thankful for what God has given us. It was done last October and it was hosted by our awesome make-up artist Cristina Romero. We were blessed to have 30 members and 6 nonmembers attendees. Aside from these, the women are all active in the events of the church. They are happy serving the kingdom from kitchen, decorating and to ushering. The Women’s Network aim is to reach out to the ladies of our community to inspire them and encourage them in their journey. So for this year 2017, our goal is to increase women participation in serving the Lord. We will be creating more opportunities to reach out to women to encourage them to be involved and be part of our church family. Further, we will be having various activities that will cater to the different areas of a woman’s life.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH NETWORK

Community Outreach is a newly created network of CLC Calgary. Our goal is to connect to the community to provide services and programs that will cater to the diverse cultures of Calgary. This is also a way of making the communities aware of the existence of CLC and for them to be part of the family of Champions. It also aims to fulfill the mission that God gave us. That is to introduce, include, instruct, involve and invest in the lives of people for Christ. We lead the people to God by building relationships to the community through the outreach programs. We put our love into action which becomes our service to God. For a start, we have 2 events last year which made an impact to the community. First, we had the Stampede celebration and had the building inauguration at the same time. It was attended by servants of the community, our Member Parliament and some leaders of organizations as well. We were able to feed a great number of people for lunch. We had games and inflatable for kids. And we had the band playing country music and everyone had so much fun. The second event was last November. Just before Christmas, all CLC Community Groups went to different institutions to volunteer, give gifts and make them happy. These were the Care West, Sonshine Community and the Brenda’s House under the Children’s Cottage Society. Everyone was blessed and had fun. This was followed by our Christmas Banquet, Serving in His Love which was attended by some of their clients and staffs. During this time, we gave honor to the staffs that came for their dedication and love in serving their clients. As we continue to be known to the community for our service, we are blessed that some community organizations have opened their hands to us to give their support for this cause. It is indeed very fulfilling and blessed to be part of this network. Currently, we have amazing committee leads and members that are organizing and supporting this network. We thank God for their passion to reach out and serve the community. We also have the FCM-Filipino Canadian magazine, Pinoy Times newspaper and radio who supported CLC on our outreach programs for 2016. Our goal for 2017 is to reach out to more people in the community of Calgary. We believed that the community is one of the legs of the church that needs to be developed more in order to make a difference in the lives of everyone. We need to make an impact and empower their lives through the love of Christ. For this year, we will be having more activities that will involve multi-cultural families and be more engaged in the community. This is one way of giving back and sharing the blessings to the community.
