A one pager is a single-page response to your reading that connects the ideas in the book to your thoughts creatively. The purpose of the one-pager is so that your audience will understand the big ideas, themes, and connections within the book. Directions and what to include in your one-pager: Write the title of the book and author’s name somewhere on the page (this can be done creatively!). Include a border that reflects the unit of learning or theme. o This can include words, pictures, symbols, or quotes from the text. Create and answer TWO meaningful questions about the novel that show the plot of the story. o These should not be yes or no questions, but how or why questions. o Answers should cite text evidence according to the RACE strategy (Restate, Answer, Cite, Explain). Draw or create THREE images that represent themes, characters, conflict, or the setting of the book. o These should be strongly connected to the book and should stand out. Include 5-8 significant events that occurred during the story on a timeline. o Include a sent. describing the event and the page number. o Make sure your events are in order. Write an acrostic poem about a part of the novel. Each letter represents a sentence about the character or his/her part in the story. Write THREE personal statements or connections about what you’ve read (these are not simple opinions). o EX: “I could relate to the main character feeling lost in the book because it reminded me of when I got to high school and didn’t know anyone. Find THREE examples of figurative language (simile, metaphor, hyperbole, alliteration, etc.) and label them along with the page number. Include a 5-8 sent. REVIEW of the book. Be colorful and neat. o Your entire page should be filled with these elements. If you find you have extra room, repeat any of the above steps/ elements. No space should be blank. Nothing should be left in pencil. Your name and class period should be on the BACK of the one-pager.
